Elementals

The existence of Elementals has long influenced Altera and the mortals that populate it. These primordial beings of nature itself exist in a variety of shapes and sizes, able to manifest and control the facet of nature they encompass. They have been known throughout Alteran history by different names; Genius Loci, Elementals and Nature Spirits. They often take the form of an avatar when they seek to commune or even conflict with mortals.

The four most common elementals that people may come across are the following:

Earth: Found amid boulders and large stone formations such as mountains, Earth
Elementals never leave the stone to which they have bonded.

Fire: Found in the bonfires and forest fires of the world, Fire Elementals can seem
intense and destructive. By their nature, their appearances are often fleeting. For
it may only manifest for as long as the element of fire is still aflame.

Air: Found in gusts of wind and tornadoes, Air Elementals are the freest and most
kinetic of the Elementals, as they have no single, static place and are always drifting
across Altera.

Water: Found amid winding rivers, lakes and oceans alike, the Water Elementals
are free roaming like their cousins. However, they are limited to the bodies of water
that make up the seas and waters of Altera.

Elementals exist in both the physical and planar realms simultaneously but they can only manifest in areas where their element is concentrated. A bonfire, a gust of wind, a large boulder, or a pond could house an elemental, but anything less would not be sufficient. These Elementals are then able to grow in size in direct correlation to the size of the representation of their element they currently inhabit or by consuming other, lesser, Elementals.

There are five common classifications for Elemental sizes in Altera, they are:
The examples given are not exclusive and are merely to give an idea of size.

Royal Elementals: These Elementals are so vast they inhabit swathes of the
continent; such as entire mountain ranges for an Earth Elemental.
Examples: Sea of Storms, Shoreless Gulf

Princely Elementals: Just shy of the largest Elementals, they generally inhabit
the likes of a mountain for an Earth Elemental.

Lordly Elementals: Large Elementals, they are capable of manifesting larger
forms from their place; such as rolling foothills for an Earth Elemental.

Noble Elementals: A step above Fledgeling, Noble Elementals of Earth are
able to manifest their will into hills and hillocks.

Fledgeling Elementals: A minor Elemental, generally they encompass the
smallest form of their type, such as a larger boulder for an Earth Elemental.

Note: These spirits are challenging. Landing a hit on an Elemental is difficult for the average mortal. One true method of striking is with a Spiritual Weapon by a Blessed. But there are various methods out there to interact with one for any type of figure, depending on the element. More clarification is written on their Lore.

The stats for these vary as the average group of mortals will find it very hard to physically combat them on their own. Other clever indirect methods are recommended, or the tried and true method: flight.
