Our Donation to Dwarf Fortress and a Little Reward

I made a donation to Bay12 (Tarn & Zach) on behalf of the Hollowworld community. They have returned the gesture by writing us a little ascii story.

Pain upon pain. Kajeth coughed and the hook sank deeper in. With all
his strength, he willed his arms to lift his body upward. Then he
heard her, the Shadow Mother, hated creature of the night. She came
shambling into the room, a head taller than the tallest brave. Kajeth
looked at the rest of the bodies hanging on the wall and despaired.
The Shadow Mother turned her single eye on him.

“Oh, not yet my sweet precious,” hissed the creature. “Not yet.”

“Kajeth!” cried Damso, astride his red horse.

The entire tribe searched the hills for their lost son. All knew the
night creature took him, but Damso, as chief, had the luxury to
imagine his son was merely lost. At last, as all knew it would, the
search led finally to the Mournful Marsh, a hated pit of snakes and
beak-dogs. It was there the Shadow Mother lived. Damso at last
accepted the truth. What now would he do?
