1. What is your Minecraft username?
procastersleep

2. How old are you?
I am 15, turning 16 this year!

3. What country are you from?
Australia.

4. Have you read the King's Law, Code of Conducts, Official Lore, and the Player Guides yet?
Yup!

5. In your own words, how would you define metagaming and powergaming?
Metagaming is when a players uses information they learned OOC , in character, usually to the characters advantage. This is bad roleplaying due to the fact that the character would have had no way of obtaining this information and it is unrealistic and at times, unfair, to use it. Powergaming is when someone RPs in a way that controls or limits what the other player can do. For example, if I went, "My character swings her sword and it carves deep into your bicep" I have not given the other player a chance to avoid this action or change it and I am controlling the roleplaying experience of another player, which is not enjoyable.

6. Do we allow X-Raying mods or X-Ray texture packs on the server?
Nope.

7. Name one of our current Mentors.
Ayda and Vincentius are two.

8. Tell us about yourself!
Ok, I usually struggle with these, because I hate writing about myself, but here goes! I love art, any art, (sculpture, painting, printing) but most recently I got a laptop that allows me to do digital art and ooh boy do I love digital art (clipping masks, I cannot physically express my gratitude for clipping masks). Other than art, I love music, listening and playing and I play the guitar and the violin. I enjoy playing other video games, mainly RPGs such as Skyrim and Dragon Age: Inquisition. When I finish highschool, I'm hoping to do a degree in either animation or marine biology (save our oceans!!) :) Another quick note (I didn't really know where else to put this, sorry) is it compulsory to play with the texture pack? The reason I'm asking this is because I can't install texture packs (long story short, I'm using a school provided laptop, admin blocked Run and access to %appdata% so I can't actually install it oof) and I don't want that to ruin my experience! Thanks!

9. Do you have any examples of your work?
I'll try upload a file of one of my drawings, but I seem to have a curse wherein the majority of images I upload online fail to load, so fingers crossed...

10. Did anyone refer you? If not, how did you find our server?
I didn't get a referral, but I found this server when I was researching minecraft fantasy roleplay servers!

About Your Character!

Character Name:
Yvala Thansmith

Character Age:
19, soon to be 20

Character Race:
Halfling

Appearance:
Yvala has a tan complexion and blue-grey eyes. Her hair slightly longer than shoulder length and is a light brownish colour that doesn't seem to have a name (see the pic of skin). She is wearing dark brown leathers that cover her from the neck down, almost as if she is hiding something... ;)

(Optional) Picture of the Skin:

Written Test!
Note: I know this sort of deviates from the racial norm for halflings, if its too much, just let me know, I have a few other characters up my sleeve :)

In the early hours of the morning, the tavern is quiet, all but empty, save a few lonely drinkers, too deep in their cups to notice their absent friends. Yvala is exhausted after a long and tiring night shift, her mind focused only on the thought of her soft, warm bed, as she wipes down the bar. A scraggly old man stumbles his way up to her, and places his glass down, hands shaking slightly.
"I'll 'ave 'nother one, pl's" He slurs his words, his eyes barely open. Another drink will surely send him to sleep, but it is not Yvala's job to care. As long as he has the coin, she has the drinks. She nods and fills his glass with beer, sliding it back towards him and turning to continue her cleaning. The man is quiet for a moment, while he takes a long swig of his drink.
"Wha's th' mark round yer neck?" The old man raises his arm, pointing at where Yvala's scarf has slipped down, revealing a black band around her neck, somewhat resembling a tattoo.
"Excuse me?" Yvala responded politely, clenching her cloth in her hand.
"Th' black ban" The old man gestures again.
Yvala sat outside the light of the campfire. Her neck felt like it was burning, where the new blackband was. No one had spoken or looked at her since, only one person had dropped some bread at her feet. She had four weeks of this, four weeks to reflect on her mistakes.
"Oh, this? Ah, just a tattoo" Yvala smiles tersely at the man, rubbing the back of her neck, where the mark was."Drunken mistake, you know the one"
It had been two week since Yvala had spoken to her family, to anyone. She felt ashamed to admit it, but she had tried. She had ran up to them, pleading forgiveness, asking for them to just please, say something, anything! But she hadn't even gotten the privilege of being acknowledged. They just turned and walked away.
"Ah, got'n a few o' those 'n' m' time" The old man gave her a slight smile. "S'there any meanin' behind it?"
Four weeks. One month of loneliness and shame. And for what? A simple mistake did not warrant a punishment this severe in Yvala's eyes. She hadn't intended to get the caravan lost without food or water. She never wanted to hurt anyone. A stern talking too would have served as perfect punishment, maybe a task to make up for the damage of her action. But social isolation? That was taking it too far.
"If there was, I was too far gone to remember it" Yvala gave an unconvincing chuckle and turned back to the other side of the bar, silent and lost in thought. The old man nodded and continued his beer. Yvala stood still, gripping the bar with both hands, her knuckles white, eyes staring off into the distance.
The band had faded weeks ago, but little had change. Yvala was still treated as an outcast by the majority of the caravan. She had taken to sneaking of into the nearest town or city and spending the night in a bar or tavern, unrecognisable and surrounded by strangers, who treated her like any other halfling. One particularly rowdy night, after a heated argument with the cilpen about suitable punishments for crime, Yvala was deep in her cups. She spied a woman covered head to toe in intricate ink markings. This sparked an idea in Yvala's foggy mind. The type of idea that only alcohol can foster...
Yvala stumbled her way back into camp, struggling to make her way through the darkness in the early hours of the morning. Eventually, after much searching, she abandoned the quest to find her caravan and instead collapsed on the nearest bench, dead to the world until morning.
When Yvala awoke, she was greeted by a circle of faces starting down at her, wearing expressions of shock, horror and disgust. The events of the previous night were yet to return to her memory. Yvala moved to sit up and let out a hiss. Her neck felt like it was burning, the skin itching and aching all at once. The pain cleared the clouds from her mind and brought back memories of last night... the tattooed lady.... TATTOO! Yvala cursed her drunken stupidity. She had gotten a black band tattooed around her neck! Why in Altera had she thought that was a sound idea? To prove what point? Clearly that was why the entirety of the caravan was staring at her, her neck was on full display. Oh by gods, what was she going to do now?
Months had passed. Her entire family was ashamed of her action, that she would willingly punish herself with such a dishonor. Yvala had known that this day was coming. There was nothing for her in the caravan anymore, just stared of disgust and exclusion. It was time for her to start anew, make her own path in the world that was Altera.

