Overview
The Kingdom of Hierax is situated mainly on Greater Skye but claims dominion over the entirety of
the Talon Isles. Directly to the North and West lie nothing more than vast expanses of open water,
over which no man can claim sovereignty. To the east lies the continent, housing Lonmar and the
Kingdom of Anhald as Hierax’s closest neighbours. Southwards is the wasteland, an inhospitable land
that houses no political entity.
Governance
The Kingdom of Hierax is a unified realm, with no direct vassals at this time; all are under the
suzerainty of the King Axex Hawklight, who rules from Blackstone Keep. The management of the
realm is therefore delegated not to vassals who own land themselves, but instead advice regarding the
realm and some small aid in lesser matters is entrusted to the Royal Court, a group of trusted,
appointed individuals. They aid and advise the King, performing smaller tasks that do not require his
opinion. The make-up of the council is by no means a solid thing, and varies in number and titles
held, depending on whom the monarch trusts to be part of their inner circle. It can number from
only two or three, up to double figures. Indeed, even if someone is on the council, they may not be
invited to advise upon certain occasions, where it is judged they are not necessary. In this manner,
the governance of the Kingdom is quite informal.
The following are roles that are generally assigned;
- Rìghgeard - Rules the Kingdom in the absence of a suitably aged monarch.
- Seneschal - Manages the royal household and seat (Blackstone).
- Marschal - Manages the military resources of the crown.
- Admireil - Manages the naval resources of the crown.
- Camberlain - Manages the crown’s fiscal resources, alongside trade and production.
- Lysgennad - Manages the foreign relations of the Crown, performs most diplomatic missions.
- Riagmaester - Manages the lawkeeping of the Kingdom, adjudicating in matters where the King does not.
- Ciallmhar - A title assigned to all those who do not have an official role, they merely serve to advise on any matters for which the King decides their input is valuable.
