Too many heroes (and more)

MRPolo13

The Arbiter of the Gods
Look at this that way:
Polo used to be a peasant. I'm perfectly serious, he was a simple miner, who wore nothing but rags. Now he is quite an influential lord. But did he really just wake up one day and went "I'ma be a ninja assassin lord from now on!"? No, he earned it. I actually RPed as a simple peasant for quite a long time. And guess what, it was all the same fun as it is playing as a noble man. Sure, I take things like honour or valour far more into consideration now, as in, my RP is obsessed with them, but in general, it was still very fun back then.

Also note that Polo doesn't have ANY special powers. He has paranoia about Lunar Eclipse (Black Moon), he doesn't know how to use magic. More, he actually hates magic. He is a good fighter but that's where his attributes end. Some of his fighting seems more like pub-brawling then a gentleman fight, but he really doesn't have nor want to have anything to do with magic.

Well, no matter what, people are going to want to be that guy, the hero, the one with all the chicks. Spice up RP a bit, That's the fun of it. And, not trying to sound rude, but couldn't NPC's be set up to run shops? Unfortunately, not many people want to start out that way, unless you force it upon them. It could be, that you start in Altera as a Farmer, etc. then after so much time, be able to choose what you are... But anyway... Yeah.

You don't think your character has heroic qualities then? To rise from such a lowly position isn't a grand feat?
You misunderstood me completely, I did not mean to say that people uniformly want to play some kind of ultra-empowering perfect character but that people want to play heroes. Characters that are mundane in origin and start out with nothing are perhaps even more heroic when they accomplish incredible feats.

In fact, your characters story is the essence of what I'm describing, since I'm seeing a few bits of your real self and your real aspirations in that character. Wish fulfillment.

And don't take this the wrong way, there's nothing wrong with that, it's a great yarn.

You misunderstand, it was not by my choice that I rose to become Highlord Vyre, in the event you are not aware of what a "Vyre" is, that would be the "Vampires" of Altera, so in any case, not very heroic. However, that is a small point, and beside mine.

My point is that I chose to be mundane, because it's ultimately the more entertaining path.

Though on another point besides that I intend to make, I find myself rising through the ranks of RP importance again. >_>

What about all us Girls playing hollowworld, you can't expect us to all be lesbians can you?
I don't mind

anyways on topic; Yes the idea of starting off as a peasant and becoming Lord Epic Awesomesauce later is a good way to do it, but the problem is new people tend to prefer the easy way and just create Lord Epic Awesomesauce out of thin air without effort.

So either make peasants more appealing to start off, or make it a rule to start off at a peasant

I think it should be a rule that you have to start off doing what your title says, and then after a month or two get to act freely. Ie. anyone who is a Hunter/Huntress would have to go kill animals, anyone who is a sailor would have to get a boat/ship/airship... somehow. And ect. ect. ect.

....That doesn't really help to the cause. So if I started off as Lord Epic Awesomesauce then I guess I'll do what Lord Epic Awesomesauce is suppose to do, be epic.

which doesn't really help with the idea of limiting Heros in this world

Things are the way they are, nothing is going to change because a group of people who think they know the best about RP come here and try to alter the way we have been doing things for ages.

I think I might like it here

It is heroic in the classical sense. The original definition of a hero is more or less simply a man who possesses martial excellence and courage. For an example, I point to the greatest hero of all time, Achilles.

Wikipedia said:
On the the eve of the big battle between the Greeks and the Trojans, Achilles sulks in his tent because the woman he thought he was owed as a prize has been taken from him. He finally decides to join the battle because pride won’t allow him to have his fellow soldiers earn all the battle glory for themselves. He fights savagely and single-handedly kills more Trojans than the rest of his troop. He shows no mercy to any of the enemy. When Priam, the king of the Trojans begs for the body of his son Hector, Achilles, in a deranged fit of excess, drags it around in the dirt behind a chariot and gives it over for burial only when he is moved by the old man’s tears

I agree with MACHY234, that everyone should roleplay as their title. However, how's this for an idea:
When you join the server, the only title you may use is "traveller". Then, you can earn other titles through achievements. For example, you get the cook title by cooking 100 meat, or the warrior title by slaying 100 monsters. This would create a way to discern between people who have actually earned the title of a super epic knight, and people who have just decided to become one, through no effort. It would also replicate the growing up of a character, and help to create a much more realistic experience in Hollowworld.

ye, it would be a lot of work. However, I'm only putting the idea out there. I, of course, will look around, but I'm no plugin maker
And how many ghosts do I have to kill to become one?!?
