Brief Tutorial: Glossary for Swords

Is sword design not allowed to fall under the fantasy setting?
Depends. If you design a katana no one would buy it anyway since it'd be relatively useless in a Medieval European environment. The handguard is rather poor and such. However, there were messers, which were German Medieval counterparts to your ever-so-loved Katana. They weren't exactly popular and were made more as replacements for scimitars, but existed nevertheless.

Nice swords too, and actually usable in European society. Think of it as an oversized two-handed falchion.
