Lore & History FAQ

Depends on your RP group, usually. The various Exoduses (what an awkward word) and brushes with Corruption are generally good information to have as common knowledge for your character, but you'll need to track down someone with a better memory than I. I can't even remember the Elemental stuff that preceded the Return very well right now.
Bingo. There's no real "History of Altera" curriculum, but all characters would have at least some knowledge of the Exoduses, and possibly even the Cataclysm, though younger characters and newer players can of course have that knowledge through word of mouth or as fairy tales told to them, with events like the Cataclysm likely fading into a historic footnote due to so few people having been there (ICly, it happened over 2000 years ago and there's precious few 2000 year olds left).

So that looks like it was answering for "mammoths and whales," which I'm going to interpret as "whales" given the "don't get too ridiculous" comment by Legion. So:

1) As much as they ever were. So probably not a thing.
2) Whales?
3) Yes, real world animals.
4) I'm curious which you mean? But yeah, I don't see why not... Within reason. Remember, this is not intended to be a direct analog to the Middle Ages. For extinct animals, it's probably best to ask... if it even comes up!
5) See answer to #4!
Thank you, while I am sad at no Mammoths I'm much more pleased to have an answer to this finally. Not specifically the mammoths but the animals and fauna in general had confused me for a bit. I've had OOC debates on whether thinks like a single type of plant exists, say hemlock, and if so just one variety or multiple ones like we have IRL. This is very refreshing.

I should say that in regards to fatal poisons and things, we generally say that they're not effective... unless, of course, you have the full informed consent of the person being poisoned. If you don't, it's a one-hit kill type of thing, and that's not fair.

For how many years has there been intelligent life on Altera? Would it for an example make sense to find an ancient temple while IC?

Something I've been curious about for no specific reason:
Are Alterans convinced the world is flat or do they know there are other places out there?
Just a strange question :p

So, let me see if I have this right, any use of poison as a means of violence basically falls under a moderate region setting rules regardless of location. Even if you're in a violent tagged region? By that I mean in Moderate regions you're supposed to talk to the person and get OOC "yeah that's cool" before starting anything.

This is fine with me just wanting to get the rules clear before I even give poison more than a passing glance IC.

They know there are other places out there, especially since The Eyes of Silas crew started doing their sailing events. @Ddaug02

There are people who know of Kavdek, and folks who know of the Sea of Storms to the east. Though I am not sure this knowledge is common knowledge. But there are folks who know of other places. And of course, the Sorrowlands to the South, which is common knowledge.

Ender Pearls, yes or no?
If yes, how does it work?
Everything in vanilla minecraft is in Altera. So they are a thing. However the lore of ender pearl usage has yet to be released, so I am not sure /how/ they work or what they are. I've always refrained from acknowledging their existence and I've yet to be faced with a situation in which I have to.

Bump. I need to know. For.. reasons..
I know that ptiber's character, Galim Aeltus, was an explorer. He made a shop, then converted to a museum, with ancient relics. He described some ancient temples and cultures in some texts to accompany the historical items.

Oh okay thanks. I was just afraid of spending countless hours on a project only to have the lore police take me to azkaban :D

I would definitely try asking them to be sure if you're afraid of stepping on toes. I'd shoot Somnastra and Cherry a convo to be sure.

By the old lore mandate you'd need permission to write about stuff that happened a long time ago but has otherwise been around up to the present day. However, there are a few "ancient" ruins scattered around the map for those who can find them. Ruined towns come to mind. If you want something specific you should contact Faelin and Somnastra.

It should be fairly common knowledge the world isn't flat - the Greeks knew it 2000 years ago just from trigonometry and by seeing how ship masts became visible before the rest of the ship.

You always need consent with poisons when you take the action, since otherwise you pull a powergaming move ("btw, that drink was poisoned and your character is going to die in 3 minutes").
