"Somewhat of a mix between the concept of a Dane Axe and a War-Axe, weighing about four pounds and the length of the weapon is at about two feet, with the axe head and accompanying haft to accommodate making the entire weapon have a length of roughly two feet and half feet long [2.5 Feet or .76 Meters]. The handle itself is made of the wood from a northern spruce tree, leather tightly wrapped about the bottom of the handle and roughly midway up, to give a nice grip on the weapon when held in both hands, with enough leather halfway up the handle to allow for both hands to grip the weapon in the same place. Just below the leather wrapped against the lower end of the handle, a steel hawk has been made and attached to the weapon, not extremely intricate or detailed, in the event this side of the weapon is used to hit someone." - A description by Podric, smith of the weapon.
The Heartstone is set in the middle of the axe-head and it glows with a bright amber colouration.

Frostfyre: Frostbite upon their fingertips, burns adorning their arms. The sting and burn of both is one whole. The mage has meditated upon the conflicting forces of fire and ice and through their will alone has combined the two, taking elements of each to create spells of the Frostfyre branch. These flames will manifest both elements of the cold and of heat, an unnatural and forced harmony inflicted onto the world through the arrogance of a mage who wishes to tame a calamity and birth a new force of nature.

Warrior of Winter: The flames that Karsten is capable of producing are always a mix between crystalline blues and white, irrespective of any other devices that may influence such (e.g. a Foci designed to alter the colour of a spell would not function with his fire). This affects all spells that produce fire or influence fire (if he casts a spell on a pre-existing fire source it is warped to match his Knack).
Runic tattoos of Old Norvagen design appear upon his arms, back and chest whenever he is casting spells of the Frostfyre branch. These markings speak of a warriors valour, of the glory of combat and the protection one must offer family. They glow with a deep blue colouration, tinged with accents of black.
