This is a story that has been known as the origin myth of the Dwarves. It takes place in the time from the creation of Zustid till the journey away from The Horgâr Halls. It elaborates on how the Dwarves of Altera came into being. The Dwarves in here are non-playable characters in the server, for they are from the first era and thus long dead (unless they are a zombie somehow :p ). Also, I want to pressure the fact that this is a story / legend / myth and that I'm not trying to write Lore. Enjoy reading.

Prequel: The Origin Myth of the Dwarves
Altera was very new and all the Gods had to create something to shape or decorate the world with. Korog, God of craftsmanship, came from under the bedrock and scraped a hole in the rock. In that space, he crafted Zustid from the rocks that he scraped away.

Zustid was made out of bedrock, the hardest stone in Altera. He was much taller than a Dwarf, but did not look exactly like one. Korog taught Zustid to talk in the language called Horgaahn and Korog told Zustid to make giant caverns to shape the world of Altera beneath the surface. Zustid felt thankful for being alive and devoted his life on making subterranean tunnels and caverns. He used his hands to dig the rocks away, for no stone was harder than him.

Decades passed and Zustid became so skilled in making caverns, that it was no longer a challenge to him. Now that he did not have to use his full attention on digging, he had room to listen to himself. The first thing that came to his mind was a strange feeling. He felt uncomfortable and for the first time in his life, he had moments that felt like he did not want to dig through the stone anymore. Zustid felt lonely, he needed a friend.

Zustid went to one of his caverns. It was a high but narrow one. This cavern was the deepest that he had ever dug and at the bottom of it was a pool of lava. He stood there, thinking, not knowing what the feeling was that came over him. He wasn’t used to doing nothing, so he began to climb up the narrow shaft, when he reached the top, he dug up further. He continued digging as long as he felt this awful feeling. Suddenly his hand grabbed air, there was no rock anymore. He retrieved his hand in surprise and was blinded by some sort of light. He climbed out of the hole and stood on top of the rock, in the air. He felt wind and heard thunder coming from the east.
IMG_0276.JPG
He looked around him into this strange new world with mountains, trees, clouds and grass. Things he did not know the names of. As he did this, he suddenly realized what he felt; he missed something. He went back to where he was made and met Korog there. Korog told him never to make a cavern that high, he told Zustid not to go into ‘the air’ again. Zustid then explained what he had experienced and Korog answered. “Build yourself a friend" He said in Horgaahn. "Use whatever you need and build a friend, but do never go into ‘the air’ again.” Zustid understood Korog and he went back to the cavern that reached up to the air and found that his pool of lava wasn’t there anymore. The rain from the skies that fell through his cavern had turned the lava to a dark-blue, almost black stone. The stone was wet by the rain that fell through the hole far above it. He had never felt this stone in his hands before and decided to make his friend with this new material. Babin was made.
IMG_0275.JPG

Zustid taught Babin to speak Horgaahn and the two got along really well. Zustid showed every single cavern and every single lava pool that he had shaped. Babin just watched and admired Zustid. Zustid and Babin talked to each other a lot and after a few decades, for the first time since they met, Babin taught Zustid something. Babin believed that the caverns looked bare and naked, so he took a piece of rock and chiseled it into a rectangle, using his hands. For no rock was harder than Babin, except for bedrock. For Babin was made out of obsidian. He chiseled some more rocks and laid them on top of each other. He created a brick wall and decorated the bare wall of the cavern with it. Zustid saw the elegance of this wall and helped Babin make many more walls. This was very time consuming, so Babin suggested making more friends. Zustid agreed and they both started to craft Dwarf-like beings from stone, called the Stenahárr. Of course, these stone beings were much smaller than them. They tried to create them with the same elegance as they have been creating the brick walls that would later serve as dungeons, hidden deep underneath the surface. These Stenahárr helped Zustid and Babin to use bricks to decorate the caverns. So the sole purpose of the first prototype Dwarf, made of stone, was to help achieve the goal set by Korog himself; to shape and decorate Altera.
IMG_0274.JPG

