- Traditions, Events, Customs -
____

Whilst the Kingdom of Kaltstaat is ruled by House Kane, it is not only made up of this House. Together, with the vassals and people under Kane rule, the people have began the customary events and traditions that are kingdom wide. Starting within smaller villages and families, it expanded to be more of an occasion, and is now recognised as an annual holiday or event. Any festivals or dates of importance will be documented here. Many events here were shared when Houses Kane and Hallon were united, and so share several Anhalder traditions.

(OOC: Not all dates can be optimal for events - This is fine. We can roll with it being the day.)

{ Calendar Dates }

Months and their Traditions

Real - Common - Rede

September - Fogwater - Month of Last Harvest / Month of Kings
1st to 7th - The New Year
A week of no work, celebrated with feasts and parties. The New Year comes in September because it is the month that Kaiser Charles was crowned. Peasants and nobility alike are expected to attend a lengthy church ceremony on the night of the New Year before the celebration begins.

20th - The Imperial Hunt
The hunt has a loose starting date and unofficial ones often begin weeks before, but the official hunt led by Nobility begins on the 20th in preparation for the Harvest Feast a few days later.

22nd - The Harvest Feast
A feast held in the Great Hall of Queensport Castle. Whilst once this feast was limited to Nobility and those of lower class to gather separately, the occasion has merged. Granted, many still opt to celebrate it at home as well.

October - Ghostmoon - Month of Fallow
30th - The Fallow Festival
A day to celebrate the end of the winter preparations that occur between the end of the farming season in the Month of Last Harvest and the coming cold of the Month of First Frost. The day is spent in celebration in public ceremonies, and the night is spent modestly to remember the dead.

November - Stormwind - Month of First Frost
10th - The Ember Festival
A night of feasting and partying to celebrate the beginning of the end of the warm months of the year. Lords of Kaltstaat will light bonfires to ward off evil, and the Monarch will light a sacred fire for all of Kaltstaat withing the capital of Queensport.

December - Winterfeast - Month of Snow
No traditions at this time.

January - Snowdown - Month of Ice
No traditions at this time.

February - Floodlock - Month of Winds
1st - The Coronation of Alison I
An extended weekend of no work, celebrated with feasts and parties, to celebrate the crowning of Alison I and her rule.

28th - The Coronation of Katherine I
A period of several days that occasionally includes the 29th of the month of rest and/or celebration to celebrate the crowning of Queen Katherine I.

March - Springrise - Month of Birth
No traditions at this time.

April - Truebirth - Month of Rain
No traditions at this time.

May - Sporebloom - Month of First Harvest
No traditions at this time.

June - Lightshine - Month of Dawn
21st - Midsummer's Eve
Bonfires are lit across the realm, with official fires in Queensport, but also great outdoor festivals whilst it is warm enough to do so.

July - Sunbright - Month of Light
5th - 15th - Falling Stars
Each year, the night sky is lit up with light of falling stars, and a festival is held some time between these two dates, to remember our history and the people that helped pave the way. A time to be celebrated. It is an ill omen for the rest of the year if it does not occur.

August - Mistset - Month of Dusk / Month of God
No traditions at this time.

{ Un-Specified Dates }

These events are held all year around, with no specified date for celebration. Regular occasions, most of which began within the lands of Eberbau and have been accepted as tradition. Some are old house traditions that now extend to those outside of it.
= = =

- The Cleansing Fire -
A great effigy representing the false gods is constructed of hay and pine, and is burned on a ceremonial birch wood pyre by local inquisitors and clergy. Represents the purging of the minor sins one commits for that year. Tied to independent local traditions and is celebrated on different dates by different lords.

- The Nobles Ball -
A ball for all nobility, including foreigners, held once a month or once every few months by the Kane family of Kaltstaat. The date of the ball depends on the schedule of the Kane family and the Kaltstaat high nobility.

- Tapping of the Kegs -
An Eberhall tradition that is widely celebrated within the lands of Kaltstaat. It is an event to drink, eat, and be merry in a large gathering. Kegs of ales brewed within Ackerland are brought out, sought after by many working men of the land.
