Vandraymen, The Assassin of the Night

Vandraymen

Legend of Altera
Name: Van Draymen
Nickname/Alias: Van, Draymen, or Quick-blade
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Height: Six foot two
Weight: 180 pounds
Hair: Dark blond
Eyes: Blood Red
Skin: Caucasian, but with a tanned tone.
Identifying Marks: His blood red eyes shine when in the dark, striking fear into anyone who sees them
Appearance: Tall, big boned and muscular, and never looks very friendly.

Strengths: Van Draymen's primary strength is the darkness of the night. He becomes much quicker at night, which assists him when he is sneaking around, finding helpless victims and ending their lives with one quick slash to the throat with his dagger. During the day, however, he relies on his brute strength and size if need be.

Weaknesses and fears: Van Draymen is no where near as powerful as he should be during the day. He is not as quick or stealthy when the sun is shining down on him, and he also can not see as well because of his eyes. His only fear is flames/lava, because the brightness hurts his eyes which can greatly weaken him.

Religion and cults: Van Draymen's only religion is his faithfulness to the darkness that falls every night.

Profession: During the day, Van Draymen stays inside for the most part to keep out of the sunlight, but he has been known to accept contracts to end the life of someone, for a price of course. At night is when he goes out and performs these deadly actions.

Vandraymen

Legend of Altera
The story of Van Draymen is one that few know. He is indeed a human being, he is in no way an immortal or any other sort of race, he just has special "abilities". When he was born, his eyes were pure white, and his skin was almost just as white. His parents feared that he was some kind of demon born, so they left him out in the wilderness to die.

Cold rain poured down on the infant Van, soaking his cold, pale skin, already threatening his time to live. A strange hooded figure was wandering through the woods and hear the cries of the baby, and when the figure found Van, they brought him under their cloak and kept him warm while they walked down a old cobblestone path, and into a small wooden home.

The hooded figure was the same as Van, he too was born with white eyes and pale skin, but as he grew older, his eyes turned blood red and his skin got darker, just as Van's did once he reached the age of ten. The hooded figure began to teach Van the ways of the assassin, teaching him different assassination techniques, and how to leave no evidence behind.

Then the time had come, the hooded figure had said to Van,

"You do not remember that cold, rainy night ... but your parents, your true parents, left you out to die, because they thought you were a freak."

This angered Van, his blood boiled beneath his skin with rage, his eyes erupted with hatred. The hooded figure leaned over to Van and whispered into his ear ...

"Your parents ... they live but a stones throw away from this very place ... by the river underneath the tall oak tree. Go show them what they have cre-..."

Before the hooded figure could finish, Van quickly unsheathed his dagger, and spun around to cut the throat of his mentor. The hooded figure that had taught him so much, now lay in a puddle of his own blood.

Before Van set off onto his journey to seek revenge, he stood outside the home he grew up in, and stared at the one single torch that was outside the home. He squinted his eyes, because the light had hurt them, and he grabbed the torch, then held it against the hay that was used as the roof for the home. The hay caught fire, so Vandraymen laid the torch on the ground next to the home, setting the grass on fire as well. He turned around, and started to walk towards the river where the hooded figure said his parents would be, as the crackling of the fire burned the home he once lived in, and his mentor with it...

To be continued.

Vandraymen

Legend of Altera
The sky was dark, and the smell of burning wood filled Van's nostrils as he made his way down the cobblestone path to the sound of a flowing river. He did not know much about his parents, all he knew was that once he found them, the last thing they would see would be the son they left to die. The bright full moon shined down onto Van's face, making his eyes glisten and shine bright. The light of the moon did not effect his vision as much as sunlight or fire, however, because the dark sky countered the effects of the brightness.

Van made his way to the river, and stood on the sandy bank that lined the clear flowing water. Across the river was the tall oak tree his mentor had told him about, and the only way across was through the water. He scanned the river and found a large rock in the middle of the water, slightly tipped to the side, but it would provide for a good platform to jump onto.

Van lined his body up with the stone, then took a few steps back and took a deep breath. He positioned himself, then sprinted at the stone, jumped once he reached the sandy bank, and landed on the stone, which started to roll underneath him. He then quickly jumped again, kicking the stone from under his feet, and reached up to grab one of the branches on the tall oak tree, then let himself fall to the ground and landed on his feet.

Off in the distance, Van saw a dim light from a wooden figure. He knew instantly that it was from the home of his "parents", so he unsheathed his blade and made his way down the path to the home. The wind was blowing hard and his skin was chilled, but he was ready for what he had been wanting to do for years. After a few minutes of walking slowly, he reached the old wooden door that stood between Van and his parents.

