Uriel
==================
Honour the Gods. Love your woman. Defend your country.
- Prince Hector | Troy

==================

We live in a world that is besieged at every turn. We are forced to flee to a new home and begin our lives again every few centuries. We have enemies that are so numerous that they are impossible to name. At any point, we could be under attack by a figment or titan or wracked with the consequences of a God's mistakes.
We are Alterans and we endure this fate. We fight back against the Dark and we win. None can break our spirit and none can truly beat us. We remain vigilant against our foes and avenge our fallen valiantly.

Uriel Valhart was born in Storm's Landing to a slumborn courtesan and a wandering Anhalder Knight. He was raised alone by his loving mother on stories of Great Heroes and chivalrous Knights. The virtues of dutiful service to one's neighbours and devout faith in higher powers were instilled in him from the earliest age. A wide-eyed but strongwilled boy, Uriel dreamed of being the greatest Knight that Altera would ever see. He would often be found offering his services to all who seemed in need, be that to fight away the dragons plaguing their homes or simply sweeping the winding streets between their ramshackle huts within the Slums. It was on one such adventure that he met the first of his lifelong heroes; Raalvara Varyn-now-Edelmonte. Having decided, at the age of twelve, that he would prove his worth to all of the Landing- Uriel Valhart entered a competition that he should not have (something that, upon reflection in his later years, happened many times during his youth). Despite losing the competition, he won something far greater; a mentor. For it was in Raalvara that Uriel found a tutor and a leader. She taught him that it was not a Knight that he wished to be, but a Hero. Knights were corruptable and worldly- Heroes were indefatigable and selfless. With youthful enthusiasm, Uriel hung on her every word. She not only taught him how to fight, but also how to cook and to care for his wounds. It was Raalvara who introduced the young boy to Valiant and told him of their heavenly father above. All of this whilst ensuring to never douse his childhood into something darker and more dour. It was with Raalvara that Uriel underwent his first hunt for the elusive Skyrat (an endeavour he continues to this day with children of his own) and whilst they had no luck and Raalvara was hesitant to believe their existance at all, she humoured the boy and saw to it that his childhood flourished. That was until she was forced to take her leave. With her family in tow, Raalvara left the Landing and her Blackrush Crossing to lands unknown. Uriel was to find another and continue his training without her.

It was in those years that followed Raalvara's leaving that Uriel's naïve outlook on the world was forced to meet the reality of the world rather harshly. Many times was his name placed upon the roster for some adventure or other that inevitably resulted in tragedy.
First, he joined in on the Fuvurian Emperor's Game; the whole continent was tasked with finding and subsequently killing a great beast for some reason or another. This led to the boy trudging across the sands and dunes of the far Southern deserts. He had no idea why they were there, nor what it was they had intended to hunt. All that Uriel knew was that it was a chance to prove himself. Perhaps, he had thought, that if he had shown the world what he had learned, Raalvara would return. So it was, that the expedition delved into the reaches of a forgotten desert and was met with the arrival of a multitude of Kaiser Scorpions. The gathered hunters and adventurers swelled to the challenge. Uriel stepped forth with sword and shield to defend his compatriots. Many striking blows were met by his shield but Uriel was but a boy. Eventually his arm began to tire; eventually wood began to break. It was a strike toward the Fuvurian Princess (and a future friend of Uriel's, made in no small part due to this moment) that saw Uriel's first great failure. The tail of the beast smashed through the shield and plunged into his shoulder. He was lifted into the air by its great strength. His shield arm useless- venom poured into his body. The party below worked with great speed to dispatch the foe- but Uriel was not yet finished. With the last of his energy and all of his might, his sword arm flailed at the tail and freed the stinger from the wicked body. Content with the knowledge he had fought well, Uriel closed his eyes. But the story did not end there (even if it reasonably should- as Uriel continually reflects upon to this day) for the aforementioned Fuvurian Princess took the stage. Whilst the beast succumbed to the many swords and spears- Aelyth Fuvur saw to it that Uriel's wounds were bound and the venom was stemmed. Her efforts saw him live to fight another day and it would not be long before he did exactly that.

lorence Caron-
Unchartered territory for Uriel. He’s glad to have met her and cannot wait to fulfill the promises he’s made- no one should live in fear and everyone should see what the world offers. A path that he had never thought he would go down. He is most happy.

Aryn -
While similar in many ways, they are different in far too much. Uriel considers Aryn an ally, a good man, but he is wary of the breath of the wild. Wilderness is freedom from responsibility to your fellow man. He is saddened by the sheer fact that he knows Aryn cares more for the survival of the fittest, than the survival of the many.

