Kekoa
(Ke-Koh-Ah)

-Titles-
Brave Warrior
-

KEY INFORMATION:
Nickname/Alias: TOP KEK
Age: 26 Years, or roughly 319 Bright Moon Festivals.
Gender: Ahli / Female
Race: birdperson / One of the Makani people.
Social Status: Caste of YaVeiMakani, The Hunter Winds.
Relationship Status: Non.
Sexuality: Open to interpretation.
Height: 5’3” / 63in / 160cm
Weight: 125lbs
Wingspan: 14’ 1” / 169 inches / 429.26 cm / 4.2926 m

Gliding Capacity: 50lbs extra before gliding becomes compromised, 75lbs extra before significant risk of grievous injury.
Homeland: Vata’inu.
Current Home: Demon's Roost within the "Eastern Continent"

PHYSIOLOGY:
Build: The crown of her skull just above 5ft and weighing in at 125 pounds, Kekoa enjoys all the traits of a pureblooded YaVei and none of the typical tall, slender, female Makani form. She stands shorter than most of her kin, toned muscle built up in her shoulders, wings, and legs - adding onto her overall weight. Fortunately, her wings seem vast enough to compensate.
Eyes: Large and unmoving, her black pupils are framed by grey-white irises that, in certain lights, has a grass-green tint.
Beak: Hard and black, with a small stripe of yellow by her nostril slits. The beak itself is closer to her face, almost as wide as it is long and sharp at the end. Kekoa keeps it well maintained.
Feathers: This Makani is boldly patterned, despite the one-tone nature of her colouring, and ends up mostly white with light brown, dark brown, and tawny accents, black tips and spots on her wings and tail.
Her feathers are mottled and spotted, tawny brown on white, with the backs of her arms and wings striped with brown. Her tail is dark brown at the tip, and pale white at the base while her chest is mostly white, mottled with brown that becomes a dark belly patch. Her legs are covered with thick white-spotted-with-tawny feathers and down just past the knee, farther down than other Makani. Kekoa’s wings are pale on the underwing, with dark patches at the bend of the wing, and her head is white that becomes a mottled brown at the base of her neck.
She preens her headfeathers with pride; They’re stark white and grow outwards from just beyond her eyes and cheeks.
Her head-feathers stand out as three dagger-like points sweeping back from the crown of her head, each comprised of stark white, slim and lithe quills. The plumes are spaced more or less evenly apart, curling slightly inwards the farther they get away.
Skin: Underneath the feathers, Kekoa is clad in mottled peach-toned skin. Her hands, forearms, calves and feet are clad in hard, scaled hide - Toned a ruddy orange brown.
Identifying Marks: There is a C-shaped scar on her left calf, telltale of a lost fight long past. Kekoa is unique among non-Makani, yet when immersed amongst those of her kin she tends to blend in as a very stereotypical YaVeiMakani.
Wardrobe: A simple, and relatively short, wrap-skirt made of coarse uncoloured linen is tied around her waist, under her tailfeathers. Kekoa tends to prefer a larger, similarly uncoloured toga for more ceremonial circumstances.
Hygiene: She preens herself often, and takes care tending to any infestations of mites or lice. Occasionally, Kekoa indulges in a nice dust bath.
Voice: Sharp, and lilting.

Appearance: Kekoa stands tall and proud, her wingtips stretching out nearly seven feet to either side of her at full spread. She’s most often clad in some kind of armour and festooned with weapons in sashes, belts, and bandoliers. There is a haversack slung across her chest, the cacaphony of brown and white garb getting lost amongst her mottled brown, white, and tawny feathers. Her head cocks from side to side, turning so her sharp grey eyes can catch any threats before they come.

Birbspiration: The rough-legged hawk.

