Thou shalt bring persecution upon heresy, to preserve the Order of the world.

Introduction to the Legions

The Grande armées of L'Empire, fielded by faithful and strong-of-heart men and women are composed with a Légion system. The Légions are divided by Impérial regions, and federal/cultural authorities. Depending on which region a specific legion comes from, the appearance of the legionary’s equipment may vary, with some legions adding a specific decoration or ornament to the uniform. The legions are given a basic setting of equipment and decorum, and their appearance shalt be decided by them according to their positions and garrisons.

The Regional authorities may call upon their respective regional legions for aid in various situations. However, the Legates remain faithful to the supreme Impériale authority in important or risky decisions.

The Strategos

"Obediance of the law is demanded; not asked as a favor."
-General Brogan de Makorath

Fighting styles

Most Impérial soldiers are trained to fight with spears, polearms, large shields and all types of swords. Hammers and axes are seen in the army, but aren't actually manufactured for military purposes in Le Havre. Concerning armors, it is widely known that subtlety is not one of the Fédéral Empire’s main strengths, and it is obviously visible in the way soldiers act and dress. Most members of the Imperial and defense legions wield heavy, movement restricting armors, while the Foreign Legion goes for lighter armor types, to allow for lightning strikes. Veterans of the légions, rarely in the front lines, wear mostly golden, ceremonial armors, or medium weight equipment when events require it. Most of the Caesar's armies tend to be less apt at ambushes or guerilla tactics, a flaw that enemies could use. However, as perfect coordination and cohesion are upheld in the legions, the Empire has been known to be widely successful in open field battles, rarely losing terrain to foes. Honor and valor are also strongly believed in, which signifies that the faithful soldiers will /rarely/ use dishonorable tactics, such as backstabbing or dirty fighting.

Cavalerie d'Honneur
The esteemed Cavalry of l’Empire. Their battles are told to be decisive, heroic, and bloody. The Cavalry is esteemed in their knowledge of tactics and maneuvers, told to have been able to be across the battlefield in mere minutes. The cavalry normally consists of heavy armored horses made for short charges and crushing maneuvers. However, light cavalry of horses without armor and men with lances have been seen on the flanks of the large legions of infantry. The Cavalry was foretold to hold within them a strong morale and will, their formations made perfect for the destruction of enemy infantry. Even other cavalry have found their demise within the grasp of the Cavalerie d’Honneur. Their weaponry consists of, per horseman, (8)Pilum Javelines and (1) Lance. Their specifications:

Lance:
Total Length: 3.6m
Length (Socket): 3m
Length (Point): 60cm
Blade Width: 5.2cm
Diameter: 29mm
Weight: 2.4kg

Pilum Javeline:
Total length: 105 cm
Length (socket): 15.5 cm
Length (point): 6 cm
Weight: 1.12 kg
Spit thickness: 10.8 mm

The methods of warfare involve standard cavalry maneuvers, but also the Kreis. The Kreis was a method to where the cavalry would circle at a near part of the enemy unit. If the enemy unit held a steady wall of shield and spear, the Kreis would be used. During this method of the cavalry circling, they would throw weighted javelins against the fortified enemy unit, slowly removing their threat level and allowing an infantry regiment to move forwards.

The Wedge, this formation was incredibly useful for punching through enemy lines and causing complete chaos within the enemy army. It was also very useful in obliterating routing infantry.

The Wedge

Cavalerie Tortue, a formation where the cavalry units raise shields over their heads as a defense against any incoming arrows from the enemy. In this stance, they are able to hold off attackers from afar and continue to keep areas locked under their control as the archers waste arrows against this impenetrable defense.

The Hierarchia

The authority of a Legion is a simple one. Each Legion is overseen by a Legate, who holds ultimate authority over his men. Following him is the Centurion, who acts as the Legate’s hand and his second-in-command. The Legion is then composed by the few Cavaliers and the rest being the faithful Legionaries themselves.
(Once a Legion is set up, it is encouraged to start designing it’s own appearance while sticking to the model.)

Légion I (Behemoth Legion [Royal Arcturian Legion])
3482997.jpg

Uniform: The Behemoth Legion’s armour takes on a new style of armour that is focused towards heavy defense. Their uniform consists of a visored Barbuta helmet, pauldrons, breastplate, plackarts, faulds, poleyns, sabatons, greaves, rerebraces, vambraces, and gauntlets. Below this they wear a shirt of mail or a quilted gambeson depending on the soldiers preference.

The Legate, Centurion, and Nobles have the option to use their own personal armour due to their social standing. If however they choose to wear the Legion's armour it bears resemblance to the regular Legionnaire except the armour is made of higher quality steel and bears etchings of gold across the helm, spaulders, and breastplate. The Officers also have the option for their shields to bear their house's coat of arms.

Weapons: The Behemoth Legion’s weaponry for each soldier consists of a poleaxe (a weapon common throughout Lavoyarde), a large kite shield emblazoned with an image of the sun, at their side is a sheathed tapered longsword, and if the soldier so chooses a dagger.

Longsword Specifications:

Total length: 101.5 cm
Blade length: 85.5 cm
Grip length: 9.5 cm
Weight: 1.24 kg
Blade thickness (base): 4.2 mm
Blade thickness (CoP): 4.1 mm
Blade width (base): 5.0 cm
Blade width (CoP): 3.1 cm
Point of Balance (PoB): 11.5 cm
Center of Percussion (CoP): 31 cm

Standard: A Golden Sun with rays of light coming off of it.

Legate: Orvard Sif Sigurd
Centurion:
Comte Émeric

Cavaliers: Sankera Faladiir, Nathaniel Rivars
Legionaries: Drake Rock, Barthelemy du Lavoyarde

Légion II (Leviathan Legion [Foreign Affairs])

Uniform: A mix of steel plate and chainmail. The plate pieces include Sabatons, Greaves, Poleyn, Gauntlets, Vambraces, Couters, Breastplates, and Helms. A steel mask adorns the helms, as well, to provide further protection to the face, without lowering mobility of the head. The mask is that of a bearded man, glaring out at the field of combat, his moustache twirled into curls.

The Legate gains a differing set of armor; Pieces are added upon the normal structure of the basic Legionnaire, or are replaced for show. The Legate wears golden Breastplate, Pauldrons, Couters, and his mask is replaced. The new mask is fitted gold in the form of a great frown, brows furrowed, and beard forked upon the end.

Weapons: The Leviathan Legion carries with them both Poleaxe and Heater Shield. A longsword hangs from a belt around their waists, in the case of disarming. On the other side of the belt hangs a small warhammer.

Banner: A silver star upon four alternating corners of Black and Gold.

Structure:

Legate: Galdor d’Bregilian
Centurion:--

Cavaliers:--
Legionaries:--

Ziz is a bird from the jewish mythology. The bird represents "air", while Behemoth represents "earth" and Leviathan "water". It just seemed logical that if you have Behemoth and Leviathan, it would make sense to include the last one of the trio^^
