- THE GHOUL -

Overview
Some people just aren’t content to stay dead. One of the preconditions for this sort of entity returning to the mortal realm is an improper burial - whether an unearthed body not returned to the grave, or a corpse which never received a grave at all. (This also includes the usual undead outside the wards, and they provide an easy vessel for angry souls.)

Their body reanimates, not by the influence of a powerful entity outside of the wards, but by the sheer vitriol of the soul which once called the body home. Their body remains in a permanent state of decay as it is more that the soul refuses to leave its body but remains disconnected, and this results in the corpse becoming more sluggish, and more rotten, as time goes on even if the decay is slower than the natural rate.

They hungrily devour raw meat, or flesh, even rotting flesh. They do so because there is a carnal impulse to consume - As if they will stop decaying providing they eat the living. To a degree they do regenerate upon consuming living flesh, but they will generally need to eat more and more for the same effect until they’re generally unable to keep up, and decay regardless. They also feel no pain, though sometimes may think they do, with the disconnection between soul and body.

Ghouls have both anima and mens.

Abilities
A Ghoul is no stronger than how it was pre-death, and will naturally weaken as the body it inhabits fails over time. But this is not to say they’re not dangerous, as they are extremely infectious and carry all sorts of disease as a result of being a walking, rotting husk. Being bitten or scratched by a Ghoul is a danger all in itself. The other danger is that, whilst undead are mindless, Ghouls are not. They have a remnant of their mens even if the memories and life experiences decay as the body does, and this means they can be clever in how they seek out the living. Eventually the anger and lack of humanity makes them too violent and brash to be considered intelligent, but they are to be wary of all the same.

Location
Ghouls are not tied to a location, and can appear wherever it is that their body fell and was left.

Note: These are able to be requested via the events team but player characters cannot currently turn into Ghouls. They are not 'technically' undead enough to be under Skraag's influence, but things like holy water and 'smite' will have an effect, the extend of which is entirely up to the DM. This is subject to change if Lore deems it fit.
