[Book] An Old Red Book

Bowduim

Lord of Altera
-=OOC=-
This will be updated probably bi-weekly depending on the amount of time I have to add pages. This will both serve as an IC book people can read, and as a small guide to new players on how weapons and combat in general worked back in ye olde days. Don't take it as the holy bible of CRP though, as even I can make mistakes!

You find a copy of an old red book, its title obscured by the dust it had collected. As you run your hand across the cover, removing the dust, you feel the engraved markings, and title reveals itself to you... to some this information would be useless, maybe it would be to you as well- yet you're compelled to open it, and start reading.

You turn the page of the book, the old parchment folding neatly, making way for the second page of the book, the Fleur de Lis insignia found on the last page and the cover, sits proudly in the corner, and your eyes drift off to the rest of the page....

You cough lightly as you turned the page even further, before you you find the next chapter, dust covering some of the words, yet obvious was the meticulously done drawing at the bottom of the page, you continue to read....

CH1. Knowledge
Yet, oft when engaged in combat one can't simply outreach an opponent and end
them as such. Instead to break a fight one must rely on their own skill at arms,
to be able to assess a situation and react to it as such. In this segment such shall
be discussed, yet not will we discuss specific weaponry, for a basic knowledge
of combat includes not topics advanced as such.

Combat often devolves into brutal melee, with both combatants well in reach of
each other. When such is the case, it is important to be able to assess what an
enemy shalt be doing. Pay attention first and foremost to their eyes, as a man
has to aim his strikes. Examining where an attack will be coming one can, with
significantly more ease block incoming attacks.
Secondly examine thine opponent's posture. A leg stuck out slightly along
with their weight and body being leant forward means they are preparing to
attack yet when they are standing straight, and their feet are nigh-aligned
are they on the defense. A time during which one could either perform their own
strike or reform their own position.

Yet more importantly is one's reaction to those situation which were spotted.
For knowledge is but one element. A book won't stop the strike of a blade
for such thine own is needed.

First and foremost parrying and executing stabbing blows. For a stab is the
easiest to perform and most detrimental to one's health when successfully executed.
Stabs could be aimed at any part of one's being, and are easily deflected.

CH1. Expertise
To deflect a stab one must align their weapon, specifically the part which
provides no danger to one's digits, horizontally in relation to the incoming
attack. Then it is within reach of thine weapon, which should always be the
width of four closed fists removed from thine body, jerk thine weapon into a
vertical position, as if swatting the enemy blade aside. This will have the desired
effect of thine armour or person not being damaged, and providing a window
of opportunity in which thee can strike back. To perform a quick counter stab
align thine blade with the desired part of thine opponent and thrust, yet do not
extend thine arm fully. Simply let the blade reach out, if such is not possible
it is more oft than not worth it to simply fall back, as exposing thine limbs,
extending them too much shalt result in that which is highly undesired.

Yet thrusting is but one attack, customary as well are slashes and overhead
attacks. To perform one as such align the edge of thine blade and let the weapon
fall down or bring it down in the desired direction. It is paramount that one
aligns the edge of one's weapon well,as to fully incorporate the weapon's power
in thine attacks. This skill comes with time spent practicing above any
instructions given though.

Equally as important is the defelection of slashing and overhead attacks.
This is done rather simply. As with thrusts, keep thine weapon four fists away
from thine body, and as the attack comes in meet the weapon of thien enemy
oppositely from the incoming attack. If they attack vertically, block
horizontally. The exception is downward sweeping attacks, which are blocked by
meeting the weapon diagonally, thrusting thine own down toward the ground.

Yet simply blocking incoming enemy strikes is rarely enough, especially against
those enemies inclined to use heavier weaponry. To prevent damage to thine wrists
one must meet incoming attacks with light force of their own, to parry and stagger
thine opponent rather than simply blocking their attacks.

To conclude, one should keep their eyes on their enemy, and judging from
their movement as well as their focus, act. Parry and prevent attacks
before they could deliver true harm. Keeping this principle in mind,
every enemy could be beat.

You reach the final page of the first chapter, it seems hastily written, as if to get it done quickly...

Finally, there is thine own physical condition. A trait equally as important
yet nowhere near as difficult to train and improve as the last topics were,
Important firstly, is thine own physical condition, specifically thine stamina,
as the ablity to last on the battlefield is one that shalt never fail you.
Secondly, strength and agility are also rather important, yet to a much lesser
degree, for the reason we use weaponry is to avoid the excessive need for us-selves
to be strong nor agile. It is much like all other professions, tools exist to make
it easier to perform.

To train one's physical condition, excersize is essential. There are no set
rules nor techniques for overall training in the grand scope of things. oof course
there are different excersizes one could do to improve their physical condition
but such is not to be discussed. Most important to realise is that one schould
excersize for a bare minimum of two hours per day. These excersizes should be
such things as running, preferably in armour, and physical strengthening.

Furthermore there is agility, a difficult, and slightly unimportant part
of combat, for oft it is overused and misused. It is highly important to keep
the eyes on the enemy at all times, as to prepare for strikes both of your own and
of thine opponent. The only practical implementation of agility during duels
would be dashes backwards and to the side, to put thineself in a more favourable
position to strike. Yet these require little skill.

Train well, long, and hard. and thee shalt succeed.

Chapter 2 - Weapons.jpg
No man can fight without the tools provided to do so. The races of our
world are oft not made for battle, their skin and hair soft, and their limbs
short and stubby. An exception to this may be the Caparii, who could kick, but
even then they would lose their footing. To do away with this problem, and
all other problems our body forces us to have, the limitations we are subjected
to, the sentient races have constructed tools. Weapons of war are very much
of the same nature, tools to allow us to surpass the limitations placed upon
us by the gods.

Our weapons should therefore be cared for, treated well, and most importantly,
studied. It is the gravest disrespect to both your own wellbeing and the weapon
you're carrying if you refuse it the respect it deserves. It is, as it should be,
one of you. A sword the extension of your arm, a spear that of your body.
To expand on the art of doing such, of making sure one's weapons are
handled with care and used well, this chapter is included.
The following pages will discuss the differing weapon types, and general
information on maintenance and use.
us by the gods.
Sorry that its so small, I'm a little busy.
