Settling in Altera
Name: Shadow Beetle, the name give to this nocturnal creature. Given it's name due to it's "Shadow lure" style.
Description: The Shadow Beetle is a beetle that hides in the shadows and lures it's prey, then ejects them with a quick acting sleep inducing venom. The venom can lasts roughly 3 hrs. depending on size of prey and amount. ( Max it will last. )
Size: The Shadow Beetle is roughly the size of a adult human's middle finger nail. Even with it's small size, it could take down rats.
Appearance: The Shadow Beetle looks sorta like a black rock, with speckles of white on it. when the Shadow Beetle opens it's wings, they are a light see through blue.
Abilities: The Shadow Beetle has serval abilities, 1. It has a venom produced in it's needle like tongue, and will inject the unsuspecting prey with this venom, causing them to fall asleep from anywhere in 5 seconds to 3 minutes. How long it lasts may vary, a beetles injection, roughly 5 mL, will keep there prey down for a good 10 minutes. 2. flight. It can use it wings to fly down onto the prey, and inject. 3. If the Shadow Beetle needs to retreat, it will run into shadow, become almost impossible to see.
Hunting: The Shadow Beetle uses a technique called "Shadow lure" it's a very unique hunting style, in wich the bettle moves it's wings casting a blue moving shadow. This lures prey close enough to be injected.
Diet: The Shadow Beetle commonly eats smaller bugs, rats, and maybe even birds.
Rarity: The Shadow Beetle is found in area with lots of shadows, but won't get to cool. ( Forests, Jungles, ect. )
Pros: The shadow bettle can be captured and have it's tongue cut, meaning the venom made will leak out, although, it would be easier just to open it up and take the venom sac ut, and squeeze it dry. ( 1st a lot of time, a lot of venom 2nd Less time, less venom. )
Cons: The Shadow Beetle might attack you, being it isn't the friendliest. Catching one is hard to do, since they only come out at night and cast moonlight, and will hide in shadows.
Friendliness: Being that the Shadow Beetle is relatively stupid, it probably will attack you on sigh, and try to inject you. although, due to the small amount of poison, you probably would only become drowsy.
Use: The venom is great for putting those annoying patients to sleep, or dunking you dagger in some and having some fun.
Testing: Shadow beetles do not like cold climates, are Nocturnal, and might group up now and then to catch bigger prey.
