Hi guys, you may have seen me going on and on about this thing called Age of Sigmar... or you may have heard the overflow of wargaminers moan about it. So, i made this handy guide to show you what has happened to Warhammer Fantasy Battles while you were away.
oh, before I forget, you will need one of these; you'll find them fitting..

First things first, you remember the world of Warhammer fantasy? You remember; Dwarves, elves, the empire and chaos... well, thats dead, chaos won, good guys lost. As in the planet sundered into oblivion and the souls of the living scattered throughout existence kind of dead. But before you ask me if the story ends in the second paragraph, it does not.

You see, Sigmar somehow survived like the badass that he is and hung onto the metallic core of the old world, all while the dark gods relished in their victory. This was until he was found by a celestial drake named Dracothion, who -to cut a long story short- became best pals with sigmar and showed him how to get around the eight realms. There is more to this but its not all that important.
Sigmar then did what any freshly revived god would do, and gathered all the souls that survived the sundering and gave them both a brand new city named Azyrheim (which is a orbital ring around the core of the old world) and new bodies.. needlessly to say he went on a crusade to explore the rest of the mortal realms, meet up with some buddies and beat up some chaos along the way.

Needless to say, many nations were forged, a great pantheon was formed and a new golden age reined that soon became known as the
Age of Myth. Gamesworkshop's not known to be subtle in their naming.

Now to explain the next part we have to talk about the mortal realms in a bit more detail.

There are nine realms to consider, each one made after one of the winds of magic in the old world, all of them are more states of being than actual planets. think of them more as a minecraft world, but as you venture out the soul energy used to solidify the raw magic into physical land takes shape, and depending on the type of soul used can make different terrains.

for example, a soul is particularly cold and withdrawn, it could form a cold region wherever that maybe. another could be flamboyant so the land if very whimsical; another could be one that is particularly cruel and might form a inhospitable landscape in whatever form that may take in that particular realm.. this means that the landscapes can be as fantastical or as mundane as you (or the author) wishes. like a massive Wyrm that it heats a floating country made of silver and makes a metallic waterfall to
just a forest.

The important part is that the realms are ever expansive, as in that it is impossible to map both in the respect that they are too large and constantly shifting, making it impossible for anyone but a god to rule one let alone multiple.
also the warp is considered a realm, but it seams to be a bit calmer now... don't ask.

And thus, we get to the Age Of Chaos!
This is where the Dark gods decide to get stuff done but there has been some changes since the sundering. Tzeentch, Khorne and Nurgle are all the same and was just chilling' for the past untold millennial, reminiscing on their victory. Slaanesh is... missing, no word on where he is but his power works and his mortals still get boons so it can't be all that
bad. The Horned Rat ( the god of the skaven) back stabs his way to take the place of Slaanesh; he is tolerated, nothing more.

So they discover that the eight realms are not just magical winds and attack, because it worked before why not now? so to cut a
very long story short, chaos kicked order's collective ass and forced Sigmar to seal the gates to the celestial realm in hopes of keeping the gods out, fallout style.

This works, and Sigmar spends the next few centuries having batman levels of brooding, regretting his disposition to abandon the realms... until an idea comes to him. (probably while listening to this.)
So the time line moves into the
Age of Sigmar, marked by the creation of the Stormcast Eternals (the gold guys on the left in that picture.) and embarking on a crusade to free the realms once more!. And this is where to story picks up.

Many things have happened since then, many victories had, many loses felt, gods have dies in the opening salvo of the Realm gate wars. But the good guys are still on the offensive, and even the chaos gods fear for their hold on the realms.

And thats the story, or at least a shortened version of it.
*wipes a sweat from his brow* This was a lot to break down and auto correct was not playing ball. But unfortunately we have to get the other side... the game.

But that is a story for another... *outro music*

always wanted to do that.
