This seems like the first viable game in a long long time to allow Hollowworld to break away from Minecraft?

I would hate the cartoony look of it, but there is definitely potential there if we ever did migrate to another medium.

I’ve been following since it’s announcement and following the updates they put out about the games features, and I am beyond excited for it. If things work the way they say they will, the potential for modding and creation of weird creatures is endless, with the capability of ease of modded servers to other people without the fussy mess that is minecraft on a larger server. The style they went for is so nice and clean to the eyes for quick understanding of what's what.

Also the ability to custom make things while having a wide variety of things already there is just mwah. Delicious. The creature amount and the ability to make them with a built in system is just wonderful.

Hytale just blew Minecraft so far out of the water it'll probably never come back down. . . Just look at the customization available to players in Hytale . . .

Seems like a lot of work to transfer over, but the potential is there.
I might check it out on my own sometime, but for now We'll have to wait and see how it goes, Not a huge fan of certain things as well, mainly the player char faces, But I get the feeling there might be alot more freedom to do things.

I'm getting a sort of second life vibe in terms of what sort of things we can see from this.

Also, Custom models would be amazing for the growing bestiary.

There would be a need for skinners. Like dedicated skinners.

i am of the big doubt that there will be a shift to a new platform any time soon

I think if we shifted, we'd lose more people who dont like change. If we had a bigger player base, we could afford to lose a few.

But IF we ever moved, it wouldn't be immediately after Hytale's release. There would have to be time for people to understand the mods, map building, lore building, etc. It becomes, then, largely a question of how much steam staff have left in them to keep doing this job.

But it would lend itself beautifully to new rp servers that will crop up.

If:

It has large custom map capabilities,

Custom models and textures for creatures and items, or potentially blocks, whether or not it's a client-side 'texture pack' that reveals the servers custom blocks, or if it's all serverside, and all custom models/textures need no extra downloads or effort on the players part,

And we can fully customize character 'skins' and have our own custom body props,

And there will be the extent of plugin support (if servers don't already get systems like permissions/whitelist already),

And if there will be the ability to have several world maps within a single server (Sorrows/Main world),

And there is some sort of creative abilities (creative/WE/ some sort of 'schematica' type system),

Then it would be a mistake not to move on. You'd have the chance to turn your custom text adventures into visualized game! It would be very cool, and I am sure we'll have some experimental server phase. We've done it before (Modded servers, 'total freeform RP' subservers).

Run them in parallel, like we used to do with the 2+ RP servers in different settings.

It just goes back to the player base we have being too small. We can't sustain the players we have on one platform, so splitting them between two locations is going to be difficult.

That'd fall onto the media team or whoever is responsible for getting the name out there. If Hytale proves to have a solid playerbase it might be beneficial to start a Hytale server to net a new playerbase. Then we're running two distinct communities under the one banner, with existing HW players integrating the newcomers like we do with whitelistees to prevent an Eternal September.

I'd like to address the points about losing players due to change and playerbase being too small.

When I first joined hollowworld, one page of approved whitelist applications covered 2-3 days max, but nowadays it looks like one page covers an entire month. What this tells us is that the influx of players is very small, and this can be due to one or both of these two reasons; the server isn't being advertised as much and the interest in Minecraft has been on a decline for years.

A shift into a different game could be exactly what the brand needs in order to start bringing in a lot of new players like it used to, if the game even works for what Hollowworld was intended for and if there's a big enough interest in the game as a whole.

I don't see myself returning to Minecraft ever again because whenever I do give it a try once every other year or so, I get bored in an hour. A new game however? I'm sure I'd get more out of it than that, and perhaps might even end up playing it as much as I used to play Minecraft. There was a time where I'd refresh these very forums every other hour and even to this day for some reason I check the forums once a year hoping something would bring me back.

i suggest the yearly 'why hollowworld is expiring' thread.

I wasn't asking why or if it is expiring, nor was I bringing it up as if nobody else has ever considered that it's expiring.

I highlighted that it's expiring to make the point that a new game can revive it. But, ofcourse, you knew that already and willingly ignored my point to be snarky about my post.
