Banlai
Physiology:
Humanoid in shape and appearance, they often resemble a human woman from afar. Taller than the average man, they scale at a usual six foot eight with some even reaching seven feet in height. Their chitinous skin range from a soft grey to near putrid grey-brown shades. This chitin also allows for a natural protection from predators. Their eyes are often times confused as having been void of irises, though what is seen as sclera is their iris, and always a white or yellow shade. Their pupils are often small, though can expand and make it seem as though their iris is black or the entire eye is black in times of great stress. Often times they appear emaciated compared to the average human being, though in reality, their average weights range from 80-100 pounds, allowing them to be lightweight. This aids then in being able to carry out silent footsteps and rarely leaving footprints, giving the impression of being lighter than air. When they do leave footsteps, it's hard to identify as to what it is, given the shape resembles that of a single hole. They contain sharp teeth, and no actual nose, rather flat faced. Many times ferns and vines will grow on their chitin, making it seem like they contain hair, when in reality, they do not. They are more closely related to insects than any mammalian species.
Sexual Dimorphism:
See Kinslai for Male counterpart. Rarely do mutations occur where a Banlai will be born male. These male Banlai are far more aggressive and will always result in being a sterile Banlai. Often times these are rejected by the mother by the fourth year of age, making them feral.
Diet:
???
Behavior:
More curious and docile than how their appearance leads them to be, they spend their days wandering. Often times they find themselves in isolated homes or villages, exploring the trinkets of residents. They spend most of their times in the forests and other dense areas, avoiding the light of day. If a Banlai is fearful or hunting, they'll release an ear piercing scream paralyzing their prey for the duration of such if not a few seconds more. A Banlai will not move while she screams, making her vulnerable as well. A Banlai voice is also said to be rather melodic when communicating with other Banlai or when attempting communication with other humanoids. Their voices are often described as single musical tones and pitches, though many travelers refer to it as an eerie sound, as their voices may stop abruptly with each note, similar to a record played backwards. They are also described to be protective or motherly towards humanoid races, finding them to resemble their own young. This leads them to be cautious of beast races, though, as they confuse them with other predators on occasion. Often times, one or two Banlai may live around the outskirts of a forested village, curious of it’s inhabitants, but they never favor one villager over another. This also may cause a Banlai to kidnap children or halflings, as they often confuse them with their own. Banlai are also known to mourn the loss of folk from villages they spend years nearby, often feeling the pain of a mother losing their child. It’s common for a mourning Banlai to scream or cry during the funeral of the fallen. This has caused Banlai to be a sign of death.

Yields:
When a Banlai perishes, they do not leave behind any yields worth taking. They may perhaps have a few ornaments of villages they had taken in the past, but nothing of worth. If one were to eat the meat of a Banlai, they would find themselves in high risk of dementia, due to it’s similarity to human meat and it’s chemical decomposition.