Van pounded his fist against the door hard, and then the door slowly opened, and a tall man stood in front of him with a dazed look on his face. He looked right into Van's eyes, and backed up slowly while yelling "No ... no, no, no! You can't be alive still! Get away from me!" The mans wife was on the bed watching Van unsheathe his blade, and she screamed when Van grabbed the man by the collar of his shirt, and drove the blade into his chest, piercing his heart. Van grinned and said "I'm home ... dad." Van pulled the blade out, then drove it back in again, going through his father's right lung.

Van's father fell to the floor, slowly bleeding to death and choking on his own blood. Van then looked to his mother who had a broom in her hand, and said "Get away from ..." Before she could finish, Van threw his blade at her, and he went into her throat, dropping her to the floor. Van walked over to her body, and took the knife from her throat, then went back to the door and looked at the carnage. "Fools." He said while walking outside of the home once more.

Off in the distance, Van could see a large structure that looked like a portal, so out of curiosity, he ventured to the portal. When he reached it, he slowly walked inside of it, and was sent off into a world he had never seen before.

Vandraymen

Legend of Altera
Van Draymen warped through the portal and landed in a place he had never seen. The sky was all black, the ground he stood on was made of a stone he had never seen before, and large pillars made of a dark stone stood in front of him, lined with red stone lamps. As he walked down the path, he could see three more similar portals in front of him. He approached one of the portals, and engraved on the side of it was "Southern Wilds"

"Well ... I wonder what this could lead to." He thought to himself, and then jumped through the portal. When he reached the other side of the portal, he was greeted by a group of men, with a woman standing behind them smirking. The group all chanted "join us" slowly and kept creeping closer to Van Draymen. He swung his blade fiercely at the men, but it had no effect. He dropped to his knees, and then the woman slowly walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder

"We are the Collective ... We are of one mind. Join us, boy. Join us." Van looked up, and all the men and the woman were demonic looking, with nether like appearances. The woman squeezed Van's shoulder, and he tensed up, then blacked out.

--- A few hours later ---

Van Draymen had woken up on the ground, and felt different. He could hear the groups thoughts as if they were his own, but he still had his own thoughts as well. He sat up and his long hair fell to his face, and it had turned white. He held his hands to his face, and they were as pale as they were at birth. Almost pure white. He stood up and the woman said to him

"Welcome to the Collective, Van. I am Tchel, and I am your new leader."

Van hesitated for a moment and twitched, then said

"No one controls me!!" Van quickly drew his blade and slashed at Tchel, but she quickly dodged the blow, and then one of her men jumped down on top of Van and started to elbow him in the face. Van threw the man off, and held his head tightly, so the woman said "You are one with us now, Van. Do not fight it!" Her helper charged at Van again, crashing him through a portal that was behind them.

Van clutched the mans back hard as they went sailing down towards the ground. He flipped so the man was under him, and then they crashed into a large pool of water. Van went one direction, while the man went another, both landing on opposite sides of the water. When Van stood up, Tchel was standing in front of him laughing. Tchel said to him.

"You are a brother now, Van Draymen. Do not resist, or I will have to kill you."

Van spit blood onto the sand from a busted tooth, then said "You'll need your friends help, coward!"

Tchel quickly kicked Van in the stomach and said "His name is DeadPress, and you will refer to him as such!"

Van got back to his feet, and then he felt a sharp stabbing pain ripping through his left shoulder. He looked down at the spot where it hurt, and saw a large arrow that was sticking in his flesh. He grabbed the wound and seethed in pain, then looked up to see DeadPress readying another arrow. Before Van could move, another arrow flew into his right thigh, making Van stumble back into a hole. He laid in the sand as the blood soaked it. Dead and Tchel walked to him and stood over him, and right before Dead shot another arrow, Tchel stopped him and said

"No, not yet." After a few moments, Van stood to his feet, dizzy, but he had his hand close to his side, then said

"I never thought anyone could kill me ... I still don't think you can." He laughed and coughed up blood.

Dead pressed a sword against the back of Van's neck and said "You will get an honorble death for your braveness." Tchel nodded and said

"You could have been a brother. Any last words" She crossed her arms and sighed as Van said

"Yeah ... An honorable death to me ... is getting one last shot in." Van quickly turned around and threw his dagger into Dead's chest, knocking him back a bit and wounding him, but not enough for a killing blow, and then Tchel brought her sword down and decapitated Van Draymen, ending his life in an instant.
