Lingering Musings of a Lover

You may ask what I have found in worshipping Her, or why.

In simple words, I don't feel the desire to crumble in the face of all the evil in the world, She provides all the guidance I need to see the good in everything as well. To cope in healthy manners, such as music and the arts, occasionally a bottle of wine, perhaps, and finally to connect with others to find change. Being a joyful person to your best extent and letting society’s detrimental grip fall behind, you can change many an aspect of your life without society and the world's burdens poking your neck daily. Nevertheless, romance is quite good as an epicenter for one's health, of course.

Wholeheartedly,
Florence Caron

I. Give not your worship to other deities, for you only need I.

This tenet, while being clear to most, holds obvious space to clear in the height of the world today.

In meditating on Her other tenets, following Her ideals/domains, specifically of passion as well as romance, She calls on her followers to singularly worship Her. To grow in passion in our worship alongside our other endeavors. Without accepting the other gods as beings to be worshiped like Her, worthy of devotion, our loyalty and dedication in Her are diminished. If you are not surrendering something in your worship and loyalty, your dedication can easily become exposed, for the good or ill. A large aspect of the divine is acknowledging the 'transaction of power' or rather the way our devotion powers our gods while they provide much for us- a foundation for our relationship with them, the core of religion. Sallana's emphasis on this unspoken tenet, for most, of the devotion to your god is one that might be overlooked, but certainly holds great weight in being a true follower.

She does not hold Herself higher than the other gods but simply means to restate Her will for us to follow Her with our whole heart, which other gods might not find much respect in. In being a holistic follower, Sallana can be seen as bridging a gap to other gods as she recognizes them. She wills us to see the differences in religion, engage in our differences- but not the other gods through worship. Instead, to choose Her with all our being and live out this vocation for the rest of our lives as Her children.

A large aspect of this tenet lies in respect. Something I think we all as beings can learn from. Respect of the gods, others, and our own, but most truly, each other. Without inherent respect- we are nothing but fools.

Beyond all of this, it is a call to worship. As to be explored later in the fourth tenet, Sallana encourages Her followers to worship in passion and grand action, using our talents blessed by Her to show adoration. This word choice of “worship” over respect further emphasizes Her followers' ability to respect other deities, meanwhile owing all our worship and ultimate adoration to the Mother Maiden.

II. Respect yourself and your body, be confident in your beauty.
Once more the words of respect and care are brought into the Mother Maiden’s tenets.

Most simply, we are called to treat our body with care and love, which is where it derails from the basic living respect we offer for each other. Examples would be nourishing yourself with food the best you can and generally becoming in tune with your own self. Interpersonal relationships offer many difficulties, but before we can go outside of ourselves to show respect, we learn it in how we treat ourselves mentally and physically- not by beating ourselves up over our mistakes, shortcomings, or physical appearance, but in embracing all of ourselves as we are in the moment and moving from there. Altogether, it certainly is a comforting tenet, a grounding concept that not only followers of Sallana, but nearly all those on these lands can find some reassurance in themselves and peace in.

This idea of what is acceptable and not acceptable as a form of respecting your body can appear very vague. In short, it truly varies with each person. We all have different needs, yet they are all valid in the eyes of Sallana as she recognizes the beauties in our differences and embraces them.

In becoming in tune with one's own physical needs: rest, hunger, thirst, pleasure, and more- We must know when to tap into these needs, and when we are overindulging to the point of hurting ourselves. For example, drinking ourselves to pass out multiple times a week to fill our need for "pleasure" or "relaxation" when you begin to clearly fall into an unhealthy routine of addiction and hurting your body as you are racked with the pains afterward. Seeing as that as an extreme case, or perhaps not so uncommon for some, another could be found in overeating. In my own family, I've seen the use of food to replace other needs; to help cope with other aspects of our wellbeing, where, out of respect for the body, you are disrespecting it by not properly tending to the need of perhaps, company or stress, where turning to family, friends or the gods will come as more fulfilling for the need.

