About Your Character!
This section is about the character you intend to use once you join the server. We ask that new players follow these guidelines during this portion of the application:
  • Characters begin with basic skills and gear. No advanced armor or weaponry. Skills and abilities are appropriate to a novice level. Skills should be learned through roleplay, not through backstory.
  • Characters fit the lore. If you choose to play as a Moor Elf, for example, we expect appearance and details to be fitting with base lore.
  • Characters cannot use magic in any way. The test itself should not mention magic either. HollowWorld uses a restricted magic system and it is only accessible to those who find and learn from a teacher in-game.
  • Tests should not be violent. No murder, killing, death, torture. In the past, 8 out of 10 applications featured characters fighting off bandits or slaying passersby. We don't want to see how well you can script a fight scene. We want to see how well you can tell a story, how well you can roleplay.
  • Be creative and be original. Do not use tests/characters whose home villages were burned, parents murdered, and then set off to be an orphan assassin. It has been done before. Please don't do it again.
  • Written portion of the test is required to be a 400 word minimum. If the test doesn't meet the minimum, Staff may ask you to extend the test before the application is considered.
You can remove the guidelines above when you're copy and pasting the application. The instructions above are for you to read and can be removed when applying.

Current Setting of the Server:

The lands of Altera have long been laced with upheaval, supernatural turmoil that would threaten to shatter the realm or tear it asunder. Long, have the peoples of Altera withstood these tribulations, overcoming and persevering through the generations. Only too recently, have they settled the ire of Titans and Gods. Though the days were dark and long, the realm did survive, through tenacity and reverence. The memories of their trials behind them still fresh, the realm sits in a state of unease and angst . . . with eyes on the horizon.

In the skies above, the stars flicker and burn across the auburn colors of the setting sun, streaks of color in the gathering dark. The Realm of Altera awaits . . .

Paxedes walks alone in the blistering heat of the desert. The journey from his village to the trade outpost is short but very laborious. Behind him drudging in the sand is his family camel, almost packed to heavily with bags and baskets to bring the supplies back home. The camel groans in protest as Paxedes begins to lead her at a faster pace. “Stay strong, Christa.” Paxedes says soothingly to the tired animal. As an hour goes by, the sight of a caravan gathered around an oasis comes to view. With little conversation, radiants are exchanged and supplies are given. Paxedes rests in the shade of a tree as Christa drinks from the oasis. Paxedes breathes deeply and smiles, taking a moment of relaxation. Paxedes begins to take his leave with Christa, but the wind furiously picks up. Paxedes pulls his sarik over his face and eyes, silently cursing. A sudden sandstorm violently forms. This journal will not be as trivial as he hoped. Paxedes has two options, journey to the village through the storm, home in time for his family’s prayer to Shalherana, at the risk of losing supplies in the storm. Or, sit out the storm overnight with the caravan and perform an improvised prayer with outsiders. After quick conversation with the caravan, Paxedes finds shelter in one of the trading carts they generously lent to him to use. Peering outside the hooded cart, the storm makes the early evening appear as dark as night. Paxedes takes an amulet from his neck, a leafless tree carved from wood, and grasps it in both hands as he bows and recites praises to Shalherana. His prayer lsat for near half an hour, and he spends the rest of his time looking at the violently shifting sand, coursing through the air. Though he’s seen it before, the sight of the sunset’s light through the sand always feels mystical to him, like the art of the gods. As the sun fully set Paxedes smiles and lies down to rest. Paxedes is woken to the voices of the caravan rousing, ready to move to the next site. He gives them a word of thanks and checks on Christa. The camel, who laid down beside the cart during the night looks to Paxedes. He pets her head and neck and begins his journey home. Life in the desert isn’t all that bad, with the guidance of Shalherana, the most desolate regions can bring happiness.
