I feel like I know where you're going with that, and there's a reason I made us stop at episode 14.
I think the GGO arc was pretty good, if you haven't seen it I'd recommend giving it a try. It's not as good as the first but better than the 2nd and 4th. IMO anyway :)

goofy part? eleborate oO?
Deash is not an anime person. Goofy bits emphasize anime. So we watch more... serious, dramatic stuff. Or that's my plan~ He's lucky I'm pretty picky anyways and can point him in the right direction. :D

Added some stuffz in my last post regarding the arcs for you to pick then ;) - SAO is pretty good though ; Don't know what happened in EP 14 anymore though; Do you mean EP 14 of the normal SAO or SAO 2?

More serious ones(imho) then for you to check out then:
Log Horizon
Code Geass + R2
Danganronpa (detective mystery; they really babysit you in the anime though; so I recommend watching lets plays of the VN instead)
Fate/Zero/Stay Night/unlimited Bladeworks ( chronological for story only not for airdates; Zero is a prequel)
Kindaichi Case Files (Deective again; kinda like Conan just with older characters)
Spice and Wolf

If you have not seen it yet, I can suggest Yona of the dawn ^^
If that is Akatsuki no Yona then yeah that one got a nice story too.

I disliked sao LONG before the 2nd arc started. But im not going to talk about it, the only thing my opinions on sao have brought are arguments and I don't wanna ever get into that again.

Code Geass is also an anime I can 100% recommend ^^

It is also really serious and has a great plot and is generally good.

My mistake!

BIG MISTAKE!

I meant cowboy bebop-

Sorry ;-;

I have brain farts sometimes.

But can still recommend it.
You don't know how hard I laughed at that reaction, and then it turned into couching

Another serious anime to consider that I absolutely love is Psycho-Pass.

Psycho-Pass is a detective/future-dystopian-society sort of anime. The dystopian setting is one of the most believable I've seen in a while, and it raises serious questions about the direction of modern society.

Log Horizon looks a bit too cliche and fanservicey, honestly. The story may be fantastic, but with that one character, I don't know that I could sit through it. Investigating the other ones. Probably not Spice and Wolf, though.

Huhg which character >>? You mean the Heavy armored guy? - His shenanigans are mainly there for comedy.
And yeah about Fanservice in general:
I'm personally not a fan of it either, because it usually takes loads of of time they could have used to implement more story(And some of them would have a pretty awesome story if it wasn't for forced fanservice scenes). The upside to it is that Animes who do that usually don't fare too well in Japan either and don't get a second season.

I understand the general sentiment though, I dropped series, that at first sounded promising, after 2 episodes, while a lot more, where people always tell me about how good they are, never made it past my summary screening.

Even the best, and most serious animes tend to have at least one fanservice scene nowadays, the intention is probably to sell more Blu Rays in Japan that way. (Which ultimately increases the chance for them to get a second season).

As for spice and wolf - Horo's introduction is indeed not that promising. Its basically a medieval story about trading, with horo as some form of pagan (wolf) goddess.
Other ones btw I just remembered:

Shirobako (anime about... making anime O.O)
Stein;s Gate (Time Travel Yo)
Clannad (Drama)
Little Busters (Drama in the same universe as Clannad)
Utawarerumono (Really hard not to spoiler anything here...)
A pilots love story (Hard to describe without spoiler ><)
Hanasaku iroha (City girl moves to the countryside where she lives and works at her Grandmother's hotel - Drama from P.A works)
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (A remake; You may even know this as the original had an US adaption named Star Blazers)

I'd say Kimi ga nozomu eien(pure drama) too, but I'm not so sure if you will like one of the later episodes there, and I don't really want to spoiler it :/

General rule when looking for anime though: No matter what kind of VN they origin from, it doesn't say much about its later contents (especially when aired on TV)

As for SAO, the current Arc is the Mother's Rosario arc there, I can tell in a few weeks if its worth watching, I only heard of a few parts of what its about, have yet to see a lot of that stuff though
