[Island] The Grey Isle

{Moderate} - RP actions must be justifiable.

The isle is located in the north western seas of Altera and is the largest village for several leagues. The Isle has an ever growing, bustling port, meaning that booking passage to the Isle is not difficult. Travelers do find that, despite its lack of snow, the Isle's cold winds and rain can chill a man to his core.
~

~
Politics
The isle is an independent City-State, held under the authority of two closely related governing bodies. The Consortium of Moors and the Acolytes of the Grey Lady are nearly indiscernible from each other, members often holding positions in the two independent bodies.
~

~
Residents
The inhabitants of the Grey Isle are people from all walks of life. There has been a large influx of Moorish residents due to a new cultural movement among their people. Typically residents of the isle stick to themselves, often seeming cold and uninviting to travelers. Travelers should remain wary of those around them.

Life on the Grey Isle
The isle is refuge to many who are escaping past lives. Though it is not an easy life upon the isle, it is one that has it own rewards. Farming upon the Isle is difficult, as it the soil is quite rocky and impoverished, though a few small farms exist. Most food, however, is obtained from the sea, and there is always work to be found upon the fishing boats. The Isle's governing bodies do provide homes or at the very least a place to stay for any residents. This helps preserve the natural beauty of the Isle as well as protect the resident, as it is dangerous to be out alone at night. Residents in turn are expected to give aid should the Isle find itself upon hard times.
~

History
The Isle was founded by the infamous Grey during his service to the House Lonmar. It soon became obvious that he was working independently, dark rumors of the Isle spreading across the Northern Kingdoms, most of them true. Under the guise of the Grey Lady's teachings, Grey warped the minds of many who than served beneath him as the Grey Acolytes. The citadel on the isle grew, and with it, the influence of Grey. In the following years war broke out among the Houses, all of them vying to hold the silver throne. Using this to his advantage, Lord Grey offered sanctuary to any refugees for what seemed a small price. A statue of Grey was erected over the new village, holding the symbolic document that came to be known as the Corpse Tax. A source of steady recruits was created, fear and terror following in its wake. After several years of darkness, the Lord Grey who many feared immortal was slain... and remained so, his tomb placed high upon one of the many cliffs. The Isle was free and Lord Eammon and Lady Layne claimed power. The Isle began to flourish, its port opening to many trade ships from across the realm.

~

~

Military
As it is a maritime power, the Isle's foremost militaristic focus is its Navy. Preferring swift maneuverable vessels over their large cumbersome counterparts, the navy prefers guerrilla tactics over full frontal assault. This also goes for any land forces the Isle has, being the acolytes, who might best be described as warrior monks. Though few in number any would be attacker would be hard pressed to truly conquer the Isle.

Notable Organizations in Grafjell
Grafjell has grown to be open to many neutral affiliations and organizations. They are listed below.

+ {Ministry of the Grey Lady} [x]

Owner: Ashna Khovr
The Grey Lady's Ministry harbors a distinct favor to the Isle's patrons and faithfuls as they've become guardians of the Isle in its time of need.

+ {Greythorn Hall} [x]

Owner: Sentinel Somnastra Somnastra
The Rangers Guild will make themselves apparent when the occasion calls for them.. and when the right seeker approaches.

+ {The Gallipot} [x] [Closed]
Owner: Tzemik Kavasn Michcat
Rumors of a cliffside with small but bustling shop has spread here where many gather to buy purchasable healing goods. Lately, it has been quiet. Any visitors should be mindful of the cliffs, as the unwary are known disappear over the edge.

+ {The Eyes of Silas} [x]

Owner: Alexander Wise Ddaug02
The Captain of this ship has not been seen around the Isle after a long sail to the unexplored West. Perhaps he may show up for more adventures.

+ {The Coalition of Comfort} [x]
Owner: Aspen Aspen
A Caparii with ambition to spread the Tavern-esque wisdom has put the task upon his shoulders. He seeks aid where aid is spread~

Buildings of Note:

Shrines:
Grey Lady Shrine: Located in the Heart of the island, this shrine is dedicated to the neutral goddess of death. One must travel deep beneath the earth to pay homage to this shrine.
The Grand Lighthouse: The large lighthouse visible from the harbor is dedicated to this neutral god of trade. Many sailors and merchants will meet within to both honor their patron and discus good trade with each other.
Stream of Shalherana: This stream passes through the harbor district, flowing into the ocean. The tree of Shalherana is rooted on a small 'island' where the stream diverges into two sections. The water that flows through here is rumored to have healing properties.

