Character Profile - Genoz Shortseer

Frostyvamp

I think I might like it here
Name: Genoz Short-seer (Surname given to him by his adoptive parents, may later choose another)
Nickname/Alias: Tomekeeper Genoz
Age: 18 (Perceived as roughly 45 by humans)
Gender: Male
Race: Greyling
Height: 1.4m (4'7")
Weight: 32.2kg (71lb)
Hair: A long braid of white hair
Eyes: Dark grey
Skin: Pale green-grey
Identifying Marks: Right eye is destroyed, amulet is engraved with his parent's initials.
Appearance: A relatively tall greyling with pale green-grey skin, he wears a tattered academic’s robe, a white woolen tunic underneath, old leather shoes, and a pair of dark grey trousers. He has an eyepatch covering his missing right eye, and wears a silver amulet in the shape of a crescent moon.
Strengths: Has an extensive knowledge of books after working with them for so long. His hearing is surprisingly sensitive, and is thought to be a gift from She who is beyond names, to balance out his poor vision. He is a well-practiced climber, having spent most of his young life in a cave library fetching long-forgotten books.
Weaknesses and fears: Spiders terrify him, and are the subject of many failed contraptions designed to efficiently kill them. He has very little aptitude for fighting, mainly because he is short-sighted, and thus avoids situations where violence is probable.
Religion and cults: Worships She who is beyond names, the goddess of his profession.
Profession: Scholar, amateur inventor.
Backstory: Arriving soon (hopefully).
Following Davy's trend for Greyling aging in the hope that it is made official

Growing up in the higher caverns of Vraal Drukan with an old couple who claimed to be his parents, Genoz led a plain, honest (as honest as a greyling can be, that is) life.
He worked in the Ravine of Knowledge-a giant valley filled with books-with his father, who was a supervisor there.
Life carried on like this for several years, with Genoz learning what he could from random books on the cliffs, and his father teaching him to read and write.
Unexpected things happened one night (or was it day? It always was a confusing matter in the city), though, as a large cave spider crept into the Ravine. Genoz's father, Genoz (The name was a tradition in the family, passed down from father to son), was sent to deal to it.
Genoz (the elder, that is) was a poor fighter, however, and a clumsy attack left him off balance as the spider pounced.
With Genoz (the elder) dead, the spider turned to Genoz (the younger) next. He was as poor a fighter as his father, but as he blindly(short-sightedly, to be accurate) brandished the crude dagger kept in a sheath on his boot, he was lucky enough to wave it in the way of the spider's pounce, burying it in the spider's body.
Momentum kept its grip on the spider, however, and it arrived at its destination with enough force to drive a fang into Genoz's right eye, destroying it.
With his father dead and his mother too old to work, Genoz had to carry on his work, despite the fact that he was still recovering from the fight, and look after his mother.
Eventually, the stress grew too much, and on the way home from work, Genoz visited one of the city's shadier apothecaries.
That night, Genoz slipped a lethal dose of poison into the soup he had prepared his mother, then excused himself early and started packing his few belongings up, preparing for the move to the overworld.
