S. Cambridge - "You were one of the few I was able to call a friend, and I don't understand why our memories still come to me at times. I hope you've still looking down on my work today."

Biography:

Athos Colbas was born in the town of his ancestors, a small hamlet a few hundred miles from the first Port Silver, its a name now long forgotten. He had a brother, a sister, and his two parents. He grew quickly and would read and study in his home under the instruction of his mother. He quickly grew a liking for books, but when he reached adolescence, his father set him to work in the small village. He grew stronger as he worked, and his studies became neglected. At the age of 16, a trader passed through the town, telling stories of adventure and of cities far away. The village wasn't poor its size, but didn't have the money to buy the trader's finer wares. Most of the villagers bought tools for building and farming without much of a care for the tales of an outsider. Athos, however, was fascinated.

One night, when the trader was put down by a few too many drinks, Athos stole a fine steel sword, one of the few crimes he would commit in his life. After the trader left for another village, Athos slowly began practicing with this blade, but without proper teaching, it became clear he'd only ever be a novice at best. He yearned for something more than the life his town provided. Eventually when the trader returned to town, Athos approached him and begged to be taken to Port Silver, a city far away that he'd only heard of in stories. The trader accepted (for a small fee), ignorant, or perhaps indifferent, to the sword on Athos' belt. Leaving with out telling anyone but his younger brother, he traveled with the trader for many weeks, before arriving in Port Silver.

Two years went by, and Athos rationed his remaining money and worked odd jobs at the port. One fated day at the tavern, Athos met a man who invited him to join his small town as a guard. Accepting the man's offer, he moved into town hidden far to the north, in a land where it almost always snowed. For years, Athos trained in combat with the small sortie he'd come to command.

Eventually, however, he'd become disillusioned once more. By chance, he'd then meet a man preaching of a better, fairer way of life. "Justice is black and white," he said, and it'd become a mantra that'd shape the rest of Athos' life. He told of an organization and friends that would welcome Athos there. Athos up and left his second home that day, taking his sword and food. The organization welcomed him, and he fell into place there quickly. More years of vigorous training passed, and Athos was shaped and molded by the order that preached a simple, black and white view of justice in the world. Becoming the best with the longsword in the organization, he led in battles the organization partook in and climbed in the order. After all, it was just combat, why wouldn't it be? At the end of many quiet victories for the organization, its leader was killed. The organization fell into disarray, disbanded and abandoned its home. Athos, however, stayed. Through a curse or a blessing, time would pass, but Athos wouldn't age. He rotted in the organization's castle, a forgotten man in a forgotten place. To him, the time might've been but a year, to the rest of the world, millennia.

Athos survived the first exodus, the cataclysm. He, like everyone else, was forced to abandon his home. In a new world, he labored with a new purpose, to make a new home and order,. Labeled the grey knights, he rebuilt a castle in the image of his previous tomb. A self-proclaimed engineer, Seanathen Cambridge, joined Athos, and created a new home, the great fortress of Eisen and the village of Faust. The order lasted some time before those who joined along with Athos it had passed, leaving Athos alone once more, his effort failing after a mere generation. He, however, would preside over his third home as it persisted. Remaining his home for many Eventually, the fortress and town were found and sieged by the House of Lonmar. Finding himself with few options, he knelt to House Lonmar. This agreement proved beneficial for Athos, in a way. It led to an invitation to join the house from the King's Hand, and Athos would become a King's Guard due his skill with a sword. He was knighted and made lord of Eisenfaust by the king.

Athos' focus, however, was hardly with House Lonmar and the king. He focused on improving Eisenfaust, ignoring his duties abroad. As corruption spread about the world, he stayed at home, ready to protect it, unwilling to abandon his creation. In these times, the extensive library of Eisenfaust was his sole companion. He ignored the corruption as it tainted the world, far from the impact cities and populations. Some refugees found shelter in Eisenfaust, but few stayed long.

Years passed, and Athos stayed the same. Without the people to maintain it, Eisenfaust fell into decline. Athos had neither the funds, experience, nor desire to fix it. By the end of what should have been his natural life, he was alone in his fortress as it slowly crumbled in the frozen wild. It would not be long before Eisenfaust, much like Athos once again, was forgotten and lost to another exodus.

2012-2013

2018-?

"Now, Athos simply reclined by the fireplace of his inn room, as he ran an oily cloth along the blade of Winter's Steel. On its polished surface the pale man could see his reflection, illuminated by the nearby flames. Staring into the metal, he found himself thinking of the past—Eisenfaust, his old castle. The warring of ambitious kings, in the so-called "Game of Crowns"; the lost continent his ruined home sat on; the crossing to the new world. The memories are waning however, and what was once a cherished detail can hardly be remembered.

Many generations have passed since then... yet for most of this period Athos never aged, as if time had stood still. Though he does not know this, the old lord had been graced by ancient forces; he was made immortal, and witnessed empires and gods alike rise and fall. Others did as well, though they are few and far apart.

It was only until a few years ago, shortly before the Exodus, that he noted the first wrinkles appear on his face, the novel strand of grey hair. Whatever magic had kept him eternally young had finally ended, and the years began to take their toll."

- (GhostKairo)

His mind wasn't what it was, it'd been warped by thousands of years of quiet and effective solitude. His name felt foreign to him. If he hadn't found the remains of a tattered journal as he left that fortress, there'd be a chance it'd be lost to the wind, last spoken by gods-know-who. It remained hard for him to remember why he even left to begin with, in those days. What was thousands of years ago might as well have been a few days before on a bad day. On a good day, he simply knew it was long ago. As he searches now for a life long, long passed as again a mortal man, his the fog that clouds his memory has begun to slowly fade. Now, he begins to find his place in a new, strange world.