Korog saw what was happening and he acknowledged the skill with which Babin and Zustid had created the Stenahárr. Yet he did not feel they were perfect, more like prototypes. He then gifted Zustid and Babin by turning the Stenahárr into a type made of bones, flesh and blood. A horde called the Horgâr, the first real Dwarves of Altera. These Dwarves were equally loyal to Korog as to Zustid and Babin. Though they had minds of their own and soon they found out how to make fire with flints. With this fire they smelted iron and with this iron they could make tools. They used these tools and started building structures. Zustid and Babin had never seen such things and were intrigued to see how the Dwarves could be so resourceful. They saw how the Horgâr Dwarves built Temples for them and for Korog. These Dwarves showed Babin how to build structures, together they created The First Great Hall.
IMG_0273.JPG

Babin learned quick and made his own structures, mightier than those of the Horgâr. Babin used the resources that Zustid had found during the decades of digging. With the biggest of gems and the purest of ores, Babin constructed two thrones. One with a huge diamond for himself and one with an enormous emerald for Zustid, to sit on and rule the Horgâr Dwarves.
IMG_0270.JPG
The Horgâr Dwarves spoke to both Zustid and Babin in Horgaahn and Babin helped them to become wiser and wealthier, but Zustid did not. Zustid was old and did not understand this new kind of living. He saw the mission for which he had been created was done and retreated to a place close to The First Great Hall, where he lay and his eyes turned into solid bedrock. Babin and the Horgâr Dwarves made a tomb full of treasures around the place where Zustid laid.

Zustid's throne was empty, yet it remained an altar for the Dwarves to pray to Zustid. Babin helped the Dwarves to finish another set of Great Halls. Together, they were called the Horgâr Halls. Before it was finished, the Dwarves already made roads going away from the hall, to separate neighborhoods and forges. A ranking came into existence: Those that lived in the First Great Hall were more noble than those living in the neighborhoods further away from it. When the Horgâr Halls were finished, the first generation of Horgâr Dwarves had died already. Babin noticed his time had come, his mission for which he had been created was fulfilled. He, too, went where Zustid went and his eyes turned into solid obsidian.

After the death of Babin, the tomb of these Dwarven Divines was filled with the most beautiful gems a Dwarf had ever seen and then it was sealed with lava, so that no Dwarf could ever enter it again.
IMG_0271.JPG

The Horgâr Dwarves lived in The Horgâr Halls for a very long time and did a lot of mining and digging in the surrounding area. After Babin and Zustid had left them and with the beginning of a ranking system, a king came into being. He sat upon the throne of Zustid, while his queen sat upon that of Babin. The Dwarves prospered from what was given to them by their divines. Their halls became more and more full with gems and valuable objects.

One day, one of the Dwarves reached ‘the air’ again, during a special mining session. He told his brothers and sisters about his discovery. They went out and found other kinds of riches, like wood and wheat. Until the day they found ‘the air’, Korog had always supplied the Dwarves with food, but now they could find their food themselves and choose how many they would eat. Korog, Babin and Zustid were still worshipped, but the Dwarves did no longer need their help as much as they once did. They became further and further separated from their gods... They found humans and traded their gems and stones in return of materials like leather, wool, meat and lumber. They exchanged skills, like brewing drinks and forging.
IMG_0272.JPG

A few decades passed and the Dwarves met other beings, foul things. Through one of the caverns, a Greyling appeared. The Dwarves did not know the nature of this creature, until it killed one of the Dwarves. Never before had there been a killing and the Dwarves were shocked to see their brother's body lie lifeless, without cause of old-age. They were angry and in their rage, they followed the Greyling to its home. There the Horgâr Dwarves killed all Greylings they set their eyes upon. In a huge battle on Greyling ground, a bloodbath began. They ravaged through the Greyling village, taking all valuables they could find. The Dwarves spread through the Greyling tunnels until they came before a very special room. In front of it, an army of Greylings had amassed. They were protecting this room, for in it there lay a stone on an altar. The Horgâr Dwarves fought until the last Greyling lay dead on the stone. They understood how much this stone used to be worshiped by their dead enemy and decided to take the special stone as a prize for revenging their brother’s death.

