Poster { The Nature of the Blight Intelligence }

NIAH

The Lurker
Retired Staff
Lady Elizabeth Kane has penned a treatise examining the nature of the Blight and what controls it. With the help of various servants and willing bodies, she has ensured that several copies have been penned and disseminated through the Isles of Linlea. Sometimes in pieces. Sometimes in whole parts. Any that find a copy, some of which are tied together and tacked onto walls and doors, may read its contents below.

The Carrion Lord.
The Intelligence.
The Entity.
The Gestalt Pestilence.
The Plaguefather.
It.

These are only some of the names for an infectious presence upon our shores for which we have no true moniker for. By and large, it has remained elusive in some ways and has yet to reveal its name, but be it understood that the Blight is beyond just a disease. The Ashen Blight is merely a seed which roots the Entity’'s ability to warp and control that which it infects. It has been a challenge to remain one step ahead of this Entity, as its very nature appears to be to evolve and adapt to our plans. But lives are at stake, and no more can be risked to live in the dark amidst what is going on. In the interest of protecting lives and making sure none are caught unaware, this is being passed out so that all may have the full awareness of the pestilence we face. This is what we know to be true, and bear these in mind when wandering outside of your homes, or tending to your ill loved ones.

{ Its Mind Occupies Hosts }
There was a cogimens that once peered into a bird, and found a mind peering back at him. A bird is not capable of housing intelligent thought, beyond its basic instincts. But the cogimens saw a vast presence that shielded itself behind a wall to avoid detection. In retaliation for being discovered, that cogimens was attacked and severely infected. Later, another cogimens peered into the mind of an infected woman and discovered that she housed another mental presence beyond comprehension. His mind was nearly shredded for his meddling. This presence is a frightening entity, capable of spreading itself into the minds of others, and even inhabiting that which cannot form its own thoughts.

{ It Controls the Beasts It Infects }
First observations noted that infected subjects showed increased signs of aggression. Further study and observation has revealed that the creatures act in accordance to a larger directive. The birds are the largest and most noted example. They fly as one entity when they swarm. What one sees or hears, so do the others. What one knows, they all know. There a multitude of birds that exist across the continent, and they act as scouts and spies. If you see a bird watching you, do not approach it. Do not speak anything near it that you would not wish overheard by It. As well, the beasts of the mainland have fallen to its control. Consider anything living capable of harboring this disease, and therefore succumbing to its control. As we know that It's mind already occupies its host, consider anything severely Infected as capable of acting as the eyes and the ears of the Entity.

{ It Influences Mortal Hosts }
Just like the beasts under its control, so too does it affect the mortal hosts. When the black veins begin to show, the Infected are plagued with dreams. The Entity, in a moment of conversation by means of a wendigo, called them Dreamers. The plague ships that crashed into the bay were filled with dreamers that were led to Linlea with visions of safety, cures, and a haven. Their aggression and desperation nearly killed many. At that stage, it is best to remember that they are not themselves. Your loved ones are no longer able to act freely, as Its subtle presence steers their very actions. In the final stages of progression, the Entity is able to fully inhabit and control the body. The death of one patient allowed it to inhabit the corpse fully and make attempts at conversation once more. Any suspected of being influenced are to be reported to Elizabeth Kane, Charles Kane, or Jaden Seeker immediately.

{ The Blight Can Be Cured }
There are instances of the Blight being cured by rest and recuperation, but it is not an easy path. Nor is it a reliable one. A Formist may use their abilities to purge the infection from the body. An alchemist may be able to brew a concoction to draw it out and neutralize it. A Divinely Blessed may able to gain favor enough to bless them with vitality. If anyone becomes ill, seek a healer immediately. There are many ways to curb the spread of the infection, and it grows perilous for you and any around you if you wait or attempt to hide symptoms from others. If you wait too long, you may find yourself lost to the Blight.

{ The Dragon }
The dragon is a fearsome foe. Its presence in Compendium was fear inducing for many, but seemed to be a sliver of its capability in compared to the destruction it unleashed in Thorne and Linlea. The roar is able to damage hearing and bring blood to the ears, so be careful during any sightings. It seeks to push the continent to starvation. It targets farms and high target areas that seem to house large groupings of infected, or capabilities for large scale food production. It can be maimed, as it was burst from the sky once before. However, any plans that are made against it are easily discovered by Its hidden operatives hiding in the hosts. Be careful when speaking of it, as it only takes a nearby bird or a severely Infected to alert the dragon of potential plans.

{ The White Spires }
If there is anyone on the Isle who is able to shed meaning on "The White Spires of Loneliness", speak immediately with Lady Elizabeth Kane.
