Birthplace: Halbed
History: The unexpected daughter of a sailor and a Lady who only married to protect the latter’s name. Her mother once lived a life of comfortable luxury but was disowned when she got pregnant and moved to live with the sailor in near poverty in Halbed. Needless to say, it was a bit of a shock to her, and she grew to resent Mercy’s existence, blaming her for this change in lifestyle. Her father was not around much, always out sailing, but on one of his visits home when Mercy was about 6, Vera was conceived. As they were married and lived together then, this daughter was a lot less of a stain on their lives and they grew to love her. She was given opportunities Mercy was not given, and she hated her for it. Mercy started falling in with a nasty crowd, getting in trouble just so someone would pay attention to her, but Vera was excelling in her education and so she was easily overlooked. Then, out of nowhere, her mother met a noble elvish man who promised to give her comfortable life back. She did not think twice, abandoning her children to go be a rich housewife. Their father returned to find her gone, and as Mercy was the only one there to explain she became the focal point of his anger. At the age of 15 she was told to get out.
She began travelling and, despite being around some not so nice people, her life got much easier after this. She finally found some happiness in her independence, picking up odd jobs as a mercenary type and earning just enough to eat, sleep and drink. But after a couple years she heard news that her father had been lost at sea and that her 11 year old sister was alone. Mercy returned to Halbed to collect Vera, and despite a rocky start, they fell into an odd sort of friendship. Mercy had long since realised her sister was not to blame for how things were, and so had already moved past her hatred. Vera never really understood why Mercy hated her but she soon realised why and forgave her. They became a travelling, adventuring duo, escaping on any outing they could get to with Vera researching anything they came across and Mercy killing anything that got in their way.
