Posters like these are put up on Storm's Landing

TO ALL AND SUNDRY

Let it be known that the Regent of the Asrakosian Dominion, Theodosius Hostilius Herennius challenges the knave known as Solomon Tekton to a duel for the following reasons:

1. Abandoning Lady Carling Montilyette during her pregnancy, providing her with no emotional, physical or monetary support whatsoever. The resulting stress that could otherwise be relieved by his support caused the miscarriage. Make no mistake, Solomon made no effort or signs of willingness to support his "lover."

2. Insulting Lady Carling, claiming that it was good that her child was a stillborn. The life of a child is most sacred, and for Solomon to insult a grieving mother and the loss of an infant is most heartless.

3. Dishonoring a noblewoman by treating her like a common harlot- using her as a source of pleasure and deceiving her under pretenses of love and affection.

Refuse this challenge, Solomon, and you will not only be known as a coward, but as an abusive womanizer to the public eye.

OOC Stuff:

Time- TBD

Intensity of Duel- TBD. Either to the death or till unable to stand, depending on what Bob_the_BuilderPet consents to.

Rules- TBD

Hey a historically accurate reason for a duel that often gets ignored because our modern sensibilities!
Really? I think this is pretty modern- considering most people treated women like crap back then anyways.

Uh no. Challenging a person to a duel over the "honor" or their female family member is pretty historically accurate. An action like this could render a woman unmarriable under hisotorical standards which would be a great offense and damage to a family.

If this was a noble commuting a crime against a lower class then yes it would be pretty unrealistic but between equals, especially nobility, acts like this would have been taken extremely seriously. Anything that interferes with a nobles ability to form alliances via marriage would be very akin to declaring war on that family by those responsible.

It's difficult to explain all the nuances of history so usually schools will paint with broad strokes of "man it sucked to be a woman back then due to X, Y and Z". However it doesn't paint a full picture, women may have been second class citizens for the most part but to say they had no influence or that their own families didn't care about them is woefully inaccurate and kind of stupid when thought about critically. Fully half the population of the human race is female, and they had a strong influence on history long before they gained the right to vote, even if most theses influences go unrecorded.

This is true. Even the Romans allowed women to own businesses and property. Hell, ancient Egyptian women were even allowed to have divorces

Anyways, still need a DM that is good at overseeing combat events.