QUALITIES:
Skills/Strengths:
  • Warrior: The Hunger Winds serve Manna, and through his will protect their fellow Makani - Even from themselves. Kekoa is proud to uphold Makani law, guard for the A’keiyah, and be bonded with the Ayyei. She is a defender, and to this end has adapted to become a fighter. Her personal style focuses more on offensive maneuvers than defensive ones - Complimenting her brother’s method of combat. Her hands are comfortable around a weapon. She prizes courage, valor, and fervor - Which flavour Kekoa’s combat capabilities.
  • Hunter: She can see fine details at great distances, and has honed her stalking and striking skills around this. Like a true YaVei, Kekoa provides for her people - As a studied huntress, familiar with the ways of plainsland-plunder using bow, arrow, and spear.
  • Butchery: In the resource-starved (but nonetheless superior) lands of Vata’inu, it would be a moral crime to waste good meat and hide. One must know how to get every good morsel off the bone, every sinew for tools, every scrap of leather-bearing hide.
  • Arithmetic: She’s always had an eye for numbers.
  • Winged: Theres two big things sticking outta her shoulders and they allow for all sorts of exciting opportunities; Including but not limited to gliding.
  • Clawed: All digits of her hands and feet end in sharp claws, her foot-talons the pair more menacing (if you’re a rabbit or young goat). It’s useful for climbing.
  • Don't Die Out There: Some basic, rudimentary field medicine. The 'get yourself home alive' kind.
-

Fears:
  • Isolation: Kekoa is not sure if she could bear life without another Makani.
  • Storms: Red in the morning, traveler take warning.
  • Groundlings: These demons are all the Manna has rejected, and now she has been thrust in the midst of them. It’s grating on her senses in all the worst ways.
-

Shortcomings:
  • Break: Her left leg has been broken in a previous scuffle - It is well healed, by now, but could prove troublesome in the future. Like the other Makani, her bones are fragile and porous and prone to such breaks.
  • Deaf and Dull: Kekoa’s hearing is a bit poorer than your average Makani, and her not-so-keen sense of smell is nothing to write home about.
  • Unyielding: A YaVeiMakani who has dedicated themselves to the defense of Vata’inu has little time, or social currency, to expend on emotional range and expression. Tradition became habit.
  • Xenophobic: The rejection of everything outside her culture provides a barrier in learning to accept necessary changes in life.
  • Loneliness: The absence of kind faces and comforting touch is starting to sow hopelessness and despair in her heart.
-

Languages:
Yakai (Spoken, no written version)
‘Kayamon’ (Spoken: Kekoa has reached a more conversational level after receiving lessons from a groundling her brother paid. Many words still escape her, and although her understanding is more sound, her speaking ability is hampered greatly by her beak.)
(Written: She knows the shape of a few certain, precise words.)

Education: Traditional YaVeiMakani training.
Core Profession: Kekoa is firstly a hunter-gathered of meat. Subsequent professions include her career of choice, as a warrior-guard.

ETHICS AND MOTIVATIONS:
Personality: Despite stereotypes of the YaVeiMakani and her own personal edicts, she is not incapable of laughing and playing and celebrating. Kekoa is a creature of passion, she lives with a fierceness of spirit that makes itself known in all things she does.
Religion/Cults: The Will of Manna and The Three Sisters. She follows their song.
Heritage: Both her mother and father are of the YaVeiMakani, and their clan is strong. Like most of her (half) siblings, Kekoa sought the path of blood and valor - Only one of her clan’s brood opted to work as a shepherd. Her mother is Pauahi (Deceased), named for her golden plumage and one of the wives of her father, Maunakea (fate unknown), The White Mountain. Her most notable sibling is her half-brother Tevis Warwolf

Weaponry: She once had an heirloom bow of her family and Clan, which was irreparably destroyed in the fall of Vata’inu. Kekoa keeps her two bone-daggers close to the vest; They are some of her only reminders of home.
>Ater's Bone Dagger (< 1lb)
>Steel Dagger with a bone handle (< 1lb)
>One iron utility knife (1lb)
>One iron dagger (1lb)
>A spear (3lbs)
>A compound bow (3lbs)
>Quiver, w/ 15 bodkin arrows, 28 iron tipped arrows, and 2 arrows of Athryl's pain-causing make. (2lbs)
>Total: 10.2lbs

Armour: Kekoa has most often donned a chestpiece of boiled leather under the belts and bandoliers, and then similarly hardened leather bracers, vam-bracers, shoulder-pads and greaves.

