Cassandra was unplanned and therefore her parents were bound in a shotgun wedding. This unexpected pregnancy meant there was a
lack of preparation or funds to raise Cass and so she grew up with very little. She often stole from the market place and sold the produce to others in the city - showing her potential in the dark market from the early age of 10. Her father, whom she acquired her haggling and bartering techniques from, was a merchant who sold Speckled White-caps, Ashen Blooms and common herbs such as Elderflower. Cassandra's mother was a prostitute and therefore wasn't at the house very often and spent most of her time in the brothel, yet her father was not entirely bothered as he didn't love her and it brought in decent money. This explains Cassandra's somewhat masculine features and personality as she was raised by her father and had a lack of a mother-figure. Cass often got into scraps with others girls her age (10) due to her over-confidence and snarky remarks.Teen Years:
The age of 16 years old was a dark turning point in Cassandra's life. Unfortunately her father had slowly been losing his mind through the years and reached his peak while Cass was a teenager. He was showing symptoms of paranoia such as locking both his and Cassandra's doors and having 6 individual padlocks on the front door alone; he also started to talk to himself in his room, which Cass would often overhear from her room. Eating his stock of mushrooms and drinking large amounts of alcohol was a catalyst for his underlying mental health deterioration. It got so bad that he locked himself in
his room when he should have been out working, leading to Cassandra having to make the household income at such a young age by taking the herbs and selling them at the market place. The long hours of work and stress of her father lead to Cassandra developing severe insomnia, which meant she listened to her father's insanity all night long.Adulthood:
One day Cassandra, who was 18 at this point, came back from a long day in the marketplace to find the front door, and her father's bedroom door, wide open with the multiple locks lying the on the floor; there was no sign of him anywhere. Her father had become a recluse and no where to be found. Cassandra was now living by herself and financially struggling. She had not seen her mother around the city for a long while either, so she assumed that she had gone off somewhere with another man. Unfortunately Cass' emotions and newly developed nihilism led to her prostituting herself for money, in which she had many traumatic experiences while doing so, and more recently drug-dealing with Opium. The Arget-Isles was much too posh to be a hot-spot for the dark market and so she sold the house and started to travel throughout the cities. By the time she turned 22, she had settled down and become less careless, however still dealing with Opium and occasionally prostitution. She now finds herself at 23 years old at Storms Landing, selling Opium, and trying to make enough money to settle down somewhere peaceful.
