I was one of the people that argued for its removal and this thread is the perfect example of why I argued for it. Every person that's disagreed with the removal has had to post a reasoned response as to why they disagree, facilitating discussion in a way the disagree button never did. The disagree button never added anything to discussion, and was being abused. This way, people can disagree in a way that furthers discussion, not discourages people to pariticpate.

Then we're letting a tiny minority decide the actions of the entire forum base. A rather flawed argument.
Society has to trudge alongside the tiny minority, that's just life.

If we're really getting into it, do any of the buttons have a purpose that a forum post can't accomplish just as well?
Well, yes actually. All of the buttons serve a purpose. That purpose is so others may easily judge how their community reacts to the post. If a post gains a large amount of likes, well then it's clear that the community enjoys this content. It also vastly reduces the spam on the site. Instead of just posts saying

"I enjoy long the character profile system in Hollowworld"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"
"I like this"

We have the one post saying
"I enjoy long the character profile system in Hollowworld"
9 people like this

The same argument can be said for any positive rating. The reason that the same can't be said for negative ratings, is the simple fact that people do not have to explain why they accept or enjoy something, unless that something is controversial. If you go against the flow of something, expect to explain why. However, if it's a general consensus that "This is shockingly bad", everyone need not explain why. Only a select few must

Now I do not have to fear that I accidently press the disagree button
WHAT WILL I DO NOW?
I NEED THAT CHANCE OF FAILURE!

It's hard to hate someone when you realise that the two of you both use your leisure time to pretend to be medieval people in a childrens game.

Once you realise you're playing a children's game you stop taking it all so seriously and can laugh at those who do take it too seriously.

Oh my god, the political correctness cesspool this place is slowly drifting into... I though removing the ability to express our dislike was already a lot, but now we /can't even disagree?/

Also, the argument of ''oh, but people will instead go through spending their precious time explaining every little detail of why they disagree in a fullblown post'' is rather horrible; We can all already guess that forcing people to do that will only further push people from actually expressing their opposing opinions in the long term, further degrading this place into an objective forums into a love contest.

Just now, reading through the last 4 pages of this thread, i've had to resist the urge of punching my computer screen several times, due to being unable to express my blatant disagreement with some opinions...
