DIVINE MAGIC OVERVIEW
Acknowledgement from the Divines come to those who’ve earned their place among the ranks with persistent faith. One must develop a divine’s trust in their faith, their portfolio, or in the ways of their lives. Additional benefits do come from spreading that faith to others and bringing them under ones wing. Only those deemed worthy can unlock a Divine aspect and be accepted among the ranks to pursue a path through the Divine Tiers.

The Divines themselves seek prayer to thrive and live from. Without followers, believers and faith, their purpose in this world weakens. In order to promote it, they seek followers, worthy of gaining hints of their powers, so that their faith has weight. Only those prominent will achieve Exalted rank - these individuals are closest to their chosen divine. They will have to compete to stay in such a position. They spread the divine’s portfolio and are the most in tune with their aspects.

If a players/character goes against their Divine, you may report it to Divine Staff in a private conversation.

Returning players can look here for information:

- [ DIVINE LOGS ] -

To showcase the efforts and ventures of a character and their divine progress, records should be kept. Through continued work they will find themselves moving up in the ranks of the divine. It should be noted that you are very welcome to keep your own personal logs (via google docs for example) that have your work more in depth and can be referenced if required, if you are uncomfortable with it all being on a public thread.
---
Your ‘Divine Log’ is a public character profile where you log what you do as your character, be it events they attend, sermons they hold, or even smaller things like minor dedications and items created in their name. You can see how to do this by looking at the example thread linked [here]. You are able to create a divine profile even if you are not yet blessed, but making progress in trying to be. These new threads can be made in the 'Unranked' section of [Blessed Index].
Note: You can keep your divine thread basic and update a private conversation/google document instead, but do not regularly 'bump' your conversations as that is no longer the purpose.

Whilst metagaming is a concern, this is a bannable offense and anyone found to use divine logs in this way will be dealt with by moderation and risk removal from the divine system entirely.

If you need to plan out an event and discuss with Divine Staff you may still do this in your existing private Divine Logs for easy referencing or new conversations if not applicable. You may also update your public thread logs after something occurs instead of prior, to avoid people seeing things too early.

- [ COMMUNICATION & DIVINATION ] -
The Gods may choose to answer the prayers of their clerics directly, but such a thing is rare. Signs have been known to be given in some instances, a flicker of their presence. Those of higher faith and greater blessings find that they gain access to a direct spell, ‘Divination’, to allow them communication with divine powers. They find that the stronger they get, the closer to their God they become.
---
Any T1/T2 characters may, upon hosting an event with a dedicated effort, attempt to seek a vague answer from the divine. This is not a guarantee, and often results in nothing, but also may result in a sign of some nature. These tiers no longer have access to ‘Divination’.

At T3, characters are able to use the spell ‘Divination’, which allows them to ask a question directly at an event or a sermon in game dedicated to their Divine. This spell is guaranteed to get a response, but can be cast once per month only (any time, just once per). Please state on the thread your question, so that Divine Staff may have an idea of what to expect.

At T3, responses are granted by minor Angels. At T4, responses are granted by Archangels. At T5, responses are granted by the God/Goddess themselves.

All efforts at communication in some form must be added to the thread ‘Divine Presence - Request’. It is only through this that Divine Staff will see the planned event and will either ask you to move it, or attend it. The thread can be found [here].

- [ RANKING UP ] -
There comes a time with enough dedication that further divine power is granted, but it is only through being truly dedicated and making faith an integral piece of a character that they will achieve it.
---
Through applying for a rank up on the thread ‘Divine Rank Requests’ found [here] you may ask Divine Staff to review your logs and consider you for a rank up in the system if they have not done so already. There will be cases in which people will find themselves ranked up without needing to post, but this will not be in all cases. If you are denied a rank up at that time, you cannot request again for one OOC week.

Ranking up requests will not be instant or even in the same week, and may clump together after a few weeks. Do not bump the thread or contact Divine Staff for the request to be looked at, they are aware.

- [ EXALT CHALLENGES ] -
The process of challenging an Exalt is made of two parts. IC, your character should issue a challenge through a prayer, stating the intent to challenge the current Exalt. This is to be given their Divine's blessing to proceed, and also to have the Divine contact the current Exalt to inform them of the challenge and to prepare a suitable instance to defend their faith. OOC, a ticket should be made from the challenger with the prayer contents, and the current Exalt must decide on a challenge with Divine Staff that is thematic to their Divine, be this a combat encounter in full armour, a gamble, or even a riddle.

