HISTORY ||
Kida was born to two relatively young Makani parents, their first and only child after her Mother had some complications. She was raised with several others similar to her age, in a small clan of communal LeiMakani up in the canopies of Vana'itu. Her parents assisted a lot in several festivals, not just for decoration but for partaking in making music as well. When they were not doing that, her father would be off gathering and her mother would be making vibrant fabrics that she'd turn into clothing. Kida would alternate between joining either parent in these escapades, though it was not unheard of to visit her Aunts and Uncles as well who had far more children than her own parents had. She got along well with them, and she'd think some of them could even be her sisters and brothers for how similar they looked, but she hadn't questioned these things at her age then.
Kida learnt some basics of trade as a youngster, though it was greatly assisted by her Father. Berries he'd gathered to be exchanged for something of her choosing, in which she got herself a necklace. A bone 'cross' that she thought was pretty, and despite her Father not approving of the item itself, she keeps it to this day as a reminder of him and the time she'd got it.
Taught of Manna, and being at the top of the trees, Kida found a fascination with sunlight and became frightened when it was dark. She'd heard stories of demons that lurked in the dark, snatching small Makani like herself for dinner. While she was never snatched in the night for some demon's appetite, the moon itself later became purple and angry, and so she blamed the moon and the evils of the night for taking her from her home. She remembers the rumbling, the toppling of the giant trees they'd called home for so long.
Parting from her family is an unpleasant memory that continues to trouble her. In the mass chaos of a time still dark, their island split apart just as it split and separated families. She found herself clinging to branches with several of her cousins, and becoming ever distant with the bright banners and cries of her parents and aunts and uncles. When her world stopped spinning and fell quiet, they had landing upon the ocean. There were less cousins as if some had been lost on the way, and she could not see Vata'inu anymore.
