About You!

1. What is your Minecraft username?
Moo_bot

2. How old are you?
18

3. What country are you from?
The states originally, Ireland now.

4. Have you read the King's Law, Code of Conducts, Official Lore, and the Player Guides yet?
Took a good while, but glad I did.

5. In your own words, how would you define metagaming and powergaming?
Acting IC using OOC knowledge of a situation (metagaming); and starting off with mastered skills or doing other things your character shouldn't be able to do - as well as creating imaginary characters to give you an edge over other characters (imaginary guards/combat followers) or removing RP choice from others, especially in combat (powergaming).

6. Do we allow X-Raying mods or X-Ray texture packs on the server?
Nope.

7. Name one of our current Mentors.
Jinny

8. Tell us about yourself!
(Introduce yourself! Tell us some of your hobbies, what kind of music you like, other games you play, maybe any pets you have. We're not asking for anything too personal, but we would like to get to know you a bit better to help the application and transition. This question needs to be a minimum of five sentences and not focused on Minecraft.)
I was recommended to look at this server awhile back because of how much I love medieval and fantasy themed RP like DnD and the Elder Scrolls series, and I decided it was finally time that I got around to doing a whitelist application. I myself outside of gaming love art and animation, and will be going into a 1-year course in animation before applying for college the following year. In terms of books, it's pretty identical to my taste in games with stuff like Eragon series and A Tale of Ice and Fire on my bookshelf. Music would take forever for me to get into, but boiled down - I listen to a bit of everything, but musicals will always hold a special place in my heart (especially Neil Patrick Harris).

9. Do you have any examples of your work?
A lot of stuff I have on-hand is just pencil sketch stuff, but I'll attach a couple anyhow.

About Your Character!
This section is about the character you intend to use once you join the server. We ask that new players follow these guidelines during this portion of the application:
  • Characters begin with basic skills and gear. No advanced armor or weaponry. Skills and abilities are appropriate to a novice level. Skills should be learned through roleplay, not through backstory.
  • Characters fit the lore. If you choose to play as a Moor Elf, for example, we expect appearance and details to be fitting with base lore.
  • Characters cannot use magic in any way. The test itself should not mention magic either. HollowWorld uses a restricted magic system and it is only accessible to those who find and learn from a teacher in-game.
  • Tests should not be violent. No murder, killing, death, torture. In the past, 8 out of 10 applications featured characters fighting off bandits or slaying passersby. We don't want to see how well you can script a fight scene. We want to see how well you can tell a story, how well you can roleplay.
  • Be creative and be original. Do not use tests/characters whose home villages were burned, parents murdered, and then set off to be an orphan assassin. It has been done before. Please don't do it again.
  • Written portion of the test is required to be a 400 word minimum. If the test doesn't meet the minimum, Staff may ask you to extend the test before the application is considered.
You can remove the guidelines above when you're copy and pasting the application. The instructions above are for you to read and can be removed when applying.

Written Test!
Drew took a deep breath in, and released - and with a confirming thud in the underbrush he had hit his mark. At least this much was the same. Slinging the rabbit over his shoulder, Drew made his way back to his camp near the edge of the forest. It was still only a few years now that he had been acclimatizing to the new smells and paths of these woods since the loss of his last home and many of his people. Despite this, he and many others were blazing new paths in this new land of opportunities.

It was the fact of how the humans especially, with their relatively short lifespans, had put so much on the line to help their fellows - despite knowing they were comparatively at a disadvantage - that instilled Drew's fascination and admiration in them.

He had a collection of things in a hollow in a tree near his camp of things from the human civilization, fallen items from trade caravans left on the side of the path. Odd 4-pronged handheld tools he discerned for grooming hair he dubbed “dinglehoppers”, though looked very much like forks, he decided humans probably didn’t know how to use them quite right. They were charming, but decidedly less intelligent than the other races.

He shrugged the rabbit into a more comfortable position on his shoulder, looking down the knoll at his camp. The smell of smoke hit him, the embers still smoldering from when he had first left, warm to welcome him home. After tying the rabbit up on a small rack, he grabbed his skinning knife, a bowl to catch the offal, and a spit for the meat.

Pondering while he worked, Drew thought upon the various caravans and carts he’d seen going into the large city on the coast, he thinks they call it “Stern’s Landing”, about their cargo and the people they carried into the stonewalled mosaic of roofs, a forest of man’s making. A sharp pain to his left hand brought him back into the moment. Pulling his hand away from the small carcass, he noticed a deep cut running down his palm, rabbit blood mixing with his own. “Damn” he cursed softly, fetching a small bundle from his tent. He holds a clean rag down on the wound, stemming the flow of blood as the rabbit finishes cooking. Both sources of blood having stopped, he settles himself on a rock by the fire to eat.

Drew produced a small roll of paper he had ‘acquired’ from one of the passing caravans, unfurled it with a rustle and examined the markings closely. He had lost count of the times he looked at this map, the towns and cities marked on its torn and tattered face were foreign and fascinating. Drew grabbed the spit and took a large bite from the rabbit’s leg, juices dripping down his chin, another mark on his precious scroll.

Full of rabbit and determination, Drew turned over in his sleeping roll, finally preparing to stop admiring them from afar - and travel to the city at dawn.

Current Setting of the Server:

As the last galleys pull into port from the Northern Kingdoms, so too do they mark the end of the Exodus. A dark and desperate chapter in Altera's history.

The undead swarms had battered us, and the Sea of Storms had bruised us, yet here we were, alive. Alive in a brave new frontier to the east, and the flickering embers of our dying lands were now kindling the fires of new civilization, in a land of opportunity, vast and boundless.

Now, for the first time in a long time, there is hope. Hope of a new chapter, a new beginning and a clean slate. Yet there is also fear. Fear of the land unknown, and the danger untold. There is fear that, in spreading the light, we draw the ire of what lies in the shadows. In this new land, it even seems as if demons and the explainable come out to play.

But no matter the opinions on the subject, there is one thing that may be said for certain.

Life on Altera was about to change

Your application is in good order, but you're missing a key component in your power-gaming definition.

https://hollowworld.co.uk/threads/roleplay-guide.42495/

Check back in here and see if you can't buff up the definition, then I'll proceed with your application!

If you have any questions, or concerns, message me or one of the other mentors!