A loud clatter shocked Yvala back to the present. The old man had finished his drink and promptly passed out, falling to the ground. Yvala sighed and made her way around to him, pulling him up onto a nearby chair and leaving him in his slumber.

Current Setting of the Server:

The lands of Altera have long been laced with upheaval, supernatural turmoil that would threaten to shatter the realm or tear it asunder. Long, have the peoples of Altera withstood these tribulations, overcoming and persevering through the generations. Only too recently, the realm tangled with the Behemoth Qlippoth, awakened by monsoon rains and with which came the Ashen Blight plague and eldritch abominations. Though the days were dark and long, the realm did survive, through its tenacity and reverence. The memories of the trials behind them still fresh, the realm sits in a state of unease and angst . . . with eyes on the horizon.

In the skies above, the heavens fall and burn across the auburn colors of the setting sun, streaks of color in the gathering dark. The Realm of Alters awaits . . .

Hello atlasae and thank you for applying to Hollowworld!

One question though --
Do you mind clarifying what the 'blackband' is? From my reading of your written test, it wasn't clear. Is it meant to be a tattoo or some divine curse? It suggests the latter but I just want to be sure.

oh sorry it was unclear, the blackband is in the lore for halflings as a punishment for endangering the caravan. basically, Yvala put the caravan in danger, got the blackband, it was meant to fade after four weeks but it didn't, for unknown reasons (i know why, but Yvala doesn't). because halflings are very superstitious, they took it as sign that she was cursed. She isn't but she thinks she might be. The whole incident happened when Yvala was 17, so around two-three years ago. since then she has just tried to live her life as normal as possible, but she really wants to know why it hasn't faded yet.

basically, in case you needed to know, the guy who's pride she injured, Manren, (she severely embarrassed him in the process of endangering everyone's life, oops) held a massive grudge. When the cilpen was mixing the blackband mixture up, he put something in it that meant it permanently stained Yvala.

OHHHH!
Okay, THAT makes a lot of sense.

However, I will have to run it through the lore-team and see what they think. (It being the blackband persisting for more than normal).

Once again thank you for applying to Hollowworld! I will get back to you on that as soon as I can.

Hey atlasae!

So we have had a discussion and come to the agreement that blackband should only last about 4 weeks and any changes to the mixture would deviate from lore little bit much. Not to say it isn't possible though given in character research -- but it shouldn't happen in backstory. Note - The blackband can always be reapplied, but one application shouldn't persist for more than a month.

If you could edit your test to reflect that, then that'd be awesome. Let me know when you want me to look at it again by replying to the thread. : )

Just before I write another test, I'd like to check if the concept is ok, if thats ok!
Basically, I'm thinking instead of the blackband being permanent, Yvala feels that the punishment of social isolation for a month is too extreme for what she did. After the blackband fades, people still treat her differently and this kinda pisses her off. She ends up arguing with the cilpen about the punishment, is shut down and storms off into town. (She feels all the superstitions are stupid, which is quite hypocritical of her tbh, because she still follows quite a few of them) There, she gets a tad tipsy and makes a pretty dumb decision. She gets the blackband tattooed on her, permanently. Her drunken thought process is as follows - they treat differently, even though the mark is gone, might as well put it back, not like it'll make any difference (there was a bit of an "I'll show you" attitude as well). Well, when returning back to the camp, immediate regret. People are treating her differently, worse now. She decides maybe its time to start her own life, and the two years later shes working in some backwater tavern, wishing she could do something meaningful with her life and covering up her tattoo, because she feels slightly ashamed of it.
If thats all good, I'll write another test for Yvala, if not, I'll probably try another character concept! Thanks!

Concept looks good!

Do note that the texture and color of the blackband maybe different to that of a normal tattoo BUT, true, that may not make any difference to those in her camp.

Yeah, her camp more just thought the symbolism of getting that tattooed was a Bad Idea (as drunk tattoos usually are :) ). Also, just letting you know, I certainly haven't forgotten about this, I just have a lot of school work right now (ew) so I will post the new test on the weekend. Just in case it appeared I was inactive!
