Starter Quest
Hail, Wanderer! Welcome to the World of Altera! In order to familiarize you with the world and server features, we've prepared a nifty little quest to get you acquainted with the basics of the server and RP.
Make sure to read the NPC dialogue, as they provide valuable tips on how to survive and interact with the world of Altera!

When you first start out, you'll find yourself inside the Sisterhood Temple at the highest peak of a mountain grove. The Sisters of Shalherana conduct their business in these hidden temples. Gather your bearings, and look straight ahead, follow your path down to the 2nd temple tower. You should see a lapis block right in front of you.

106084106085

Make sure to left click the block to start the quest and be sure to type in "yes" in order to actually start it, and you may be on your way! Your first order of business in should be to find your way out of this place. Just continue to follow the cloud path down to the white pillars. There, you'll meet a nice elf called Mairin. Speak to her to find out where to go!

106086
Once you speak with her, you'll be directed to walk all the way down the temple, head to a small boat and sail to Storm's Landing. But to ease this process, type /spawn !

Welcome to Storm's Landing! A bumbling trading community of nobles, smiths, faithfuls and rogues. It's also the perfect place to learn about the wonders of the world of Altera! Your first task should be to find Gadifane, the resident know-it-all around docks. He can usually be found lounging straight ahead of the dock.

106087
A prompt and greeting should pop up when you get close, and you'll need to right click the man to engage in conversation. He'll redirect you straight past the bridge and into the markets, where you'll need to seek out the local tailor.

Right when you reach town, head up the path towards the market stalls and at the topmost let, that's where you should find Tiberius the Tailor. Speak with him, and he'll have you go see the town blacksmith while he stitches up a garment for you.

The Blacksmith's job is a loud one, so he operates his smith off near a beaten path, bothering the hustle and bustle of the main dock roads. Exit the tailor's shop and take a left down the main road as you head back towards the docks. You should find Ereneas the Blacksmith at his forge!

Once you get your order in to the Blacksmith, he'll send you to get your papers and documents filed and registered by Einthe. She's at the Census Office, which is right near his smithy. Go in the door opposite behind you, and she'll be attending the front desk.

As she processes your papers, Einthe will want you to head over to the ships with red sails and another with yellow sails, to report to her friend in the mines. Return to where you found the Blacksmith, but this time take the road further down, and follow the path to the other side of the docks.

In order to learn about skills, the Gerlik the Miner will instruct you to seek out Kade, an old friend who's fishing at the pier. You may walk past him and down to the end of the pier to find him staring out into the distance.

After teaching you the basics of CQC MCMMO, you'll be directed over to meet Tel'Yor, the town's resident general trader. She'll be back at the market stalls you saw near the Tailors- head all the way back over. Tel'Yor's a shrewd moor elf, and she'll be able to instruct you on how to trade and barter with the people on Altera.

There's many opportunities to make coin or go adventure in this homely port. Tel'Yor will then arrange a talk for you from here to the Dock Master! Run over to the Captain Lynette to get your tickets. His post is around the docks, between the Blacksmith and the Miner's station in front of the Tavern.

Now hurry up, you're looking for Jack the Bartender, by the way. The clothes and equipment you commissioned from the townsfolk on Port Saryn are all being looked after by him. Walk straight ahead from the docks, and enter the Inn right past Mr. Jingles. You should find Jack just behind the counter inside! Speak to him to receive your quest rewards.

Welcome to Storm's Landing! A bustling on the southeastern fringe of the New World, it is home to people of all races, cultures and creeds from across the wide world of Altera! Step in through the gate, take a deep breath, and call poison control because this place hasn't had a cleaning in the last five decades. After you get back from the emergency care center, stick in your nose plugs and stake out!

Congratulations, you've completed the Starting Quest!
You should receive:

An Iron Sword
A Stone Pickaxe
A Leather Jacket
A Saddle
A Fishing Rod
20 Emeralds
One Nickname Credit

Nicknames & Titles

Now that you've been shown the ropes, it's time to make a name for yourself. Literally.
Being that this is an RP Server, most folks desire to have a "Nickname", or a name that isn't simply their minecraft username. This is mostly because they don't want to RP someone named XxIIDeathLegionKitten894IIxX. That's just not a typical name on Altera. Instead, they might choose to have a name like John, or Daryl, or Lord Militant Attanis Arkonus IV (We call him Little A), or something of that sort. That's where the nickname functionality comes into play.