Possessions Of Note: Two bone-daggers. A bracelet of woven vine. A notched prayer token, meant to be tossed to the wind, that she keeps for the right moment. Useful trinkets and knick-knacks such as tinder for starting a fire and bone sewing needles and a hide waterskin and a skein. A pouch with tiny baubles of luck. A few flasks now - some olive oil for the other Makani and her own curiousity, lantern oil, and rum for... reasons.

other stuff:
+ Metal Plates - Strapped to his forearms and upper arms.
+ Leather Bracers - Metal Reinforcment
+ Leather Shoulder Pads - Metal Reinforcement
+ Leather Armor - Torso
+ Leather Kneepads
+A bow
+Some pelts
+whatever else Jerr'co had on him at the time kekoa murdered him

R E L A T I O N S
thank you Niah for the Yakai lexicon!

-Maya-
+Tevis: Her blood brother and ally in all things. Kekoa would gladly give her life so he may live his, and cherishes their bond both in battle and in life. Warwolf
+

-Ahnadi-
+

-Mediya-
+Maui: He is a strong YaVeiMakani, yet tortured inside. She trusts him, however, and greatly admires his judgement. Rygan
+Tei: He seems strong and capable. Kekoa can respect this. She sees him as reasonable, and looks forwards to talking more.Narvendel
+Lelaki: Kekoa understands why Lelaki was chosen to represent the Lei. He is dependable and reliable in all things. She is grateful, too, that there is another Makani who makes this wretched world feel a little less lonely. ShaolinPunk
+Lualatis: Kekoa believes him to be wise beyond his bright exterior, and still happily envies his grasp on Kayamon. Vincentius

+

-Ahmabi-
+Eiyahli: How young and fragile. Kekoa will fiercely guard this little one so she may grow up to be beautiful and strong. mokwar
+Lilinoe: She is quiet, but seems kindly. Ruulu
+Evani: Strong-spoken and intelligent. Hopefully they can become better friends. Spooksy_
+Suva: Kekoa would like this Makani more if they were not a Po. They are levelheaded, and relatable. Uncray
+Aia: Cute but stupid. Charybdis
+Reivos: He is well spoken, a seemingly level headed Makani. Kekoa appreciates this. Niko
+Noe: A poet, and like many poets, a brooding one. Kekoa disapproves of this Makani's critical ways, finding them childish, but her reasonableness has slightly redeemed her in Kekoa's eyes. Ruukasu Lawliet
+Aihida: Another YaVei! She always seems so sad -- and Kekoa seeks to help her overcome that.Catena
+Manya: And another YaVei! Seeing other females of her clan helps Demon's Roost feel more like home. She hears this one is a shepherd. Sizzix
+Sova: A fellow YaVeiMakani. Kekoa looks forwards to the hunts they may have together. RagingLunacy
+Parvani: All Kekoa knows of this PoMakani is that she is doing something with a beehive. Legendary Fiction
+Tiaki: Even though he is a fellow YaVei, Kekoa finds him too hasty, too rash, too violent. But she cannot blame him. Those very things will be useful in a fight. Elt
+Malu: Like Eiyali, this young fledgeling must be protected at all costs. BoredBrit
+Talu: A passionate Makani who reminds her of herself. This makes Kekoa both comfortable and uncomfortable around him. Glados
+

-Kas'Wah-
+'Gyll': Never fails to greet her with kindness. Of all the groundlings, this one is by far the most polite. Why is it always so pleased to meet again? Kekoa did not expect to enjoy their company, too. Samwych
+

