Restructuring the lore

As many of you will have noticed Fitz has begun restructuring the lore with a team of people. Some of you might be confused or scared by new rules and regulations so I want to take the opportunity to clear a few things up.

Who the **** is fitz !?
Fitz is our loremaster and he has been with the server for many, many months. He wrote the original lore for the server. However he's getting married this month and moved to a new house, both at the same time. This cut down the time he could work on the lore and be on our server to basically zero since he didn't have access to stable internet or a computer while he moved out of his old house - he also had other things on his mind anyway having to plan his wedding.

He has found time in his schedule now that they are at his future inlaw's and when he came back he was offered the opportunity to restructure and streamline the lore he once set out to create so many months ago. This was because in the time he was away we hadn't moved forward very much with the lore. He gladly took up this role, a role that would cost him a lot of time.

Why are we restructuring the lore?
As a roleplay server we want to scale up the quality of roleplay but for that we require a coherent and structured lore. The lore as it was before Fitz came back was scattered and hard for people to understand how their character should fit into this world. We are not seeking to control player's choices and roleplay directions but we must have a structure for players to hook into so the lore can truly keep on growing and prosper.

But why are certain players being denied their roleplay?
When you build a house you first must put down the foundations, the rest comes after. So too with the lore, we need to build a solid base first before we expand. This goes especially for such realms as the gods and the races. Additionally some things were really getting out of hand; an example is the Vyres. The Vyres started out as a simple concept created by James Longstreet with some alterations made by me, however as time passed the Vyres started gaining more and more abilities from fangs, to wings to extraordinary smell and sight. I know it's not fair to call out names, but this is just used as an example. This doesn't mean that Vyre was the only one nor that this happened to every entity - but the premise is the same. These ideas are not bad ones but they get out of hand. I don't think a couple of bad roleplayers should ruin it for the rest, but we must set boundaries so that things stay fair and fun for everybody's roleplay.

As stated we are building the foundations first with a small team of people. Out of necessity there is little space for anything outside of the basics. We are not throwing away everything other players have written, for example we are using the dwarf lore Tangerine has written, and the magic lore that was written for the university by various people. There are many people contributing.

After the foundations however there is room for expansion, hollowworld has always been about the community and we are not turning a blind eye to that. We just need to channel the efforts of the community properly to keep the lore strong and comprehensible and the roleplay fun and good.

Remember that everything we have always done is in the best interest of the server and to keep on improving on the quality you have come to expect from us. There is a little spark of magic in our community and server, we want to try and capture that and nourish it. Just hang on while we are working hard on the lore.
