Banlai

Physiology:
Humanoid in shape and appearance, they often resemble a human woman from afar. Taller than the average man, they scale at a usual six foot eight with some even reaching seven feet in height. Their chitinous skin range from a soft grey to near putrid grey-brown shades. This chitin also allows for a natural protection from predators. Their eyes are often times confused as having been void of irises, though what is seen as sclera is their iris, and always a white or yellow shade. Their pupils are often small, though can expand and make it seem as though their iris is black or the entire eye is black in times of great stress. Often times they appear emaciated compared to the average human being, though in reality, their average weights range from 80-100 pounds, allowing them to be lightweight. This aids then in being able to carry out silent footsteps and rarely leaving footprints, giving the impression of being lighter than air. When they do leave footsteps, it's hard to identify as to what it is, given the shape resembles that of a single hole. They contain sharp teeth, and no actual nose, rather flat faced. Many times ferns and vines will grow on their chitin, making it seem like they contain hair, when in reality, they do not. They are more closely related to insects than any mammalian species.

Sexual Dimorphism:
See Kinslai for Male counterpart. Rarely do mutations occur where a Banlai will be born male. These male Banlai are far more aggressive and will always result in being a sterile Banlai. Often times these are rejected by the mother by the fourth year of age, making them feral.

Diet:
???

Behavior:
More curious and docile than how their appearance leads them to be, they spend their days wandering. Often times they find themselves in isolated homes or villages, exploring the trinkets of residents. They spend most of their times in the forests and other dense areas, avoiding the light of day. If a Banlai is fearful or hunting, they'll release an ear piercing scream paralyzing their prey for the duration of such if not a few seconds more. A Banlai will not move while she screams, making her vulnerable as well. A Banlai voice is also said to be rather melodic when communicating with other Banlai or when attempting communication with other humanoids. Their voices are often described as single musical tones and pitches, though many travelers refer to it as an eerie sound, as their voices may stop abruptly with each note, similar to a record played backwards. They are also described to be protective or motherly towards humanoid races, finding them to resemble their own young. This leads them to be cautious of beast races, though, as they confuse them with other predators on occasion. Often times, one or two Banlai may live around the outskirts of a forested village, curious of it’s inhabitants, but they never favor one villager over another. This also may cause a Banlai to kidnap children or halflings, as they often confuse them with their own. Banlai are also known to mourn the loss of folk from villages they spend years nearby, often feeling the pain of a mother losing their child. It’s common for a mourning Banlai to scream or cry during the funeral of the fallen. This has caused Banlai to be a sign of death.

Yields:
When a Banlai perishes, they do not leave behind any yields worth taking. They may perhaps have a few ornaments of villages they had taken in the past, but nothing of worth. If one were to eat the meat of a Banlai, they would find themselves in high risk of dementia, due to it’s similarity to human meat and it’s chemical decomposition.

Kinslai

Physiology:
Note: While I might describe the Kinslai as shadowy or dark in the below lore, It is not actually misty, shadowy, or have any sort of magical trait, It is not a spirit or undead, it appears that way due to the colour of its skin, nothing more to it.

The Kinslai is tall and lanky, reaching around six and a half feet on average, its body mass is quite thin making it easier for the Kinslai to hide during its hunts; Often hiding among trees and other plantlife when it desires not to be seen. Unlike the Banlai the Kinslai's eye colour doesn't change in times of stress or at all, its colour remains a mixture of colours which could be described as the colour of a harvest moon with many shades of reds and oranges. Its light weight allows it to move rather quietly and also quite quickly; Making it a rather talented hunter. The Kinslai may appear to be a humanoid in shape, but upon approaching closer one would realize it isn't even near human, as like its Banlai counterpart, it is more closely related to insects. However, the Kinslai's body grows much more rougher and tougher then the Banlai due to its role as a protecter of the Banlai, making the Kinslai much more aggresive and violent as a result of such, its body has evolved to also fit this role, It has a long set of fingernails, that could be seen as similar to a set of claws and a set of sharp teeth. Its face lacks many details, making it appear almost flat and without shape, lacking a nose or cheekbones; Relaying on its strong skin to help defend its body. Its also not uncommon for plant life to start to grow on its body, such as vines and moss.

Sexual Dimorphism:
For female counterpart see Banlai. Rarely would we see a mutation of a Kinslai being female. Often times these female Kinslai are hyper-aggressive and feral. Their behaviors under developed as they were likely to have been abandoned by their parents at the age of four years.

Diet:
???

Behavior:
The behavior of the Kinslai can be defined as aggressive and protective of its territory and family, especially of its banlai mates. The Kinslai doesn’t often wander like its female counterpart, instead, it's more likely to remain within what it considers its territory; Kinslai prefer to hide within caves and caverns and over places that remain mostly dark during the day; However, during the night it is often spotted wandering through heavy forests and rarely even on the sides of roads. Perhaps it has a light curiosity to it that is overshadowed by its aggressive nature. The Kinslai could be described as an paranoid being, and will often attack rather than flee, and when it starts to fight, it doesn’t stop until its prey or itself has fallen. It doesn’t often wander near towns or villages like the Banlai, but if it heard the cry of its mate it would appear without a second thought, and often brings a slaughter along with it; The Kinslai is often a guardian of a Banlai and its behavior fitting that of a mate that would do whatever it took to protect, with no clear moral compass within it. However, the weakness of a Kinslai is its attraction to goods, it prefers shiny objects made of metal such as jeweled candle holders or even fine silverware, the Kisnali will often bring it home and hoard it within its den. When a Kinslai speaks it is often heard as an ethereal sound, though travelers often confuse it for harsh winds through the mountain passes. Their voice is echo-like with a distinct lack of musical tone the Banlai have.

Yields:
Kinslai themselves do not yield anything overly notable, however, if one were to track to its den they might stumble upon treasures hoarded by the Kinslai.

Rumor tells tale that sightings of these creatures have been sparse lately. It is unknown how or why, but it is known to those who have actually witnessed them that they have not seen many of them even before.

(Out of interest of freshening beast lore- these creatures may be endangered now)

Edit: Now extinct in its exact form.
