TepigTurtwig's Application [Approved - Squidziod]

TepigTurtwig

Loyal Servant of Altera

About You!

1. What is your Minecraft username?
TepigTurtwig

2. How old are you?
15

3. What country are you from?
United States of America

4. Have you read the King's Law, Tome of Citizenship, Official Lore, and the Survival Guides yet?
Yes. Very fascinating reads.

5. In your own words, how would you define metagaming and powergaming?
Metagaming: Meta-gaming is the act of using OOC knowledge as though it were IC knowledge.
Powergaming: Powergaming is the act of either immediately forcing an action to connect, disabling another role player's control of their own character, or the act of creating a character that is unjustifiably powerful.

6. Do we allow X-Raying mods or X-Ray texture packs on the server?
No.

7. Name one of our current Mentors.
Snerus.

8. Tell us about yourself!
I love medieval roleplay, playing DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) 5th Edition and many other minecraft roleplay servers that I eventually stopped playing. I adore knowledge, mind games, and other tests of wit, as well as clever verbal back-and-forth. I can be emotional, both for good or bad, but I have some acting experience under which I hide all the bad. As long as everyone's happy and nice, I'm happy and nice.

9. Do you have any examples of your work?
I do love making fantasy builds, but recently had to re-install minecraft and lost all the screenshots. Sorry!

10. Did anyone refer you? If not, how did you find our server?
Google is magical.
About Your Character!
This section is about the character you intend to use once you join the server. We ask that new players follow these guidelines during this portion of the application:
  • Characters begin with basic skills and gear. No advanced armor or weaponry. Skills and abilities are appropriate to a novice level. Skills should be learned through roleplay, not through backstory.
  • Characters fit the lore. If you choose to play as a Moor Elf, for example, we expect appearance and details to be fitting with base lore.
  • Characters cannot use magic in any way. The test itself should not mention magic either. HollowWorld uses a restricted magic system and it is only accessible to those who find and learn from a teacher in-game.
  • Tests should not be violent. No murder, killing, death, torture. In the past, 8 out of 10 applications featured characters fighting off bandits or slaying passersby. We don't want to see how well you can script a fight scene. We want to see how well you can tell a story, how well you can roleplay.
  • Be creative and be original. Do not use tests/characters whose home villages were burned, parents murdered, and then set off to be an orphan assassin. It has been done before. Please don't do it again.
  • Written portion of the test is required to be a 400 word minimum. If the test doesn't meet the minimum, Staff may ask you to extend the test before the application is considered.
You can remove the guidelines above when you're copy and pasting the application. The instructions above are for you to read and can be removed when applying.
Character Name:
Jerek Zeln

Character Age:
The Elf equivalent to 24. I'll go with 82.

Character Race:
Silver Elf

Appearance:
Jerek has long, flowing blue robes, made to be majestic yet imperial in design, keeping a simple palette of blues with little embroidering. He has pale skin that emphasizes his frail frame and delicate facial features, with dark hair over his long elven ears that pierces past his delicate blue eyes. He attempts to wear a wan smile across his lips, and is typically coated in a few ink stains.

(Optional) Picture of the Skin:
My ability to upload skin pictures is rather poor. I hope the appearance suffices.

Written Test!
Jerek glanced up at the shelves, reading all the fancy labels as he often did. There were simpler ingredients, such as various animal hides and ingots, but also some more bizarre ones, such as elf ears and dwarf fingers. He always wondered why an alchemist needed either elf parts or dwarf parts, except maybe for specified fertility potions or appendage repair, but to his knowledge, his master had never received a demand for either. Either way, he had a job to do.

Grabbing the squid ink vial, he dabbed his quill in, and, as often happened, he was so caught up with the vastness of the ingredient stores that he forgot to cuff his robe sleeves. At the end of every day of work, his sleeves were black as coal, and today, he saw, would be no different. He hastily scribbled out the recipe his master wanted documented. Master Melin was a busy alchemist with no time to document his experiments; after all, that was Jerek's job.

