Swearing Oaths

I was just wondering how serious oaths are, if people actually swear oaths. Slightly random but I was wondering because in Medieval Times, swearing an oath was very important and it was very.. eh.. dishonourable to go back on an oath. So, yeah.

Not sure now, but I vaguely recall there being something where you could "swear on your power", although I have no idea how that is done, and it was a bit ago that it was mentioned.

... Of course, if you have a chivalrous and honorable character swearing vows is important. Unfortunately, those are in short supply.... Safer to either threaten the person with death, or just kill them on the spot.
