I see a tomb, in the dim light of my torch.
An ancient room, I feel an intruder, standing on its porch.
Eager to know more, I dare to step inside.
The bones are stored, here at the end of my ride.

Letters hewn in the stone do not fade,
he lays here who sat on a throne, Dwarven made.
I put my conscious aside as I crack open his coffin.
I reach far inside, stealing from this long gone king.

I touch no cold material, like gold or gems.
This king's burial was entirely without them.
No crown adorns his head, no rings around his fingers.
He lies here dead, to a sole book he clings.

"HOMMAGE TO THE KING UNDER THE RUIN" I read, as I blow off the dust.
I light the torches for to better see, next to this coffin's bust.
The spiderwebs snap as it opens and my eyes shoot over a page.
secrets, hidden treasures, that's for what I hope, in my eager rage.

But I'm met with a very unkingly story to behold.
The tales inside vary, from warm friendship to ale cold.
Like a massive journal of someone over two centuries old.
I will read it all, let the tale of times gone past unfold.

After reading all about this king, I sighed.
Then I heard something ring, and saw it in the torch's light.
Out of the book fell a coin of gold, attached to a note.
The letters half faded and old, yet I could still read what he wrote.

"UNCO BABIN,
A FRIEND, THAT IS WHAT HE WAS AND WILL ALWAYS REMAIN IN THE HEARTS
OF THE ONES WHO KNEW HIM. UNCO BABIN... I'M ABOUT TO TELL YOU THE STORY
OF GROMM WAKE II. NOT A COMPLETE STORY, BUT THE STORY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE
OF A FRIEND... OF ME, KRUMMI."

I notice now the part the coin fell out of, so unexpected.
He held it on top of the book in cloth, under his hand it rested.
This king was buried, this note pressed to his heart.
I am worried, who is Gromm? Where to start?!

"I MET GROMM DURING AN EVENT, WHERE HE JOINED THE SIDE OF THE
DWARVES OF YEARNEN. AFTER THAT, WE WENT TO THRAALL. GROMM NEVER
WAS THE AVERAGE DWARF. HE WAS UNPREDICTABLE, FAST, SENSITIVE, FELL
IN LOVE EASILY, GOT HIMSELF INTO TROUBLE EVEN MORE EASILY!"

Suddenly it dawns to me, that name "Wake".
It's him, it's got to be! This increases the stakes!
I found written proof of his legendary existence.
Time to read on and move, shorten the torch's light's distance.

"THOUGH HE HAD ONE VERY FINE CHARACTERISTIC THAT ALL GOOD
DWARVES HAVE: ONCE BEFRIENDED, YOU COULD COUNT ON HIM FOR
THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, OR HIS...

HE AND I HAVE BEEN ON A FEW ADVENTURES. SAVING EACH OTHER AND
BACKING EACH OTHER UP IN FIGHTS AGAINST ELVES OR OTHER DWARVES.
GROMM WAKE II HAD A FAMILY-CURSE, WHICH WAS ALSO A BLESSING.
FOR WHEN HE DIED, HE WOULD JUST DWELL AROUND LIKE A GHOST UNTIL
HE FOUND A SORCERER TO PUT HIS GHOST BACK INTO HIS BODY. THIS FACT
MADE GROMM VERY RECKLESS AND IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE HE WAS
PUSHED OFF THE GREAT BRIDGE OF THRAALL AND 'DIED' AGAIN. THE REASON
FOR HIS TRUE DEATH IS UNKNOWN TO ME THOUGH...
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE HE IS BURIED."

A first eye witness of Gromm's miracle life.
This note is a bless, to an end is my strife!
I must go now and tell the world about this
and off I go somehow, out of here, back home, that is...

Now that I'm home and told the world of the news,
let me read on slow, and find out more, perhaps clues.
I want to know, I'm so eager to know more.
Let this note show me the ancient lore.

"THERE IS SOMETHING GROMM HAS TRIED TO TEACH ME. TO
MAKE AS MANY FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE AND TO NEVER STAY IN
ONE PLACE TOO LONG. HE NEVER COULD CONVINCE ME TO
DO THAT SECOND THING, THOUGH. BUT GROMM... HE HAS BEEN
A PIRATE, DWARF, ELF-LOVER, GHOST, THIEF, EXPLORER, AND
ADVENTURER. I PROBABLY DIDN'T EVEN MENTION HALF THE
THINGS HE'S BEEN!

GROMM HAS HELPED ME TO START LOCUN. HE HAS GOT THE
TONGUE OF A MONKEY, BUT THE BRAINS OF A SCIENTIST! HE
HAS HAD MANY GREAT IDEAS THAT MADE LOCUN PROGRESS
WITH BIG STEPS."

This legendary Dwarf of old, even gets a king's praise.
But where are the treasures of gold? is a question I raise.
Please do tell me, oh worthy note that here lies.
As long as I can see, before my candle dies...

"NOW HE IS DEAD. I KNOW HE LOOKS AT ME FROM HIS SEAT, NEXT
TO KOROG. AND HE WILL KNOW MY THOUGHTS ABOUT HIM AND
WILL HOPEFULLY BE GRATEFUL FOR THE MONUMENT I INTENT TO
ERECT IN HIS NAME IN AEROCH NOR.

DEAR READER, GROMM WAKE II WAS MORE THAN JUST A DWARF.
YOU WILL FIND HIS TRACKS ALL OVER ALTERAN HISTORY IF YOU
JUST LOOK CLOSE ENOUGH. IF YOU REALLY LOOK FOR IT, YOU MIGHT
FIND VALUABLE ADDITIONS FROM HIM ANYWHERE YOU GO, IN ANYONE YOU MEET."

My word! I must go out there!
Into the world, explore and tread with care.
From deepest tomb to the highest peak of the mountain.
Until I bathe in golden rooms and gem fountains.

(The book "unco babin" is an actual vanilla book in MC that I wrote years ago. The rhyme that accompanies it is my interpretation of how a new player could be exploring and find this book and is intrigued by the history and clues that it contains. I hope you like it! All the stuff written in capital letters is truthful, from RP that truly happened, Gromm was an actual player. (guess back in the day some things were allowed that aren't anymore :p ). thanks for having a read!)
