Gogetamc's Application [Approved - Niko]

Gogetamc

Villager
1. What is your Minecraft username?
(New players can only use one account to begin with, so please don't list any alt accounts. You can apply for an alt account after being here for one month.)
Gogetamc

2. How old are you?
(Please note that the minimum age to take part on the server is 14. Due to the era of the role play there are some more mature themes which may not be suitable for anyone younger. We can't be held responsible should you choose to lie about your age.)
18.

3. What country are you from?
(HollowWorld is an English speaking server. People from around the world are more than welcome to join us and take part provided that they do their best to use a good standard of written English both in game and on the forums.)
USA.

4. Have you read the King's Law, Code of Conducts, Official Lore, and the Player Guides yet?
(There, you can find information about how our server is run, as well as the playable races.)
Yes.

5. In your own words, how would you define metagaming and powergaming?
(It is important to understand what these terms are and why they are bannable offenses in any roleplaying community.)
Meta-gaming: Using outside knowledge, knowledge that your character could not realistically hold in their current status within the scenario/world itself, and/or giving it to your player in order to affect the outcome or development of role-play.
Power-gaming: Conducting in role-play actions or constructing in role-play scenarios that forces a conclusion or development in role-play that restricts either another person's out of character freedom to determine reasonably how the situations would affect their player or how their player would react in those situations.

6. Do we allow X-Raying mods or X-Ray texture packs on the server?
(This question goes for any method that can be used to unfairly find and mine ores.)
No.

7. Name one of our current Mentors.
(Mentors are designed to help you get used to the server; you can see a list of our current Mentors and what they can do for you under 'Code of Conduct!' [x].)
Niko (SirNicholas14)

8. Tell us about yourself!
(Introduce yourself! Tell us some of your hobbies, what kind of music you like, other games you play, maybe any pets you have. We're not asking for anything too personal, but we would like to get to know you a bit better to help the application and transition. This question needs to be a minimum of five sentences and not focused on Minecraft.) My name is Evan and I'm a freshman in college. I study engineering and currently have two cats at home. I tend to enjoy relaxing with said cats, watching youtube, listening to brass music, wasting time over breaks, and I play a lot of pokemon. (Too much pokemon).

9. Do you have any examples of your work?
(This question is optional! Are you an artist? A builder? A writer? If you want to show off some of your work, we'd love to see it! You can upload a file at the bottom of the page to attach some pictures if you like! If you don't have anything you want to show, that is perfectly fine. Don't worry.) I don't have much examples of my work but a few years ago I have had some work as being an admin on some servers. It would be a lot to explain/recollect so ask me about it if you'd like.

10. Did anyone refer you? If not, how did you find our server?
(This question is also optional. If you were referred by someone, that person has a chance to get a referral reward.)
I looked up on planet minecraft 'medieval roleplay'.

About Your Character!
This section is about the character you intend to use once you join the server. We ask that new players follow these guidelines during this portion of the application:
  • Characters begin with basic skills and gear. No advanced armor or weaponry. Skills and abilities are appropriate to a novice level. Skills should be learned through roleplay, not through backstory.
  • Characters fit the lore. If you choose to play as a Moor Elf, for example, we expect appearance and details to be fitting with base lore.
  • Characters cannot use magic in any way. The test itself should not mention magic either. HollowWorld uses a restricted magic system and it is only accessible to those who find and learn from a teacher in-game.
  • Tests should not be violent. No murder, killing, death, torture. In the past, 8 out of 10 applications featured characters fighting off bandits or slaying passersby. We don't want to see how well you can script a fight scene. We want to see how well you can tell a story, how well you can roleplay.
  • Be creative and be original. Do not use tests/characters whose home villages were burned, parents murdered, and then set off to be an orphan assassin. It has been done before. Please don't do it again.
  • Written portion of the test is required to be a 400 word minimum. If the test doesn't meet the minimum, Staff may ask you to extend the test before the application is considered.
You can remove the guidelines above when you're copy and pasting the application. The instructions above are for you to read and can be removed when applying.

Character Name:
(Be mindful of the Medieval Fantasy theme when choosing your name.)
Gladion
Character Age:
(Simple enough!)
30
Character Race:
(Have a look through our Playable Races!)
Silver Elf
Appearance:
(We just want to make sure things like hair color, eye color, skin color, and clothing is all fitting for the setting/lore we have.)
Gladion is a young male slowly growing to his max height of 6'5", but currently he's at a solid 6'. He has very pale skin and a matching set of deep silver hair and eyes. Gladion's skin is extremely soft and clear of any blemishes, and pale to the point of almost being ghostly. Generally he wears a muted set of purple robes hiding his rather adventurous, yet empty and lacking, set of leather gear. Like most elves, he is very tall and lanky, but, in contradiction to most silver elves, he's built about double the muscle that a elf at his age would have. This muscle seems to be intentionally hidden by his robes as well.
(Optional) Picture of the Skin:
(Attach a picture here if you have one. If you don't have an image, that's fine. Just make sure you describe it well in the appearance section.)

