Lord of Altera
The History:
The Valorians are an ancient race of humans. Their major attribute is the ability to use Light Magic. This was what could be used to tell the difference between a Valorian and a regular human back in the days. Legend has it that a great Valorian warrior known as Sigmund begged the Gods for the power to vanquish Altera of demons. This needed to be done in order to make the place habitable for humans to survive. Sigmund was granted new eyes with which to seek and hunt demons. But most importantly of all he was given Light Magic. Not just any kind of magic but a special kind with which to vanquish demons. He named it Holy Magic, although it is commonly known as Valorian Magic.
After accomplishing the task of slaying demons, he settled down to build a family. A messenger of the Gods was sent to inform him that the demons would only return in the near future. Sigmund then knew that his descendants would bring Altera to peace. Thus Sigmund became the father of the powerful Valorian race. In order for one to be married or included into the race he/she must be of virtue and posses a unique ability or traits. One must be chosen carefully because of the great powerr that resides within the bloodline. Later on as the Valorians grew into a more powerful race they were very famous throughout Altera. They were called upon by Kings and Lords to vanquish their territory of demons. Sometimes Valorians even participated in epic wars, although they usually refrained from butting into other human affairs. The golden age of the Valorians did not last and their race slowly began to die down. Their efforts had caused Altera to be demon-free for a while and their powers were deemed useless by the rest of the world. Rather than resorting to other humans getting hold of this power; Valorians slowly stopped using it, in a effort to get Altera to forget about it. After a long time everyone forgot about the Valorians.
Only a few remain in Altera. They can be recognized by their eyes. The sapphire hue of their eyes. They are very secretive and usually live in forests and mountains. But, Altera has begun to see a rise in demons and maybe someday their powers will once again be needed.
Their Traits:
Many Valorians were mixed with other humans of Altera although they were strictly suppose to keep the bloodline exclusive. The fact of the matter was that the Valorians decided to bring only those who were worthy into the bloodline. Therefore a Valorian mother would marry a great warrior or magician. Perhaps an Elven lord. Usually these men or women possessed honorable traits. They were treated like all other Valorians as if they were of pureblood. So you may find some Valorians with many different colored hair and skin, and size. But there are a few traits that are dominant. The bloodline causes certain traits to appear in Valorian children no matter what.
- They were very athletic. Simply because only those who were worthy could be allowed to affect the bloodline. This included athleticism. Eventually this led to the later generations be the healthiest of them all.
- They all possessed their Valorian Eyes, those eyes that glowed with the color of sapphires.
- They all had light magic running in their veins.
- Many of them had really white hair. This was not always the case of course, but usually this would give away a Valorian before their eyes did.
- They all had a Valorian Family Crest. Within the Society people would keep track of Valorians and what ancestors they had by tattooing crests onto their babies' bodies. Usually the crest would also contain magical properties that helped the children to control their magic at an even earlier age. It would also keep the magic from leaking from their bodies. Without the crest Valorians would glow as light escaped their bodies. Sigmund created the Valorian crest by consulting a diety on the topic. He wanted Valorians to seem as mere humans. Otherwise they would be feared. Only a master tattoo artist who knew the dimensions of the crest could apply one to the the skin. Not only is the crest physical. But once completed it would be enchanted with a special spell that was given to Sigmund from the diety. This kept the outsiders from trying to mimic the crest for whatever purpose.