Once approved with Divine Staff, the challenge will be shared with the challenger and a date/time should be agreed upon by the faithful ideally so someone on the Divine Team can be present for the outcome. Challenges on Exalts can be made once per two OOC months, regardless if its a different individual or not.

- [ CASTING MECHANICS ] -
Blessed have an amount of SP that they can use to cast spells, equal to their Tier+Soul score.
Spells that target a single person generally have a contested roll to oppose them, if relevant. Spells that target an area or otherwise affect several people generally have a set DC referred to as the 'AoE DC'. Everyone targeted by such a spell must roll a number of successes at least equal to the caster's Soul score to avoid the effect.

Spells and SP can be accessed in game by using the '/divine' command.

__________________________________________

- [ STUDENT & TEACHER ] -
As you progress through the ranks of the divine, you will be expected to teach others of the faith along the way. At least one of these people will be ideally guided truly into the faith, enough that they too will eventually reach the status of 'Blessed'. This is important, for it showcases how your character sees the faith enough to be able to guide and tutor another in it, to pass on your values and beliefs in a way it shapes their own faith. Once it is agreed between two parties, it should be added in both your divine threads to reflect this.

Players are permitted to share a student with another teacher, but only two at maximum and they must be of the same faith. The student will be required to have made a divine profile either before or as they accept being tutored in the faith.

__________________________________________

- [ MULTI-FAITH ] -
So long as you hold a more clear and secure faith to one, you may follow a secondary faith (such as joining a cult) but know that you will not receive T1 in both (or beyond). This faith must still be genuine, you should not be joining a cult for its benefits with no actual faith or basis behind it. It is possible that you may receive a 'Grace' with dedicated worship to both, but it can be a tricky path to follow. It should be noted that some Gods however strictly forbid multi-faith, such as Sallana and Ignis, and that others may feel scorned with favour to another.

- [ DIVINE MAGIC ] -
Divine magic is the spells and abilities that you gain access to at various ranks of the divine system, each Divine having its own pool to take from. You cannot use the spells from other gods (though you can use [Universal Spells] ), and there is no longer a pool of 'alignment' based spells as per the old system. Spells also do not need to be prepared ahead of time, and can be cast and used so long as the requirements of 'Action' are met and their is available SP/SP slot. You cannot exceed your daily amount of SP - There is no overuse, it is simply not possible.

Within the divine magic system there is a requirement titled 'Action'. This means that in order to cast that spell, you must be doing what it states, be it praying or touching the target, and though many of them go in depth on the list, here are some basic definitions:
Prayer - This must be a verbally spoken prayer to their Divine, and unless specified may be whispered or yelled at your preference. Some spells will include times, periods of extended prayer or a brief sentence.
Touch - Simple enough, the caster must be touching their target for the spell to work. It can be a grasp, or a light touch, and can be through clothing or armour.
Prayer & Touch - Combining the two above, they must hold the target for the duration of the prayer.

- [ ALIGNMENT ] -
There are now three main places of alignment for the Divines to fall under. There is no longer the ties to have 'good' or 'bad' or 'neutral', but there is instead a spectrum only on the scale of Chaotic, Neutral, and Lawful. This allows for more freedom in the type of character to follow certain paths, so long as they still adhere to the tenets and follow them in a way seen as acceptable.

Lawful - Those of this alignment recognise and hold a respect for law and rules, and it is the core aspect that many of their tenets revolve around. Rules and law are in place to prevent a world of chaos, and chaos is the opposite of what they stand for.
Neutral - Those of this alignment can drift to a more lawful or more chaotic natures, but ultimately will never be pushed quite so far. They need not follow rules, but will not purposefully break them for the sake of it.
Chaotic - Those of this alignment do not believe in laws, or rules, and whilst not always believing they are 'made to be broken' they do not feel tied to them and have no issues in breaking laws to achieve their own goals.

Like with Events Lead, I'll be stepping down from running Divine as well about the same date (15th October roughly). Whilst I'll be about until then, Lannis will be taking over managing it. Thanks!