-Soyah-
+'Aytir': Makes a good hostage. Clearly a trickster, and liar, but not outwardly violent. Magiik
+'Goony': Gullible, soft, and weak. Fitting, Kekoa thinks, for a demon. It has a tendency to hurt its self. Kekoa thinks this is also fitting. Charybdis
+'Sir': damn that was a sweet dagger deflection! Arken
+'Aylt'syr': Stupid, and clearly soft in the head. Plus, if Maui does not like it, Kekoa does not like it. However, she cannot deny the usefulness of a groundling who wants peace - Kekoa believes it could benefit her yet still. Elt
+'Aiydeela': Tevis paid this demon to teach her Kayamon. Kekoa will tolerate it only as long as is necessary. bettemus99
+'Trees-tyn': Kekoa presumes that this groundling, who is Not A Sheep, is the mate of 'Goony'. Elz
+'Ayrien': Pointed a weapon at Kekoa. It is fitting that Kekoa appropriated said weapon. She has no intention of giving it back. Bobert
+'Jaydyn': The groundlings innocence was explained long ago. Now, she remembers training fledgelings as she watches this groundling with its 'rekroots'. Aching sorrow pangs in her chest, drenched in longing for home. CloakedReaper
+'Klynn': An artisan who may be able to help her people. He seems rather alright. Raalvara
+'Josef': A helpful groundling that has provided much information for the Makani people. Kekoa's exchange with it only reinforces her determination to fix the moon. Squidziod
+'Fawlkyn': A friend of Jaydyn, Ahtyr, and Klynn.
+'Shuioo-gahkeen': A tailor who makes garb. Kekoa is intriuged to see how it would manage to surpass the obviously superior work of the Lei'Makani. Ruu
+'Day-er-awn': A weakened groundling. It is dying. Kekoa finds its sickness fascinating. Jstar
+'Liopharyn': Kekoa sees the wisdom in this sage groundling. It's demeanor is something to be respected. Shankster
+

-Tuus-
+'Red-Helmet Goat Demon': Kekoa did not mean for the demon to fall over its roost-balcony, but she blames the demon's own weakness. Manna would have given it wings if it was meant to survive. Smurf
+'Hawl'Loh': A simple groundling who does not talk much. Kekoa could never trust something so quiet! Hannah
+'Assyr': The groundling is notably difficult to get ahold of. Kekoa intends to return and have the words she intended... perhaps when she knows more Kayamon. Immerael
+'Green Cloak Obstructing Demon': An obvious enemy of the Makani people. Has a silver-leaf gem, which Kekoa will use to identify its allies. Azur
+'Red-Fur Green Cloak Demon': Friend of her enemy, therefore an enemy. Sophe
+'Ievlyn': Accomplice of the stone-thrower. But perhaps not so bad. Lannis
+'Black-Cloak Blue-Fur Demon': Accomplice of the stone-thrower and wielder of weapons during peace-talk. dUMMY
+'Dark-Fur Dark-Eye Archer Demon': Accomplice of the stone-thrower. Friend of the enemy. BrianAT16
+'Dark-Fur Green Cloak Archer Demon': Accomplice of the stone-thrower, and friend of the enemy. Lavilethorn
+'Dark-Fur Blue-Eye Hiding Demon': Accomplice of the stone-thrower. Niah
+'TywtMyk': An ultimately unhelpful groundling. She'll keep an eye on it. It appears, however, to be behaving... for now. Cymic_
+'Odd': They had an exchange of ... pleasantaries. The Tottot
+'Ay'rieka': A groundling that traded shiny rocks for a bone spear. Kekoa is pleased with this deal, but knows not to trust it. ZeroOrgan
+'Aythril': It is a common theme in these lands that things are not as they seem. Kekoa is willing to sacrifice what she must to protect the Makani; even her pride. IceandFire
+'Kayul': A guardian like herself, this demon is unique in it's composed demeanor and white fur. Kekoa is hoping the similarities end there. Scardrac
+'HaleiyahVeinan': Inspected her beautiful self for "sickness" and deemed her not. Kekoa was rewarded with a fancy purple thing of cloth. She suspects one of the Lei back at the roost might like it. Of this groundling, she gauges it to have a good head. It also uses her name! Shankster
+Old-Robe-Healer Groundling: Some creatures are not as they seem. TheDeester
+'Green-Skin Tusk Demon': Looks too similar to the Red-Skinned Demon Archer to be a coincidence - Kekoa will keep her weapons close around this one. Kamaoe
+'Vyrnaak': Who are you? Vincentius
+

-Rahkay'Veinan-
+Metal-Dress Fire Demon: Another murdered that chased Kekoa as she fled. She fears a demon that does not even care for its own. Baron
+'Stone-Thrower': Either a child or the weakest, most cowardly of groundlings - To throw a stone at a defenseless LeiMakani leaves Kekoa shuddering in rage. Niah
+

-Keiwah'Samanei-
+'Red Skinned Demon Archer': Once a hostile threat, Kekoa's hard fought duty has been honoured. Now she prepares for the battle to come. The Tottot
