CONVERGENCE

The veil between planes is a tenuous construct, tense as a cloth stretched across all of reality. In places it is thin, frayed, a minute tear away from spilling untamed magics into the mortal realms. Regions where the veil is worn experience phenomena inconsistent with mortal logic, ranging from minor oddities to perilous events. Its effects are myriad, as unpredictable and unbound as the magic it radiates. Some manifest as perversions of natural events, tainting the weather and land. Some manifest as unbound change, mutating matter and life alike. Some manifest as destruction, scouring whatever they touch.

Planar convergence is the mostly-blank-cheque for events to gain an element of ‘weird;’ mutated animals, unusual magical phenomena, unusual magical threats, anything that fits the bill of being esoteric and existentially terrifying.

Planar Convergence is a value tracked per geographic region on the map, in the same way as undead are. A high Planar Convergence value increases the chance of unusual background events happening passively, and can be used by event DMs to cause mischief. Certain events, such as activity from significant extraplanar entities, can cause it to increase. It decreases slowly over time.