Public Buildings:
Citadel: The Citadel was once the fortress of Albiorix the Grey, it is now home to the Acolytes of the Grey Lady. Though these Acolytes are not great in number, they serve as highly skilled guardians of the Grey Isle.
Meeting Hall: This building is reserved for special occasions within the city. Political guests are often housed here. Any large events that take place within the city are also held within, from political meetings to festive events.
Lonely Acolyte: This building was once disguised as a manor during the reign of Grey, it has recently unveiled itself showing its true purpose. This brothel was a favorite among the less fervent acolytes who wished to... escape the world they lived in for a single night. With the fall of Grey, this establishment has seen an increase in business as citizens are now more free to pursue desires.
Grey Stream Pub: For those who do not seek a woman's company at the Lonely Acolyte, but instead have the thirst for strong drink, this is the place to find it! Located within the Inner Valley district of the Isle, this pub is often the place to here rumors spreading about the land.
Warehouse: Pretty self explanatory, this is the dock warehouse of Grafjell. Located near the docks, the exports of Grafjell can be found within.

Points of Interest:
The Tomb of Grey: For those wishing to see the grave of the once feared leader of the Grey Cult, this tomb is located high on the northern mountain cliffs. Some come only to spit at him who caused them harm, others pay homage to this site. Corpses of those who have taken their own life are occasionally found at the site, leaving behind stories of great sorrow and despair.
Merchant Terrace: The only completely paved terrace of the Isle, this is where traders sell their many goods. The products seen are usually fine rugs made from the wool of the local sheep, and many fishermen selling their day's catch.
Grafjell Heights: The highest point in Grafjell, this battlement looms high above the Inner Valley of Grafjell
Southern Passage: This road scales the southern cliffs of the Isle, granting any who walk it breathtaking views of village to the north and ocean to the south.
Grafjell Manor: Home of Eammon and Layne, this Manor lies within the Citadel, in the upper portion. It is only accessible to those who have permission to enter the Citadel itself.
Citadel Crypts: These crypts contain the many corpses collected during the reign of Grey. Many victims of this killer can be found in the unmarked graves that twist within the mountain.
Inner Valley Lakes: Located at the center of the Isle, these two lakes are the collection of the many springs that exist throughout the isle. It is thought that these lakes somehow flow to the lake that surrounds the Grey Lady's shrine deep beneath the earth.
The Grey Lady: Towering even higher than the first statue upon the Isle, the Grey Lady stands upon a small island just northwest of the Isle. A reminder to all who the real power upon the Isle is.
Goliath of Grafjell: The statue of Albiorix towers over the harbor district of Grafjell, holding the contract that once bound the citizens to the Corpse Tax
Ancient Castle Ruins: These ruins tell of a time before Grafjell was settled by Albiorix the Grey. Researching acolytes are still unsure of all that remains beneath the earth and are working on uncovering some of its ancient secrets. (In other words, I'm still building it.)

I'm certainly open to discussing any sort of diplomatic issues you'd like. If you see me online just send me a whisper and we'll get a roleplay going.

House August and the city of Heaven's Reach are always interested in alliances and expanding their borders.
Your lore seems to match August's history too.

I will gladly open up diplomatic discussion both IC and OOC.
We have been dormant the past weeks, but we are planning on something "big" to happen soon. ;)

I love the looks of the village. Very well placed in the landscape and nice architecture!

Will do... though it shall have to wait for the end of "The Grey".. whom you just met pyro... and the succession of the new peeps.
Moving this thread from archive to active town forum now.
Thank-you Baron, was meaning to ask if that should be done.

Thank-you... Perhaps I shall host an event inviting each leader of a Great house... or it could be done as hosting one... then the next... We shall see...

(For the purpose of this post, the word "Thief" refers to bandits, highwaymen, cut-throats, etc. who acquire goods in RP or OOC by toll-killing, murder, robbery or confiscation. Any outright stealing and griefing, as defined and prohibited by the server, will not be tolerated. You will be reported)

Thieves, sticky fingers and collectors of mysteriously dropped and abandoned items....

Rumours spread, heard in dimly-lit taverns and alleyways of a place where goods change hands. A place far from sunlight and cool breeze. A place to rid yourself of burdensome treasures acquired through negotiations and trade.

A place hidden. A place secretive. A place where you can buy supplies, sell your loot and take refuge.

But rumours of a thieves den... they could only be rumours.

A Dwarf, proprietor of a modest mining supply shop, could never construct a front for a more sinister operation. To suggest so would simply be ludicrous.