Provided you have a nickname credit, which is a reward given out at the end of the quest, you may use the following command to change your nickname.

/nick [Username] [Nickname]
Titles work in a similar manner. To change your title, type in the following command.

/title use [TitleName]

or

/title use [TitleID]
At the start, you are only limited to a selection of 10 titles, but with donations, you can unlock more! There is no cost to changing a title.

You can find a more extensive guide on these commands and more server-side plugins here!

Getting Money

If you've frisked your pockets of late you might notice you're getting a little short on change. Voting for the server on PlanetMinecraft or MinecraftMultiplayer is an excellent way to get some extra income. You can find links to both these sites on this guide or on the top tab of the HollowWorld site.

Radiants have a whole variety of uses. You may use them to purchase property, resources, brewed beverages or even equipment and special player perks and permissions. Be sure to always keep an eye on your wallet, or you might end up with nothing in it but lint.

Getting Resources
Oh, what's this? You might've noticed you can't break or place blocks down in Storm's Landing, or anywhere else in the world. In order to prevent griefing, HollowWorld has a plugin that prevents building outside of player owned regions. But don't fret, we have a world specifically designed to allow you to collect materials and enjoy good ol' Survival Minecraft. Head down to the docks at Storm's Landing, and look for the ship with black and red sails.

That ship'll transport you straight to a place known as the Sorrowlands, where you can collect all the resources you want, but be aware! The Sorrowlands are an unforgiving place, where death, destruction and dastardly betrayal run abound! Players here are free to grief, steal and kill to their heart's content, so keep your wits about you.

In fact, there's so much to do in the Sorrows, we made a guide for it. [Read it now!]

Player Interaction and Roleplay

Now, let's end by talking about the reason why most of you folks are on the server. Roleplay. And that means talking to and interacting with other players and their characters. There is a ton to cover on this topic, and we can't get to all of it on this guide. We recommend you take a thorough look through the Roleplay Guide to get a good understanding of what's standard and accepted on the server.

Roleplay can be a very difficult thing to get into, but also very fun. While everyone on HollowWorld would love to RP with you, a lot of the times they're simply caught up with something ICly or OOCly and simply don't interact with your character if they just see you standing out on the street. Which is why it's important for you to take initiative! Walk up to them and introduce your character in your own unique way. Whether it's by saying "Hello!" or trying to steal that gold watch from their pocket. Most folks on the server have a good understanding of how chat mechanics and the like work, so by sticking around people, you should be able to get a grasp of the ropes right quick.

If your actions aren't reciprocated, or you feel ignored, the most important thing is to not be discouraged. Try talking to other people in other places, or an alternate approach to interaction. Take part in events, or even plan events of your own. If you can be an active, contributing member of the community, you'll be chatting up a storm in no time!

You may also wish to take time to read up on all the lore articles, various other guides and threads all located on this website and its forums. While nothing really beats learning firsthand, you may find some of these resources invaluable as you learn more about the server and the world. Heck, some day you might even be writing help threads and guides of your own!

Lastly, it's important to remember above all else that Roleplaying is meant to be a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone. I don't think I can stress that enough. When you interact with people, please be considerate of their feelings. Don't simply make the RP enjoyable for you, make it enjoyable for all parties involved. There's a bunch of rules and etiquette on this site that basically say that to the same effect. At the end of the day, you'll have a far better time being kind rather than being a jerk. So don't be a jerk.

Any Questions?
That wraps up the basics of our server. Hopefully by now you have a good idea of how our server works, and this guide has answered whatever questions you have. If not, feel free to ask our Staff Team for help. You can identify them by the plus sign by their name. They're always happy to help answer any questions you have, or redirect you to someone who can answer those questions.

We hope to see you on Altera!