Written Test!
(This is where you tell us a story of your choosing! Be creative. It should be 400 words minimum and use the character you've created above. This is what we use to judge your ability as a roleplayer. Show us how much you've learned by reading our guides and lore. Include anything you think will impress us!)

In a settlement close to a larger silver elf city, a mother gave birth to two young elf boys. The first to experience the freedom was young Gladion, whom was born with deep silver hair and eyes, and paler skin. As soon as the parents laid eyes upon him, they loved him. Second was his brother, Taris, born with light brown hair, light blue eyes, and slightly pale skin, he too was loved upon sight. These young brothers were born to a working class family of librarians. They owned a house in a settlement close to the city. Yet, they worked in a library owned by nobles that was located in the city.
These two young elves were brought up to become librarians, neither liked that. Such a boring job could never please the appetite of a young boy, especially Gladion. Since the beginning their father, who was one of the most well respected librarians to work in the city, loved them equally and intended to bring them up to be successors as keepers of the library. Their father was known to manage one of the most prestigious libraries and due to the upkeep he provided, the standard held true and most books of higher level knowledge found their home there. Their mother favored Gladion for his more noble features, and soon a rivalry sparked between the boys as they both wanted to be better than the other. While neither of them liked the idea of being librarians, they both wanted to show off to their parents.
This often led to them reading more and working harder, both were efficient learners and readers but they were scolded every time they read outside of what their father wanted to teach them. Often their father told them that they need to stay in the path he wanted them to take and that any break away was dangerous. The boys were reluctant, but understood that and for a while followed their fathers warning. This was short lived.
Gladion proved to be superior to his brother and finished tasks and learned much quicker, not to mention his mother often payed more attention to his development from a young age. This gave Gladion free time and he often got into much trouble by overexerting himself in more physical task, playing outside, and playing in the woods more. In the library he lead 'a trail of destruction', stacks of books where moved around and formed into forts and random caught animals would pop up occasionally. Gladion developed a caring nature for things as he was raised and often he found wounded wood fauna he would hide and nurse back to health. This continued due to his father not letting him self educate when the interest appeared. Though, the interest never died for Gladion, he sometimes stole books of interest and read deep in the woods for hours at a time. Whenever this occurred, his brother always had to come looking for him and after the track back, Taris was bruised and scratched from the woods, but Gladion was always perfectly supple and clear. As Gladion got older he grew an adventurous nature and spark of life compared to his tame and well 'groomed' brother.
Later, and closer to being young men, they learned of the reason for their father's discontent in their exploration of any knowledge outside of becoming librarians. He considered their place as a family of librarians honorable and of service to the nobles and society of silver elves, and like a sworn duty, he didn't want his children to stray from that. Tarvis grew to play into that role and groomed himself to the best librarian he could be. Gladion couldn't be less unhappy. He often argued that, with the very knowledge surrounding them, they could rise in the ranks and become a higher class family. This ambition sparked from the years of exploration and the continuous watch of noblemen coming to their library to read the books he was banned from even opening. This discontent continued for years till Gladion became of the age of 30 and decided he was going to pursue a higher knowledge and become a nobleman.

(Disclaimer: The fact of being brought up in a library wont be used for the character to obtain and have random bits of knowledge in rp to metagame. Also the usual amount of physical strength in Gladion is due to his behavior as a kid and I'm aware that elves tend to not grow muscle as fast. Hence, his muscle mass is compared to the average of elves at his age in appearance.)
Current Setting of the Server:

For days, it rained. The coasts were battered by bolstered waves, and the fields turned to lakes that could swallow a caravan. For some, it was an omen.

The evil promises came true. As the storms slipped back out to sea and the sun's auburn hues could again be seen rising over the horizon, something dark crept out from the cavern depths. A dangerous, and mysterious plague gripped Altera by ferocious surprise. At first, it was studied in quite isolation by academics, but soon it became clear that this was no mere curse of nature. Plague beasts, monstrous mutated abominations, stormed research facilities, escalating the situation into a full scale struggle. Across the lands, people became displaced from their homes as monster and plague altered their way of life.

The lands of Altera are poised in dire straits, but there is hope. The sun still shines, and opportunities for glory grow like tentative vines. All over, people are fighting, innovating and living in spite of the darkness below. Will you join them?
