ABORT MISSION ABORT.
"Tavia, No!" Lu snatched the apple from her hand and glared down at her. "We do not steal." He yelled, an anger in his eyes she had never seen before. Her lip quivered, and her small, six year old hands covered her eyes. She cried and apologised profusely. Lu placed the apple back down on the market stall and bent down so that he was level with her. He snatched her hands from her face and stared deep into her eyes.
"We are good people. We do not steal. We protect people from thieves." He spat at her, his voice coarse. She nodded her head eagerly, fearful. She knew all too well how hard Lu tried to fight for good, and she was overwhelmed with the heaviest sense of guilt.
Even to this day, Tavia could feel that guilt as if it were happening to her right in that moment. The churning in her stomach, the cold sweats. It wasn't desirable, but it got the job done. Tavia never stole again...even if she was just a child who knew no better.
Now she was an adult, and she did know better. She knew right from wrong and understood the concept of justice. Ever since Lu had died, she'd been trying to find ways to follow in his footsteps. To fight as a force of good, protecting innocent people from the evil of the world. The one thing she wanted in life was to be seen as a hero.
Venti had told her that the world didnt need heroes, and in that moment she had believed him. It was a silly aspiration, she thought, to hope for a better world, but after some time she realised she didnt really want to give up on this hope.
After Ciaran's trial, Tavia felt conflicted. Initially she agreed with all Sangria stood for but that night she didn't agree at all...It felt as if she were taking orders blindly, not stopping to consider her own morals or sense of righteousness and that scared her. She didn't want to become a blank face among a sea of soldiers. She wanted to do right by everyone, and not just her king...
But she felt stuck. If she left what would become of her and Ventare? Of her friendships within the house? Her sense of belonging? Part of her was saying "Suck it up." Telling her that she was in no place to judge, and that she should just accept the world as it is.
She couldn't. She wanted to try and change the world, or die trying, even if sacrifices had to be made.
Tavia had a lot of thinking to do.
