(wow i didn't realize this was a section on the forums)

The earth beat like a massive drum, and the ground rose and fell as lungs from below breathed in the air above and exhaled a thick porous fog which blew over the land and settled like so much pollen from so many flowers. There were no more flowers to grow above the earth however, and no grass to hide the flowers amongst. There was only a thick moss which bore an appearance to grey meat spread endlessly over every spare inch of ground: from the tops of mountains to the base of valleys, and on it were a thousand million new monstrosities born each day. Malborn and horrendous, the product of nightmares which worked until they were broken until more were born exactly the same with no iterative improvements. Their bodies the product of the nightmares of every tortured artist and every horrible dream, absorbed from the minds of the incaluable dead and stolen by the entity which lived below, lacking any creative process of its own.

Their minds were not destroyed by the death of the world, they were absorbed into the mind of the being which wrought this havoc, and enslaved in the maintenance and piloting of these horrible creatures. Their mundane and humanoid bodies were not bent and broken into these new forms, they were melted into a primordial sludge and spread over the birthing pits of the horrible singular entity and grown anew in a great vat. Creatures of every horrible idle thought, creatures of every surreal artist, entities born from the barest kernel of a nightmare.

Parentless abominations of every stripe wandered the land in pursuit of more water, more flesh. The skies above were dry, every trace of a cloud squeezed of all water like so many sponges, the singular entity using the magic absorbed from the minds of those it had slain. The oceans had been bested: a thousand million minds of clever seaside villagers and townsfolk absorbed into its composite mind, and every idea they ever had for a ship brought to life in the form of a fleshy abomination which lands on distant shores and gives birth to thousands of its own dreadful young.

Everything was but one being, and the one being encompassed the entire earth: the hollow earth below its great stomach which was like a sea of acidic water, the land on which lived every beast of the earth covered entirely by the dreadful flesh, and even in the sky above the monster created massive aberrations with wings to scour the earth and hunt every last trace of avian flocks.

The whole world, subject to the dominion of a single mind, subject to a single being with a single purpose: to spread, to consume, to grow, to consume.

It was only a dream. A brief shifting of consciousness, that would be felt all across the world in random people having faint nightmares that would be impossible to differentiate from those of any other night, impossible to know the source was the entity below the earth. For a microsecond, only a piece of it awakening. But in that faintest fraction of a second, it was awake enough to dream its ultimate goal realized. It was a sweet thing, and while it had no conception of mortal conveniences like hope, in some inarticulable way it hoped it would awaken enough to fully realize it soon. If it had such elaborate fantasies in a microsecond, to be able to conceptualize every facet of it down to the single hairs on each unborn monstrosity, if it could be awake for just a few seconds it could doubtlessly set in course…
...and it was asleep again.
