Legend
House de Courtnay has always been an ambitious house that holds dear to its nobility and wealth.
Through each generation, differing paths have been explored by its progeny, but the ambition to a
great legacy and to greater wealth has been prevalent. Though the history of the house goes further
than that of Emeric de Courtnay, going back to the legendary Lancel d'Or, we shall begin the history
herein with the named de Courtnay patriarch and matriarchs that have led the house in the past.
-=-
We begin with Emeric de Courtnay, during his time the house was a minor noble house in the vast
Lavoyarde empire and he found himself with the prestigious chance of being squired as a boy to a
Prince of the Turian Empire. As time passed and the boy grew into a man, he rose through ranks and
even attempted to marry into the royal family itself. This plan, however, failed and Lord Emeric was
found to have fathered a bastard that he refused to recognise until his final days upon his deathbed, in
which he legitimised the boy as his heir. Emeric's notable acts include calling upon the essence of Ignis
Synnove herself to combat the dragon of Visage in the streets of Le Havre through sheer faith and prayer.
-=-
Next, is Napoleon de Courtnay, the legitimised bastard. He found himself legitimised whilst already an
adult and with little prestige to his name. He devoted his life to the raising of the castle of Mountain's End,
having all the workers who worked upon its plans and construction put to death once its work had ended for
there are rumours that he had hidden a great mass of the Courtnay wealth in its very walls. Napoleon grew
old without an heir and was forced to name a cousin to be the next Lord of Courtnay. Few acts are known
by Napoleon de Courtnay, save for his raising of Mountain's End.
-=-
Then, Francis de Courtnay, a cousin to the late Napoleon, rose to the occasion. At a young age, he knew he
was destined to lead his family to Glory. He oversaw the raising of Avignon and the funding of the Church
of Fire- an alternative to the now heretical Church of Light. His life is considered to be a short and tragic one,
as he never got to enjoy the wealth and prestigious city he had built. He died in his early twenties, to stress and
disease. It is rumoured among some that he killed himself to avoid fighting in the Anhald-Coalition war, but
the de Courtnays fervently deny this claim. Unlike those that came before him, however, Francis left behind two
infant sons, to act as heirs to the family- first to act under the regency of his brother.
-=-
Sebastien de Courtnay was the regent of Courtnay and the Steward of Queensport. He led his family through the
exodus to the new lands and garnered great relations with the House of Kane as their closest vassal and official.
He helped tame the Kaltstadt and tame its lands to allow the bricks of Queensport to take root. He married into
the house of Eldrin and had two children. Once his nephew was of age, he passed on the mantle of Lord to him.
He later died during the great collapse in Queensport, in which a rift tore the city in two and cultists attacked.
-=-
Maceo de Courtnay, son of Francis, rose to the Lord of Courtnay and was shown from a young age to be a zealous
type with few inclinations to make friends. He spent his youth in the court of Eberhall and then Kane. Though, at
some point during his teen years he managed to secure an underhanded deal to the deeds of Lyon, one that had been
meant for Alison Kane herself. Having taken this deal, he left the Court and named himself Duke of Lyon. There, in
this new duchy, he grew in wealth, but found himself with few friends and many enemies in the court of Kane. He was
eventually put to death for an attempt on the life of Alison Kane. Whilst Maceo de Courtnay returned to life many
times, we will only focus on his first life in which he created the branch system of Courtnay and promptly disowned
his brother, Carlos de Courtnay. He fathered four children, leaving only three behind when he met his final death. His
daughters were named Lavoyarde, rather than Courtnay.
-=-
Fleur de Courtnay took the reigns of the House when Maceo met his third death, having taken the reigns of her own
branch only a few months before. She was given stewardship and acted as regent for Mathieu de Courtnay. Her notable
acts are few and not much is known about Fleur as she disappeared from public view after some time.
-=-
Mathieu de Courtnay is the current Lord de Courtnay and is a young, willful man. It is unknown what story his life will yet
tell but already he has shown himself to be a shrewd steward and conniving vassal. Whilst holding true to his faith, he has
risen in rebellion against his Kaiser for his refusal to allow Courtnay to secede. After almost killing each other in a duel, it was
determined that the Courtnay would stay in Kaltstadt but this has caused Mathieu to withdraw from Court and focus on his own
lands entirely.
