The Holy Church of the Phoenix

MAR IS TOIL LE DIA

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ ✠ ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The Church of the Phoenix is a splinter organization which was originally apart of the Church of Artois. After religious differences that could not be reconciled it was declared in Harding, the seat of House von Hardanger, that they would form their own church separate from the See of Artois. Leadership of the church is tied to leadership of the house, and so the lord of the house is de facto leader of the church. Their formal title is “Pontifex Summis,” The Supreme Pope.

The church believes in an older orthodoxy that has taken root in Duchy of Féarthailte na Fail, the domain of House von Hardanger. The belief that the church should be more militaristic, and take an active role in pursuing heretics and other dangerous elements of society, as they did in the days of the Anhalder Reichskirche.

Organization of the Church

Pontifex Summus:
Thure von Hardanger
The Pontifex Summus is the head of the faith, and as such is the right hand of god, answerable only to her. He decides the direction of the faith, how the doctrines shall be taught, and how the words of God are to be interpreted. The Pontifex Summus is an accompanying title to the Duke of Féarthailte na Fail

Archbishop:
TBD
The Archbishop is the second closest to God in the faith. They are the closest to God in the church whose Duties are solely to the Church. Their purpose is to oversee the growth of the church and be the right hand of the Pontifex Summus in regards to matters of the fatih.

Grandmaster:
TBD
The Grandmaster, more traditionally Hochmeister, is the leader of one of the longest-standing and most obscure Ignis orders, using an archaeic spelling of the word “Ignite” - Ignad.

The Second Inquisitor:
TBD
By tradition of the Inquisition, the First Inquisitor is Jacqueline, now dead and a saint recognized by the church. The Second Inquisitor is its current leader, and when they die their successor shall be known as the Third Inquisitor. A second title that is given to the leader of this order is “The Inheritor,” or “The Inheritor of St. Jacqueline.”

Orders of the Church

Inquisition of St. Jacqueline

The Inquisition is largely autonomous, swearing distinct oaths from the other holy orders sponsored by House von Hardanger and undergoing a much more thorough interrogation and background check before new inquisitors are accepted. It is not a position from which one can resign, and for all the life of an inquisitor they will forever be known as such, even in disgrace. The inquisition has its own courts, where those accused of religious crimes are tried.

Its symbol is an inverted cross, known as the St. Jacqueline cross. Sometimes it is the traditional Anhalder cross, and sometimes it is the Church of the Phoenix cross. The colors associated with the inquisition are black and white.

Ignad Crusaders of the Sword:

An old and once obscure religious order that dates from the earliest foundations of Ignis worship, the Ignad Crusaders of the Sword hold to archaeic customs compared to modern orthodoxy. They are the most militant branch of an already militaristic church, and it is expected that those who swear their sword to the Ignad Crusaders will themselves be competent warriors.

Its symbol is a sword with emberlark feathers attached to it. The colors associated with the inquisition are black and gold.

Saints

The Church of the Phoenix recognizes most of the same saints as the Church of Artois, as well as several ones that are unique to itself. Those saints it does share with other churches are often revered for other reasons.

Saint Arthorius - The Emperor
Arthorius laid the foundation of humankind’s civilization as distinct from the other realms of the ancient world through his strong leadership. He was so blessed by God that it is said he was risen from the dead through Her intervention, until he eventually returned to heaven.

Saint Charles - The Uniter
Little is known of Charles and his rule, but in the canon of the Church of the Phoenix he is known to be the first Kaiser. His exploits border on myth, but what is known is that he united the Anhalder people and laid the groundwork for the empire through the grace of God.

Saint Peter - The Conqueror
Peter, the second Kaiser, is the one who made the values of the Anhalder through example. It is under his rule that it came to dominate the world, for he was one of the mightiest scions of God.

Saint Maceo - Slayer of Rahas
Mathieu, a defining figure in the early worship of Ignis Synnove, proved his glory to god on the field of divine battle when his intervention resulted in the death of the god Rahas.

Saint Jacqueline - The First Inquisitor
Jacqueline was known as the First Inquisitor, and through the grace of God she was able to form the inquisition and many heretics burned at the stake during her tenure.

Saint Gelyk - The Godbringer
Gelyk has many exploits which are the stuff of myth. Having been blessed by the predecessor of God, Harateth, and risen as an angel he was also the one to put Harateth to the sword and therefore ushered in Ignis Synnove.