III. Avoid needless bloodshed, but do not be restricted by it when in times of necessity.
Clear and to the absolute point, this tenet explicitly restricts from needless slaughter and bloodshed to rather defend the purity of blood and those that it flows through, no matter the name or face, but not to lose sight of the ways in which the power to hurt can counter evil and blows to joy.

Viewing this tenet from another view, we can recognize how bloodshed is certainly not the only aspect of revenge or righting wrongs. Perhaps this is simply a call for more creative means to take righteousness and the justice of joy and love into our own hands? I would like to entertain this idea myself. Nevertheless, as followers of Sallana, we surrender the desire to draw blood without necessity, leaving the barbarism to those with less patience and control.

IV. Give worship artistically, be it in song or poetry or paint.
The Mother Maiden Herself offers us creative and pleasurable ways to express our devotion, love, and gratitude for Her guidance in our lives.

This call to the arts encourages worshippers of her to extend ourselves into the most universal communication of art, music, and literature as it connects us further than we can reach. In learning and studying these skills, we establish ourselves as learners, ever seeking to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. To remain in our comfort zone proves contrary to everything Sallana calls her followers to; to live vibrantly, luxuriously, and like a bright flower to the world around us. To live with such life in your soul, and opening yourself up for others to bask in your light requires you to set out of your flower pot and soak in the sun wherever you go.

These forms of worship continue to set us out as worshippers of the Mother Maiden, unafraid to sing out and explore our praise so publicly, living without fear of society. By worshipping in such personal and often emotional ways, they are not limited to being public, but also so private and intimate between the Maiden Mother and her followers.

V. Let not mere societal norms hold you back from doing what pleases you.
This tenet encapsulates so much of what Sallana stands for, reinforcing this desire to seek pleasure in life, an ultimate and innate part of our instincts.

Sallana pleads us to make our own good from the seeds that the world leaves us. From there, we begin to cultivate the ground and pray for the fruitful harvest to come. We may not always find success, and there may be droughts, but there will always be people, places, and things to fertilize our lives and draw us closer to joy.

By not succumbing to the box of norms the world wishes to drop each one of us in, a cage where there is only so much joy to have, so hard to grasp, we live free and fully emerge ourselves into the world around us. To find pleasure and happiness, to choose it, similarly to not being held back by societal norms, is not a superficial, simple task. This is why we band together, build communities and relationships and work towards a joyous world together.

Sallana’s target to ‘you’ reminds us to never lose sight of ourselves. To forever serve and cater to others will never fully fulfill you, but leave you drained after extended periods of self-negligence. To find the balance in a life of serving others like the Maiden Mother herself, and caring for yourself in the same light is the ultimate destruction to the unbalanced life modeled in societal norms.

VI. Do not betray the love of the one you are bound to, remain faithful.

In both recognizing the many forms of love as they take shape, from the simple love that sparks from a child or baby animal to the love, adoration, and reverence of a god, Sallana addresses romantic love, the one that bonds you to your partner. In many beings’ lives, the ultimate form of fulfillment of self is found cradled in the arms of another.

To be blessed with the privilege of exploring every nook and mark of other’s body and soul, a bond that diverts from any other our heart truly holds. In finding that one, the bond is ever to be cared for, like those between yourself and the world around you. When trouble and hardship find your joy, in some attempt of theft, you must remain strong, clinging to each other and your virtues, not turning when the waves rattle your bones and flesh.

To come to terms with the ill procured bond of two lovers is not an easy task, but Sallana wills us to not simply wander apart but to end things in good air, rather than wander and break bonds of trust in growing unfaithful.

In remaining faithful, this requires the sole flow of love into one other being, not many, as in most cases, this welcomes harm and hardship to wiggle in and hurts those involved, intentionally or not.

VII. Take no shame in whom or what you love if no harm becomes of it, welcome it.
Love in all of its forms is pure and to be upheld to the highest blessing, but when or if that love brings harm to yourself, others, or the one you love, it is crucial to resolve the wounds and mend the destruction of love from the harm caused.

In welcoming yourself to love, you must open yourself to everyone, ready to love even those who you have yet to know. In finding yourself shameful of your love, it is best to get to the root of the issue, so that you might abolish the shame and refill that expression with glee for the greatness of love.