The master came in, his more grizzled features showcasing his lengthy lifespan, which Jerek approximated to be within his early 250's at least. He chuckled at Jerek's frantic recipe write-out, and then looked at them, groaned, "I can't read this," and proceeded to tear it up. Jerek sighed silently and went back to work writing the recipe down again. It was tedious, but his hand had adjusted to quick writing long ago. The master kept on chuckling, inter cut with "hmm..."s of thought. Eventually, Jerek managed to pass of a recipe that the master deemed decent. Then, it happened.

As Master Melin took the recipe with his left hand, his right hand gripped Jerek's right wrist, with which he had handed over the recipe. Suddenly, the Master spoke. "Jerek, my scribe, you've been doing a great job, putting up with my shenanigans. As a reward, I'll increase your pay. However, I'd increase it more if you did me a....favor." He arched his eyebrow suggestively and winked at Jerek, which was enough for the younger Silver Elf to get the signs. Jerek stammered, "Um..um...no...thank....you.....although.....thanks for the offer.....I guess....um," to which the Master spoke, "Are you certain? I've got plenty of radiants to spare." Jerek replied, finally regaining his bearing, "I am not your harlot. I am your scribe. If you wish for those two roles to intermingle, you'll need to find a new scribe." Quickly, with his ambidextrous-trained left hand, he scribbled, without so much as looking at the parchment. He tore it out of his log book, and handed it to Melin. It said the following:

I, Jerek Zeln, formally resign from the post of Melin Durnius' Scribe, as we seem to have a conflict on staffing and position. Thank you.
With that, he brushed away the elderly elf, and stormed out. Melin now needed a new scribe, and Jerek now needed a new job.

Current Setting of the Server:

As the last galleys pull into port from the Northern Kingdoms, so too do they mark the end of the Exodus. A dark and desperate chapter in Altera's history.

The undead swarms had battered us, and the Sea of Storms had bruised us, yet here we were, alive. Alive in a brave new frontier to the east, and the flickering embers of our dying lands were now kindling the fires of new civilization, in a land of opportunity, vast and boundless.

Now, for the first time in a long time, there is hope. Hope of a new chapter, a new beginning and a clean slate. Yet there is also fear. Fear of the land unknown, and the danger untold. There is fear that, in spreading the light, we draw the ire of what lies in the shadows.

But no matter the opinions on the subject, there is one thing that may be said for certain.

Life on Altera was about to change
.

Hello, and thank you for applying! Your application overall looks very good, but there are a few minor discrepancies to be corrected:
  • Elves (Forest, Silver, and Moor) live to be about 200-300 years old. Having the older elf be in his 450's therefore is too old. I also might suggest making your character a little younger too if you want him to be the equivalent of 24
See? Not a lot wrong here, so nice job! Once you've made the proper amendments, comment on this thread and I'll take a second look. Thank you!

Congratulations!

I'm pleased to announce your application has been approved. I hope you enjoy your stay in Altera. Before logging on make sure you read the Survival Guide. It will help you on your way to get established in our World. If you need to know any additional information, everything can be found in our Tome of Citizenship. Make sure you consult either of these two before asking a question ingame.

For easy reading- Here's our Starter Guideonce you login!

If you're stuck unable to interact with anything or chat, try using /warp whitelist, if this doesn't work then please message a staff member with the problem.

You are probably eager to jump into the game, so there is no need to read all the links. Just use these as a reference for later.(very useful, by the way.)

Lastly, please make sure you understand the following points. It's very important. As a new player, once you play you may be tempted to "test" out an x-ray mod... don't do it! We have a zero tolerance policy for it.

1) We have active members of staff monitoring players suspected of using X-RAY. We have extensive logging capabilities which also highlight to us when X-RAY is suspected. Anyone caught using X-RAY mods or Transparent Texture Packs will be permanently banned without appeal.
2) Anyone found to be griefing our server and subsequently blaming their sibling, friend, dog or any other person other than themselves will be banned irrespective of their innocence.
