Thorne Falls

Whilst the people of Compendium fled to the east for safety, they were attacked by multitudes of wildlife and creature alike. An almost unrelenting bombardment that chased them for hours, and yet the one who rules the skies made no appearances. Instead, rumour now spreads along the road of a few survivors from Thorne who speak of the dragon and the damages it caused as they tried to desperately flee into the safety of the city. They speak of people being deafened by the roar signalling it's arrival, a hoarse and horrific sound that haunts them still, seeing the people around them fall to the ground in pain with blood trickling from their ears. People caught in the black spray it spewed as it flew over the fields, the screams as their skin burnt and their eyes were blinded.
They say no aid came from the castle, that even as the gatehouse buckled and monstrous demons began to pick off survivors, Duke Bayard did nothing. The palace crumbled onto the people below, and as they hid away for hours in fear, Thorne became deadly silent.

Thorne has fallen to the Blight, the castle silent, and the occupants of the city scattered across it or have fled entirely. The Duke is presumed dead. The 'Breadbasket of the North' is no more, and it can no longer provide food for the multiple cities and towns it once did. Food will become scarce, and reserves for winter will be needed ahead of time - It is up to those ruling to handle how best to feed their people. And ensure they still last through winter.

+ Hunters no longer feel safe enough to go out, and even when they do, nearly every animal seems to be infected to some degree and so they should not be eaten. Food supplies run short across the continent in this manner.
+ Fishermen however have seen no changes to what they catch, and so any seafaring cities or towns find they are still able to feed their citizens. Though it should be noted, with the surge of evacuations and fleeing citizens to larger, safer cities, keeping them well fed may pose a challenge.

In medieval times, I don't think anyone is going to know about that. Nor will it really make a big deal for an RP server. I think you're fine. :)

(Is the fall of Thorne common knowledge?)

This can be considered common-enough-knowledge that it's spread around enough now.