They put this stone in the middle of one of the rooms adjacent to the hall. In a special stand, trimmed with a ribbon of precious gems. It was called ‘The Stolen Stone’. But this was no ordinary stone, no dwarf could have known, for this stone was filled with Magick. The dwarves had never seen Magick, thus did not know its consequences. Soon the Magick started to spread. Every Dwarf that would touch the stone would become corrupted; they changed their habits and started fights more easily than before. They became agitated and found the smallest things tedious. This corruption spread very quickly, for the Dwarves did not know where it came from.
IMG_0268.JPG

One day, the corruption within two of the Horgâr Dwarves got so large, that the first one killed the other. Never had a dwarf killed another dwarf. Now the dead dwarf laid there, silently on the floor. A strange noise came from the room where the stone was storaged. From this room a black cloud of thick smoke rushed into the hall and streamed into the body of the dead Dwarf. Suddenly he stood up again, grinning. The Dwarf had changed and was possessed by the demon from The Stolen Stone. He started to spread fire among the Halls of the Dwarves and soon the place was lit with the red tongues of heat. The Horgâr fled the main hall. Many were killed by magick flames that burnt on bare stones. They fled towards their homes and grabbed their tools and weapons to defend themselves. The dwarves were scattered and each family locked inside their rooms, while the fire clawed at the iron doors.
IMG_0267.JPG

In a desperate attempt to save their lives, the Dwarves simultaneously ran out of their homes and fled towards the only exit of The Horgâr Hall. There was only one way to get to the surface or neighbouring caverns. The militia Dwarves tried to hold back the demon to give the other Dwarves the time to flee. The last dwarves ran through this only exit and locked it with the help of dynamite. They exploded the entrance and it was shut by a devastating sound of falling rocks and boulders...
IMG_0266.JPG

They made a maze in front of the locked entrance so nobody would ever find it and awake the corruption again. From there they fled into different directions. Some clans went up to the surface, where they knew were no Greylings, while others remained within the ground and went into the caverns, hoping to find a new home. They forgot about the Halls and the tomb of Zustid and Babin. They fled to the Gemstone Isles and build a small base. There, they thought of what to do next and quickly left the base again to spread across Altera to build new places like Karuk-Thol, Thraall, Skara Brae and Tahkul-Rimtar.
IMG_0265.JPG

Nobody knows where the Horgâr Hall is hidden now. All we know is it must be full with the riches that the Dwarves have forsaken while they fled from the demon-fire. The tomb of Zustid and Babin must be somewhere still, sealed with lava, but filled with an amazing amount of big, shiny gems. The Riches of the Dwarves of Auld will forever be lost, but never forgotten...

IN GAME DESCRIPTION: This is why the Horgâr Hall has never been found, until the event 'Riches of Auld'. This event lead a host of men, along with many Dwarves, to the remnants of the base on the Gemstone Isles. There they found out the Horgâr Hall was located deep beneath Tahkul-Rimtar. They found the secret entrance and had to solve the maze. It took them days, solving each path step by step and noting it. They made their way through the blockade and into the hall. The body of the dwarf that was possessed by the demon had turned to dust of old age and the demon was back in his stone. The stone has been transported elsewhere and the halls are now again open to any Dwarf that wishes to gaze upon its wonders...

I just got Krummi back with an alt :) He never really died, he just left the known world to go elsewhere, far away from the magick he found in the pre-exodus world. Where did he go? To the same world we have gone now. So it's perfectly logical he's back :)

Oh and: Dwarves rule! Gur a Korog et eta sul, meir babins! :D
