Hollow World Builds, Code of Conduct

Hollow World is a Medieval/Fantasy RP server. We encourage people to show off their creativity and building skills, but we also encourage people to build for a reason. We want people to think of why they making their builds, think of a backstory. When a new player comes to visit your town we don't want them to just walk into a square cobblestone castle without a story. We want them to be in awe of your building style (whatever that may be) and to be fascinated by the stories surrounding your castle.

Buildings on our server are meant to be in medieval/fantasy style. Roughly speaking, the middle ages are a rather long period from 500 to 1500. Think of what, how and why people would build in these times. This means you don't make a 5 story apartment flat out of wood and cobble and call it 'medieval'. Look through some pictures to get some inspiration, type on google what you want to build and look for examples. Builds can crossover into what is considered the 'early modern' period, there were for examples a lot of palaces built in this period. These would be perfectly fine on our server.

We do however run the fantasy twist on this server. This means you can bring in fantasy elements into your builds, just aslong as they stick to a medieval 'feel'. Think of Lords of the Rings, Games of Thrones, The Elder Scrolls etc. . Don't think of World of Warcraft. On our server things have to be more realistic. This means no floating island powered by a single magic obsidian block. This means you can make an elven forest, dwarven mine or hobbit village. But not an obsidian floating evil wizards tower of doom. I think you get the point.

If you are in doubt feel free to ask any of the staff to verify your building plans.

In order maintain a real RP feeling to our server and to keep the areas between builds clean and avoid deserted buildings everywhere, we have disabled to ability to build in the wilderness. But don't fret ! All your building needs will be met, you just need to take a second to learn how this works.

First of all not building in the wild does not mean you can no longer mine ores or chop trees. You still can ! We are only disabling the placement of most blocks. Dirt, sand and gravel can still be placed if you need to plug a leak or cover up your mine. Dirt is there to fill up holes you created and not for houses. Clean up after yourself. You can still go out and gather up your resources and you can still place torches, chests etc. Mining operations are not hampered by this.

The first thing you need to do when you come on our server is find a place to live. Living in the slums of Port Silver is fun and all, but we all need a place of our own. For most people, especially when they start, it is best to look for an established town to join. Look at the list of towns in Altera Census and see if you can find one that fits your taste, and your RP character. On the details about joining a town I would like to refer you to the Towny, resident guide.

If however you feel up to the task and wish to find a place out there in the wild and start up your town you can do that. You will need to gather up your friends and pool together 50,000 silver to start up your town. Also you will need be of Noble rank or higher. You can become a Noble by donating 5 pounds, or by purchasing it off a King for 50,000 silver. Most important of all, think of what you are building. Try to find a spot that would really fit well into what you have in mind. Try to think of a backstory to your town and think of an art-style your town is going to be built in. Make sure the residents in your town follow your style and plan out what your town is going to look like. Just because towny follows a grid pattern doesn't mean your town needs to be square. Be creative about your builds and soon enough more people will flock to your town ! Be sure to read up on the towny guides to learn up on how to start a town.

For respected builders we can allow special permission to build projects outside their towns. These would either be work commissioned by a member of the crown, or a project started up by one or several individuals themselves. Players that feel like they can contribute to the server by building something beautiful, something that adds RP potentional or something that would just generally be a good addition to our world and server, can apply for special permission for this. Please check the relevant subforum for this.