PASSIVE ABILITIES
[Providence]
The blessed’s soul is warded by their faith in their Divine. If something tries to possess them, or they’re targeted by an effect that is functionally identical to possession, the blessed may roll a d6 save to resist it. If they roll their tier or lower on the d6, the possession fails and has no effect. They are additionally fully immune to any attempts to lay claim to their soul (in terms of it being trapped, imprisoned, or otherwise by some entity. This is not expected to come up much in RP, but exists for flavor). For curses or afflictions like Vyrism or Spiritblessed, they may resist it outright or optionally roll a possession save against it.
[Blessed Form - Fortitude]
The blessed’s patron grants some form of enhancement to their body directly. This can be taken multiple times, but only once for each skill. Fortitude, Determination, and Awareness are universally available, and certain gods offer other options.
[Imbued Weapon]
Any weapon wielded by the blessed is touched by their Divine, imbuing it with greater ability to smite their foes. This offers no additional mechanical effect beyond causing extra damage; it’s less significant than the weapon itself, but adds enough punch to be tangible. The fire does not ignite, the poison does not kill, etc. For creatures or summons with a set number of 'hits,' it counts as dealing an additional hit.
(Valiant - Lightning)
[Blind Faith]
The blessed relies wholly and unquestioningly in their faith in times of confusion, and may substitute Soul for Mind when rolling to resist mental effects.
[Anathema]
Divine power courses in the vicinity of the blessed, scouring their non-mortal foes. Unnatural beings within five blocks that the caster is hostile to suffer as though the presence of the blessed is actively harming them, and tangibly suffer damage as such. The nature of this damage can be flavored to God; Ignis might feel like standing right against a fire and cause flesh to burn, etc. It deals about as much damage as ‘a solid but not grievous hit’ per turn; for summons or creatures with a set number of ‘hits,’ it deals the equivalent of two hits per turn. This affects extraplanar creatures such as figments and fiends, supernatural creatures such as ghosts, and magical or otherwise unnatural constructs such as undead, elementals, and summoned creatures. It does not apply any physical condition other than harm; it doesn’t physically ignite anything, etc.
[The Warlord's Favour]
During times of active combat or quiet meditation Uriel's form seems to at times have the appearance of mortal-sized depiction of a member of the Court of Conflict superimposed onto his own, only to return to his former visage with a mere blink or so. This assumed appearance, if amoured, is ethereal and can be passed through without resistance to hit whatever Uriel truly wears beneath. The identity of the Court member who Uriel comes to depict is decided based upon the nature of his mood or the combat in which he is engaged. Allies may feel bolstered by this depiction whilst enemies might be startled or consider him more dangerous or frightening than others.

TYPE
ABILITIES
Endless Crusade
Divine Artifact[PASSIVE]: The fury of the continent's storms breaks upon the wielder; they are untouched by strong winds as though shielded from them, and can move through them unimpeded.
[ABILITY - VIGILANCE]: The polearm is known to conform to whichever shape the bearer wills out of the following options; poleaxe, javelin, spear, throwing axe or arming sword. This process takes a turn of combat or five seconds outside of combat.
[ABILITY - RESURGENCE]: The polearm, or whatever form it has been willed to take, can be returned at will to Uriel's hand with a clap of thunder. This process takes a turn of combat or five seconds outside of combat.
Shield of ValorDivine Trinket[Effect] The shield radiates a sense of importance and history. Sometimes, one can find their thoughts drifting to think of the exploits it has seen.
Hourglass of RahasDivine Trinket[Effect] It can precisely measure out the passing of ten minutes to the second.
Battle MapDivine Trinket[Effect] When laid upon a table, it shows the outline of a field in black. Two coloured pieces appear in an illusion- blue for allies, red for foes, able to be moved at the will of the holder. The locations of these pieces are only set based on what the user knows, not revealing anything that they would not know.
Bloodied CoinCommonplace Relic[Effect] Once picked up it 'attunes' to the individual. The coin instils a sense of greed and bloodlust in them, slowly bringing upon nightmares of conflict and bloodshed the longer it is not satiated. It will always find its way back to the attuned even if 'destroyed'.

Justice is the constant and perpetual will to render to each their due.

If you cannot tell innocent from monster, then slay neither, and protect all so long as they are of the same spirit as you.

The world may be dark, but the light of you and yours shines within it, and I shall forgive your wavering faith.

Remember that loyalty and bravery are one in the same. As long as you are loyal to me and to honor, you will always be brave, even if you're afraid.

I will be there for you.

You are right to fear wrath, my son. The path to injustice begins at righteous belief in one's own anger. Yet your resolve mustn't falter.

Self doubt and fear are the enemy of courage and must be overcome as any other foe.

There are none to prove your own worth to but yourself.

Act in strength and with honor.

In a post I should've made the other day, Uriel has since gained the following items:
  • A Greatsword made of Steel - Tourseuse | Supposedly forged from meteorite steel dating back to the Northern Kingdoms.
  • A modified Halberd - Render | A darkened steel polearm.
  • A heavy Crossbow - Legend | Modified to hold specificly heavy bolts.
  • A Steel Dane-Axe - Valor | A Great Dane-Axe that was supposedly crafted with the God Crusade close by.
  • Set of Plate Armour - Nameless | Ornate and intricate in its detailing, the armour bears strikes and signs of battle damage.
  • A Sanguine Cloak - Nameless | Supposedly made from drakehide with Gryphon talons for its clasps.

Let it be known, the lands and foothills surrounding the Valsaddle to the South of the Blackrush Crossing are henceforth declared independent from any sovereign nation. This Valiant Theocratic holding, residing in what shall be known as the Hartlands, answers only to the Will of the Crusader, for He is their patron.

With this claim of land and declaration of independence, it should be noted that no titles or claims to nobility are made. This land is held not for hereditary succession, nor for personal glory, it is held for the faithful of Valiant so they may have a suitable place to honour him.

Remain Vigilant.

Uriel is claiming that the lands within the red limits above are part of an independent theocratic settlement that answers only to Valiant and not to Blackrush or any other political entity.
