Sugar is one commodity like any other, with most people not considering where it's from and it being bought after it's been traded amongst merchants two, maybe even three or four times before reaching their cupboard. New sugar comes into the market at regular yearly intervals, coinciding with the harvest and time it takes to refine it from raw sugarcane into something edible.
Not so this year, with the new sugar entering the market being sold in excess of 500% its regular price, far exceeding even the cost of goods refined from the sugar itself, throwing the economy for the luxury good bizarrely out of wack. Additionally, while the sugar grown in massive quantities from Palmwood (the only, and largest, sugar plantation) is typically stamped with an "F" for Fuvur, all the sugar has been repalced with the market of the Azarin bank - a compass rose, with an "A" at its center.
Some places aren't affected by the inflated sugar price. Come ask for exclusive sugar deals. Sugar is cool.
